00:00 Introduction

Like one’s clothing choices, interior design can be intensely personal. However, unlike clothing which of course, you can change every day, interior design is a bit more permanent. Classic interior design can actually mean a wide variety of things ranging from more traditional styles
like English country home to more modern aesthetics like Bauhaus and mid-century modern. In fact, these days, you don’t even have to commit to appointing your space in just one style. Raphael and Teresa’s interior design for example leans heavily toward traditional aesthetics as you’re seeing here but even they don’t stick to just one school of design. You can experiment with multiple styles at the same time to find a blend that’s unique to you. If you look at modern home retailers, furniture companies, and design firms, it’s clear that traditional design is not the most popular style today.

Traditional design as it’s used today is most chiefly inspired by 18th and 19th century European home decor. This style was formal and sumptuous embracing color, pattern, curved lines, and details aplenty. In other words, it’s really the opposite of minimalist style and it’s often described by adherence as being elegant.

There are many classics out there, of course, but we think that this curated list of 11 choices will suit gentlemen who, like us, don’t want to be in a space that will seem hopelessly dated in 10 years’ time. Colors, patterns, finishes, and even the size of different furniture pieces can wax and wane over time but we think that this particular list of classics will never go out of style.

My style runs to the 1920’s. A revival of traditional decor was popular during that decade, and the furnishings were easily found and not outrages in cost. I live in a 1919 home, with much natural woodwork and original lighting fixtures. My home has the built-in book cases, as well as a built-in buffet in the dining room. On the painting area, I love seascapes and marine [ship] portraits. All my furnishings are contemporary to my home. Being a grand piano is a space gobbler, I have a vintage player upright, paper rolls and I make the music. No "stuffed" creatures or plants are present!

A nice grandfather clock is a good piece of home decor.

Great job preston..(you got that hugh heff look which is super cool)

  15. Mick Ho on July 21, 2021 at 9:01 pm

For these items not to look dated, their surroundings must be considered. Because many are period, you’d need large spaces and high ceilings for them to look right – not to mention a complementary architectural style. My old flat was built in 1900 and had high ceilings, so I could get away with Georgian furniture. Now in a 1960s box, so the Georgian stuff had to be replaced with mid-century modern (not my favourite style, but it avoided the I-want-a-period-townhouse-but-can’t-afford-it look).
And no English gentleman would curate bookshelves – they’re for books. Nor would they have false plants.

  16. Joshua Steele on July 21, 2021 at 9:02 pm

Always liked the look of a Chesterfield style of furniture, but never knew the name of it.
    Thanks for that!

  17. Chadwick Davis on July 21, 2021 at 9:02 pm

Would love to know where you acquired your smoking jacket

  18. Sasher Robinson on July 21, 2021 at 9:03 pm

I love this. It’s helped me with ideas fir my living space. I hate my white minimalist space now. I want opulence. Gold and rich colours

  19. Lasse Manninen on July 21, 2021 at 9:05 pm

Why monkey appear on top of artwork? Nippels are natural part of tittys.

  20. Lazarus J Taxen on July 21, 2021 at 9:05 pm

I’m really enjoying this chanel cheers gentlemen!

  21. stayjit1 on July 21, 2021 at 9:06 pm

I would agree with your suggestions, but you miss the obvious. A gentleman should aquire the Elvis on Black Velvet. It makes a statement. It always sets the mood. It gets no end of envious glances, and is the perfect conversation starter. I suggest the white jump-suited Hawaii Elvis, it goes with any decor and colour scheme.

  22. Ryan Gatien on July 21, 2021 at 9:08 pm

I like the hugh Hefner look

  23. ivorytower99 on July 21, 2021 at 9:10 pm

Poorly done video. Why do I have to look at the narrator throughout 90% of the video? I thought this was about interiors; not some guy pushing his channel.

  24. Matthias Breuer on July 21, 2021 at 9:12 pm

This video is the answer to the question: "Now that I’m finished putting together my personal cosplay, how do I dress up my house?"

  25. What duh?? on July 21, 2021 at 9:12 pm

Bruh here I am working 2 jobs just to pay my rent. How am I gonna get a grand piano up 3 flights of stairs?

  26. Jeff F on July 21, 2021 at 9:14 pm

    Mr Roboto

  27. cdd1craig on July 21, 2021 at 9:19 pm

Modernity has its functions, are you really willing to sacrifice practicality and comfort to show off wealth. That is all this really is

  28. S A on July 21, 2021 at 9:21 pm

Grand Piano is really only good if you have lots of space. Having a good quality modern digital in rosewood looks modern but still in keeping with the style. If you play they can be much better than an equivalent acoustic, but also it sets a tone that is space efficient and isn’t pretentious.

  29. Meri Kvant on July 21, 2021 at 9:23 pm

    Beautiful!🤩 Love you guys!❤

  30. chikitabowow on July 21, 2021 at 9:24 pm

I absolutely love this video, is there a possibility for
Gentleman’s Gazette to make a playlist with interior design videos? However if you already have such a playlist i do apologize as i couldn’t find it anywhere.

  31. TrangDB9 on July 21, 2021 at 9:25 pm

    That minimalist style is depressing.

  32. Mike Miller on July 21, 2021 at 9:26 pm

I loveee my pool table. It looks nothing like the majestic one they first showed but I enjoy it and so do my guests 😊

  33. Cooper Wesley on July 21, 2021 at 9:29 pm

I’ve owned several wingback chairs over the past four decades, and I have always found them to be lacking in comfort. I now use the much more comfortable club chair option. Mine are covered in elephant grey leather, and my guests seem to gravitate to the them much more quickly than they did to the wingbacks.

  34. Yeet Canyon on July 21, 2021 at 9:29 pm

The Sims 3-4 have trained me for this

  35. Tony Minehan on July 21, 2021 at 9:30 pm

I purchased new, a 4 piece centerfield in red for my morning room and 5 piece for my drawing room some 30 + years ago, money well spent.

  36. N Z on July 21, 2021 at 9:33 pm

The problem is…most of us don’t live in Downton Abbey….

  37. Claude on July 21, 2021 at 9:33 pm

    Interior design tip #1: Bookcases.
    Lots of bookcases.
Bookcases that can hold other design touches are nice, but not necessary.
A tasteful entertainment console is also a nice touch, but it needs a place to keep your books.
Decorating with a few tasteful parlor instruments is delightful. You can play music when not reading your books. One bookcase should have a place to hold instruments and a music stand.
A sofa should have flat surfaces on the arms for holding your current book. It should also have end tables with a reading lamp and shelving for a few choice books.
Ideally, the shelves of your bookcases should be filled with a current selection of reading material. The first rule of decorating with bookcases is to have easy access to your reference and casual reading selection.
Large pianos and pool tables look like fun, but there’s a reason why people are trying to get rid of them. Use the space for more bookcases.
Don’t forget to get plenty of bookcases. You can never have too many.

  38. K S on July 21, 2021 at 9:34 pm

What you have shown i have them all. Plus 2 wardrobes that i just dont have space where to put them. So i was thinking to put them on the back wall set apart by the fireplace( fireplace in the middle). They tend to look vintage as they’re called rose mist. So i am confused what colour should be the paint on the walls if sofas are brown and wardrobes ivory.

  39. GT Town on July 21, 2021 at 9:35 pm

    🙈🙈🙈😂😂😂

  40. El Love on July 21, 2021 at 9:38 pm

  41. Frances Fuego on July 21, 2021 at 9:39 pm

as a nerd after finding out that theres 4 foot gunpla i would never buy any taxidermy.

  42. Crux's Landfill on July 21, 2021 at 9:39 pm

You can’t find a new Persian rug. America has trade embargoes with Iran that have been in place since 1984. You can find a vintage one, sure, but it will probably be worn out, faded, or uneven in its pattern.

  43. Mike Miller on July 21, 2021 at 9:42 pm

I’ve been looking for that exact wingback chair for a bit now.. cannot find one that looks like that anywhere. I desperately need for my sitting room I have beautiful brown leather furniture in other living room. If anyone has a link or info on where to find that chair ugh.

  44. C Labrot on July 21, 2021 at 9:44 pm

I agree wholeheartedly that drapery should be "sweeping, bold, and elegant" but the drapery you displayed is simply neither of those things. If I may provide some suggestions…

For a sweeping, lush look drapery panels should be wider than the width of the window they’re meant to cover, as this allows for more and deeper pleating in the fabric when drapes are pushed to one or both sides. Additionally, hanging the drapery on a drapery rod with finials provides a more traditional look. Further, the panels should be hung with drapery hooks or have hidden tabs, as opposed to rings or have grommets.

Another option, albeit more expensive, would be a relaxed roman shade. I think these look quite smart and elegant in spaces where there is original woodwork involved, like in the video. When set inside the window frame, as opposed to over top, they highlight the architecture of a room, and the soft folds of the fabric (hence why they’re called "relaxed") provide an effortless elegance.

Love your videos gentlemen — keep up the great work!

  45. Renato Queiroz Filho on July 21, 2021 at 9:44 pm

    This is exactly my style!

  46. Begajah Geneng on July 21, 2021 at 9:45 pm
