Great info. Have a fun and safe camping trip!! Look forward to seeing videos when you return.
I can’t argue your choices. I take a 10" DO, 10" griddle, #5 skillet and a 10" deep skillet. But then, I’m also camping out of a vehicle. If I had to limit myself to one item, it would be the 10" deep skillet (chicken fryer) with a lid.
Nothing but the essentials, that’s how we roll! 🙂
You guys have a safe trip and looking forward to seeing where you’re going.
Great Smokey mountains! Heaven on earth. I am so blessed to live in NC and only 3 1/2 hours away from them. My daughter went to a college in the heart of the Great Smokey mountains , when she graduated we had a hard time getting her to come home. Hope you have a great trip.
👍🏼 #7…. Packed tight and light…. can’t wait to see your choices to cook out there….. Now that’s it’s cooling off a bit i’m lookn forward to do a catch and cook on the bank of my lake with my cast iron skillet and either coals or a camp fire….. gonna be my 1st….
It will be everything you need because if you don’t have it you don’t need it. BTW when trying to determine the date of a gate marked pan with legs, D shaped are oldest, then triangular, round are latest. Rule of thumb no guarantees with gate marked pans. Have a fun trip.
Looking forward to seeing the camp cooking videos.

Can’t wait!
you should consider buying a DO as opposed to the CO you show. Advantages are that they are 10 1/4 inches across (standard number 8) with a lid. Bought separately lids costs as much as pans bought individually. about 35 bucks. Then the lid will fit any number 8 pan lodge makes. I would take a number 8 Deep skillet that the label the chicken frier (CF) . It essentially a Dutch oven with a handle. The addition of the handle adds convenience handling. I have several deep skillets from early lodge , birmingham stove and range, Favorite , Wagner Ware , Griswold, and Modern Lodge.. The modern version is the one I would consider taking outdoors on a camping trip.
That little four in one is great for setting your lid down on to. Keeps the underside from getting dirt or ash on it.
Love Cast iron …but since we live fulltime on the road in a 24 foot travel trailer we can’t deal with too much weight ..so we went with a lodge 5-quart dutch oven with a lid that works as a shallow fry pan…..works great for us…

Great stuff!
Thanks for this. It looks like you have a minimalist approach to packing, which I can definitely appreciate after a couple of decades of camping vacations. I’ll take a wild guess that your first step was to consider what you want to eat on this trip – even before taking the weather into account. I am filled with envy over the 18th century skillet! Very cool.
FYI, the full review of the Lodge Cook-it-All was entertaining. I am sorry this item has been a disappointment for you but it is a public service to give the unsuspecting public an honest review.
Happy trails 👍

How do you pack all that weight?
Have a great time. This time of year is great weather (except for hurricanes).
Great video! We have been camp cooking for a long time and since usually with the whole family or Trail Life Troop I usually have a 12in 8qt camp oven, 8in Dutch oven and 12in skillet with a combination of fire tripod, charcoal and Camp Chef 3 burner giant stove with griddle. However as my kiddos are getting older I’m planning several trips with only one at a time in my Subaru Outback so I am rethinking what cast iron I can take as space and weight are an issue (not enough that I won’t have some cast with me). I love the idea of the 10” CO & 10” skillet combo. Just curious as I see the 3 quart combo cooker on the table in the background how that would compare to what you choose to take. I’m going to invest in something to “downsize” for these trips and wondered your thoughts on the combo vs CO/skillet.
Also thanks for you series on the “all in one”…it saved me the $ as I was on the fence and your series guided me to stick to the traditional products!
You picked the right items to take camping with you for cooking your food on and I have all of what I need to camp out myself and will use it soon in the park campout.
I needed this tip last week 😀
Too much weight to carry around for camping
You have the greatest BBQ Channel and love you Cast Iron Cooking. Best wishes and greetings from Germany. You said, you have also Family here in Germany?
Less can sometimes be best. I always liked having 2 DO’s but then I was cooking for more than 2 people back then. Thanks for the video😉👍
