I love the ideas presented but the background music is too heavy-handed and overpowers the narrative– it’s also depressive. The people who have chosen this life are upbeat about the INTANGIBLES offered by a nomadic life. I GET IT– the life most people are living is NOT what the human species chose–it is IMPOSED by social conditioning and "them"– and that IS depressing. Just some thoughts. My plan is to car camp on weekends until I get the hang of it and when my lease is up to go full time. I CAN’T WAIT! πŸ™‚

This documentary has been out there for a while. I’d love to hear about what has happened to these folks. Bob has a very active YouTube channel but not sure about the rest.

costs about nothing huh? looking at the pics of your rig lets start out at $40,000 for the truck , trailer , solar system , ect… im 55y/o and i have never herd a person with a vehicle [at least ] describe themselves as homeless. i am there at the worst times in people’s live’s, i pick up the deceased for a living. its amazing who is happy and who is not out there. most just want to pay their bills and have a few extra rewards along the way , but rich people come in 2 kinds.1] the sweetest , nicest , most generous people you have ever met 2] the most evil , kiniving , always figuring things out where they come out on top, kind of people. just learn to ignore the bad and notice the wonderful in the world .

Well………….I haven’t heard any one of you speak about "family". Sons, daughters, grandchildren. I find that very, very selfish. You aren’t concerned about anyone but yourself. If you aren’t on good terms with your family, it’s probably because of a selfish attitude……….

  12. Steve Kelley on October 12, 2022 at 6:34 am

My family and I lived this life style for some years. Now that the youngest is married and all. My wife and I are going back to living a happy life. It is true that you don’t really need lots of money or things. I will be seeing you soon. "On the road again just can’t wait to get back on the road again "lol

So much of these people’s lives are predicated on those who don’t live like them. It’s an interesting juxtaposition between them finding a way out of the rat race while also utilizing the perks of those rats still racing to live the way they do.

Loved Nomadland, by the way. I am something like what in the US is considered "adjunct professor", with a PhD and little job security. But my 200K house is 80%+ payed for. Paying my house was the only financially wise step I made in my life. Today, near 50, I would do more. Started a couple of years ago. Wish I started saving/investing 20 (or even 10) years ago. Oh, I pay US $140 / month to pay for whats left of my mortgage. I would be paying 700 /month had I not done antecipated payments during the last 20 years.

Technically, you are homeless. Who cares what others call you, just live your damn life. "I chose to live in an RV and now people think I am one of those people that are poor, boo whoo." Yuppies.

May God, or whatever spirit drives you bless you all in this video. Such warm hearted spirited people, so refreshing. It’s been a such a very long period of perpetual fear mongering, it’s exhausting! I regard these types of people as our World β€˜Spirit bank’, to remind us of our humanity, hopes and our innate ability to actually thrive collectively rather than just consume behind the barriers of our front doors.

  29. Trucker Daddy - AKA John in QuΓ©bec on October 12, 2022 at 6:48 am

Bob promotes homelessness. Houseless is ok for some people. Promoting homelessness is irresponsible.

  30. Dennis Andrews on October 12, 2022 at 6:48 am

The human race gave up on being nomads and vagabonds so that they could grow their food…..instead of chasing it’s food till the food source runs out….then they traveled to a new hunting ground. A person is homeless when their minds tell them what they cant be at home unless their home is a stationary living space.

  31. Roger Blackburn on October 12, 2022 at 6:49 am

One of the greatest times of my life was when I lost a farm job I had in Colorado and left with only $700 in my pocket and drove on Highway 50 all the way from Colorado, across Utah and Nevada, and on to the Redwood Forrest in Northern California, camping along the way. I then drove up the California Coast to Oregon and Washington State, all the way across Idaho and Montana, and eventually back to my home state of Alabama, covering over 5,000 miles. This was around year 2000 or so, and I remember being able to fill my Saturn SL2 up with only $14 in gas. I could go 500 miles in that Saturn on that $14. Man them was some good times and the good old days. Wish they were still here.

I had the idea that if my hubby died, I would buy an RV and travel the U.S. with my 4 kids. That was 30 years ago. My hubby is well and my kids are grown. We own land now β€”it needs a little home for my hubby and me β€”that’s next. I still think traveling with your home is freeing β€”and with your family it’s even better.

  35. Luis Cunha on October 12, 2022 at 6:58 am

First phrase: wrong. You should, at the very least, try to have a solid, even if small, house with electricity and sanitation in a small (cheap) village with a pharmacy, a supermarket and with at least a bus stop connecting to a place where you can have specialized health care. Then you can go "mobile" but have a home to return to. Better even, you have a spare house that you can rent, and/or some savings in the bank that cover your living essentials for as long as possible. Otherwise, if you intend to be "free" for a considerable time, you will try to do so by cheating, and you will rapidly face the wall of reality. Like it or not, the majority was convinced (forced?) to live on a capitalist society. If you don’t play by the rules of this game, you will ultimately be screwed. Learned that near my 50’s, trying to reach freedom by 60. Hard and risky: I wish I knew the rules earlier.

  36. Chris White on October 12, 2022 at 7:02 am

God used this to change my life. Breaking through the tree top canopy of fear like in The Lord of The Rings. "I don’t need all this stuff" – Madame Blueberry. Veggie Tales. God sending me sumbliminal messages on the Best way to live – His WAY! Then I can have enough to give like I’ve always wanted. So I’m gonna fix up this pop up camper and go from PA to MI for a Power & Love conference and then off to Bible school at Charis Bible College to be free and empowered to answer the call of God on my life to spread His Glory all across the earth, without bowing to the fear of man as represented by the Devils system of bondage, or the system of the church (those who have a form of godliness but deny the power) and their legalism. It’s the yeast of the Kingdom of God and the power that Jesus walked in of THE BLESSING/Annointing and the preaching of the kingdom to restore the Garden of Eden that Adam threw away. (thanks a lot bro! L.O.L.) best 50 minutes of my life. really 2 hours though as I kept pausing to reflect or look things up online as I was inspired and intrigued by all of your stories! 31 still living at home, bout to break out and not care what the HELL my parents think. trapped in their worldly thinking had me stuck here. But by renewing my mind to the Word of God, I have forgiven them, love them, and will leave in peace. my main goal/concern with how I would leave. They don’t know the POWER of God that He wishes to express THROUGH them. oh, but they will. πŸ˜‰ NOTHING is impossible for God! They will not stop me from advancing the Gospel of Jesus which is right in front of us but we are sooooo blind to see. Good thing the King is so patient!

  37. Evelyn Wilson on October 12, 2022 at 7:03 am

While I agree with them (and envy them) that they have chosen a very mentally healthy way to live, there are some things this documentary isn’t addressing. A)it’s subsistence, so it’s hard work, doing the simplest things becomes very difficult and B) it takes a source of income in the first place – it takes money to buy and/or convert a vechile, money to buy food and petrol. We can’t all make money designing the odd website. C) Here in the UK, and I’m sure in a lot of US states, you will get moved on, because one person camping is fine but when another ten turn up it’s a problem for everyone else in the area, rich or poor. Without a complete overhaul of our societies it’s only something a lucky minority can do, otherwise we have no hospitals, roads, schools, welfare systems.

After we watch how Twinkies are made (with Buffalo Bob of the Howdy Doody Show of the early 50s), the guy credits the Industrial Revolution with making it possible for "creativity to bloom," "the fruits of the Industrial Revolution ought to be liberty:… well… what about the rest of us who are slaving in the cellars of the Industrial Revolution to produce all those labor-saving gadgets so the fortunate few can enjoy their freedoms??? Thoreau had his sister bring him his meals, there in his cabin on Walden Pond. She also paid the fine when he refused to vote. There’s your freedom, I guess….

The amazing amount of negative comments on this inspirational video really shows you how sad people are. Desperate to find negatives. In their own misery, trying to pull others down with them. In love with following their political leaders, celebrities, and sick society. Well, they can go live their pathetic lives. Kudos to those who make their own rules and don’t conform!

  46. James DH on October 12, 2022 at 7:11 am

The music in this makes it seem such a tragic and desperate thing. These folks have found a life of joy and freedom, it should be nothing but good vibe, Grateful Dead rockin grooves!

  47. Luis Cunha on October 12, 2022 at 7:12 am

I am just watching this on a refurbished laptop (Yoga X380) I bought for 300 bucks (in 2022, the PC is from 2018, I think). The machine was in mint condition, backlit keyboard, IPS FHD touch display with included pen. Can only have these because folks working in corporations move to newer machines every 2 years or less. Capitalism is bad. But you have to take advantage of the good parts. And, unfortunately, all other social / economic doctrines have produced worse societies.

  48. Nature Of The Beast on October 12, 2022 at 7:13 am

Perhaps you could upload the video again without the music? I want to watch it but without the music. THanks.

  49. The Journal Nook β˜•οΈ on October 12, 2022 at 7:13 am

Can’t believe the amount of people complaining about the music in this documentary. I barely noticed the music I was too focussed on listening to them and their experiences for my own research into vanlife 😁😁😁

  50. Luis Cunha on October 12, 2022 at 7:16 am

The good life for pennies only exists because some folks keep pushing products that beat the existing ones. Morally, you only have the right to live from what society gives you if you have, at some point at least, made your own contribution to society. Who do you think created "the electronic age", or provides YouTube and Google?
