But, there’s more to restaurants than providing delicious food and impeccable service. Menu engineers and consultants put careful thought into the way you choose what you eat.

When it comes to the restaurant industry, everything is carefully selected. From the type of music playing in the background, to the lighting. Restaurants consider scanpaths and carefully place their anchor item accordingly. They often highlight things like high-profit items or more expensive items to draw your eyes to them.

Just like any other business, restaurants are always trying to sell you more. This means using the same kind of trickery other businesses engage in. This video explores some of the most commonly employed tricks of the trade.

Listen diners here’s the basics see maehy exwife Samantha was living in Europe for a few years to bolster her allowance Samantha took on work as a Pastry Chef winning in the German National baking comp see Samantha said "Weave taught all our Chef’s how to serve up cous cous with just the right petulant sneer the diner’s all think to complain is to be a clown with a pie and a beer" also for Samantha being a Pastry Chef that’s sugar central a 1kg bag of sugar here in Australia where we grow sugar cane commercially is $1 and 2tbl spn amounts turn around $1 worth of food into a $35-$45 out of pocket cost you know it cooking oil also it’s lipases fats it metabolizes into sugar your hypothalamus the gland your endocrine system runs on regulates sugar $100 says most people unless they’re even morbidly obese don’t use lots of sugar/oil at home, see there’s a basic formula with restaurants go there mid-afternoon for initial appraisal you’ll probably get a large serving if you’re on your own if you can’t get through much it’s saturated with oil/sugar normally maybe ask who takes order and delivers plates which is the biggest plate of the most food for the least money yes food is about NUTRITION and what about the families take the Children mid-afternoon they’re probably NORMALLY ASLEEP at around 7:30-8:30PM if not you know they’ll complain incessantly.

First they have to sucker me to come in the door except I realize that the real money in the restaurant business is the real estate they own and I’m not really into buying someone else’s real estate for them. It’s cheaper to eat at home anyway and I can eat much healthier at home while also avoiding the crowd of zombies ready to consume their life away by being consumers.

Another trick from restaurants that I’ve discovered is that they tend to add the tax with the total when it comes to tipping & putting those suggestive tips on the receipt. Normally, I’d tip without the tax included.

These techniques won’t work on me. I’m poor so even if I would want to spend and eat more my wallet won’t allow me. Haha I usually just say: I’ll try it next time. But I will never go back to that place again! Haha

I don’t drink alcohol, coffee or soda, I always ask for water with my meals🍛. It’s amazing the look on the waiter face. It’s never a problem when I’m eating alone. However, if I’m eating with someone else, they assume I can barely afford my meal & offer to pay for my drink🍸. I tell them, I appreciate the offer, but I only drink water with my meals, which is the honest truth.

    Unless you don’t drink.

Great Video, However the most money profit they make is usually on Drinks and deserts. Also, with seeing deserts on a slow spinning rack as you walk in is a big trick also. It stays in your mind from the moment you see it. I was also told that when a restaurant has a Daily Special on the Menu,, or up on a sign,, means that they have just checked the freezer, and realized that something was just about to go bad soon, so they put it on as a Special of the day, with the hope of it selling. There are tricks of any trade everywhere, Thanks for the Video!

None of these tricks worked on me.

    Only because:
I know what I want and I know what I don’t want. And so names & prices have no influence on me.

I make the choice of what I want to eat & drink. The name does not make the choice for me!
