$200 Budget IKEA Office Chairs Comparison – MARKUS, JÄRVFJÄLLET, HATTEFJÄLL

I’ve been testing some of newest ergonomic IKEA office chairs for about a year now. Here’s a quick comparison between the Jarvfjallet, the Hattefjall and the ever popular IKEA Markus chair.

  7. alex zander on August 30, 2021 at 10:24 pm

I’m 6’0.5 what would be the better purchase for someone on the tall side the JÄRVFJÄLLET or Markus

  10. Lemonzify on August 30, 2021 at 10:28 pm

Are these better than secret labs titan?

  11. DiscoGym on August 30, 2021 at 10:29 pm

I wouldn’t call Markus a "budget chair", at all. It has strict regulations of quality, tests, ergonomics etc. It has 10 years of warantee and cost €200 euros. I would rather call it very affordable – you get a lot for that money. IKEA have several dramatically lower priced products that are actually better than other brands. – Beds for example, best in test.

no offense, but your swedish pronunciation could use some work.. 😀 I kept wondering what "jarfillet" was! Umlaut-A is an E! Jer-fjellet!

Nice review, thanks so much for your experience

  14. n3wh0p3 on August 30, 2021 at 10:36 pm

Im on the heavier side, 185cm, will the jarvfjallet be a good choice?

  16. caliburstorm gaming on August 30, 2021 at 10:37 pm

  17. Ricardo Mokveld on August 30, 2021 at 10:38 pm

I just wish Markus was there without arm rests

  18. Hexapoda on August 30, 2021 at 10:39 pm

Can you do a "Totaly how to not sit" in those chairs? I have a DXRacer that I want to replace and sometime I pull my legs in it just to change position, other times I lean back with my arms behind my neck, or I just let one leg hang over the side; and then it is a DXRacer I can flip it far back so I almost can rest in it. So how far can you push the relaxed sitting in those chairs.
One reason I want to change is that the DXRacer looks like a monolith in my apartment.

    Is the skruvsta good?

  20. Jesse Sidhu on August 30, 2021 at 10:44 pm

damn, I just learned something new about my chair I didn’t even know (the locking of the recline). Thanks dude!

  21. bubblelin on August 30, 2021 at 10:45 pm

I found Markus lumbar is much more comfortable and softer than JArv. But I hated how hard it is to recline. It require so much strength to push it back, then I have to lean forward to access to the lock so it basically doesn’t work.

So for the Jarv I like how I can effortlessly lean back a bit but not too much while have the chair tucked in to allow my body close to the table. But I don’t feel much of the lumbar support and it’s hard I would put a think cushion inbetween. The Hat chair more comfortable than I expected, looks good only thing is missing a head support which I wanted other wise it felt quite supported to have back to back to the chair while tuck close to the table.

Buuut IKEA lack of stock for god knows how long I don’t know when I’ll be able to get the Jarv chair

Lower density foams = death of your butt and sitting on concrete after a year of usage. High density foam all the way everyday

  23. F4c2a on August 30, 2021 at 10:48 pm

Markus is nice, but Järvfjället is reeaally good and supports your back amazingly. And the spring is more effective.

  24. Mikage Aya on August 30, 2021 at 10:48 pm

Thanks to these comments below, I finally bought Markus and i seriously loved it. Jarv is almost twice the price so the choice is pretty simple.

  25. Konstantin Kožuchov on August 30, 2021 at 10:48 pm

    You have just saved me!

  26. Komik Videolar on August 30, 2021 at 10:48 pm

my height is 160 cm. my weight is 55. I tried markus and jarvfjallet. Markus came too big. jarvfjallet was relaxed, but it was very moving. Which one should I take?

  27. Jonathan Vasquez on August 30, 2021 at 10:49 pm

how do i lean back on my järvfjället? its stiffffff

  28. Mr roy on August 30, 2021 at 10:49 pm

    how is 200 bucks "budget"

  29. Auri Compositions on August 30, 2021 at 10:49 pm

Brand new Markus squeaks when spinning and leaning side to side, have lubed just about everything i can think of.

  30. Akshad Ghone on August 30, 2021 at 10:50 pm

sounds like a disabled person named these chairs?
    true no?

  31. Hayabusa09 on August 30, 2021 at 10:51 pm

    back of your knee?

  32. Giannis Antetokounmpo on August 30, 2021 at 10:52 pm

$200 is not exactly BUDGET for people like students, you can get some decent ergonomic chair for less than $100

  33. Manuel Avendano on August 30, 2021 at 10:52 pm

    Hi!
After some time what’s your take on the chair (JÄRVFJÄLLET)?
Also, if you don’t mind, how tall are you? I’m 1.75m (with proportional lower and upper body) and found Ikea Markus lumbar support terrible; non-adjustable hard foam. I’m considering buying this model instead.
I can’t know how it would fit me (in my country, Ikea has this model available only for online orders), so my only option is to hear peoples experiences…
Btw, I’m a programmer, so I need the chair to be comfortable (especially for my neck and back) for loooong hours (4-18hrs a day)
    Have a good one!

  34. Petra A. on August 30, 2021 at 10:53 pm

Verzeih , aber diese ganze Scheisse kommt aus China. Lieber hol ich mir einen Stuhl ( auch defekt ) vom Flohmarkt und repariere ihn . Aber nie wieder aus China. Denkt nach , denkt nach…

  35. Alex on August 30, 2021 at 10:53 pm

The best way to determine which one you like best is to try them in store. For me, I found the hattefjall most comfortable and ended up buying it. The adjustable seat and the height adjustable back is what makes this perfect for me. The harder seat cushion feels like it provides me more support yet is not uncomfortable. The auto-adjustable design sets the right amount of resistance (for me). Also, it looks and feels the most well made.

  36. MrDjCombs on August 30, 2021 at 10:53 pm

Thank you so much for this video! I was on a tight budget but I needed a decent chair and after watching your video comparison, I decided to buy the IKEA Markus chair. It is an amazing chair for the price and I’m loving it!

  37. Andrew Dotson on August 30, 2021 at 10:54 pm

I think the Markus sucks, the padding will wear down and start to cause you pain in a year. The seat depth is also way to long…I trashed mine

  38. SIXEYE on August 30, 2021 at 10:54 pm

I have the Markus and it is the MOST uncomfortable chair ever…

  39. Fury Zlm on August 30, 2021 at 10:55 pm

    jarvafalet or markus ?

  40. morti271 on August 30, 2021 at 10:56 pm

I just wanted to buy and Markus for 130. Then saw the 40 shipping cost. Then saw Ikea doesn’t even ship to any town near me, not even ones with 150k population.
No idea what’s going on there, but I bought an Amazon Brand one that’s pretty decent for a bit higher price.

  41. Duarte Lucas on August 30, 2021 at 10:58 pm

The Markus fucked up my back

  42. Sandy_ Mango on August 30, 2021 at 10:59 pm

    Leather or Material for Markus?

  43. tygs on August 30, 2021 at 11:00 pm

its not that i can afford a 1000 chair, its just why should I

  44. C Daniel Nagy on August 30, 2021 at 11:06 pm

I got the HATTEFJÄLL. Wish I have not lost the receipt, I would have returned it. It is only comfy in the store for 5 minutes.

  45. Olivia Beck on August 30, 2021 at 11:07 pm

Can you give me the ones you don’t like anymore? hihi

  46. Daniel on August 30, 2021 at 11:08 pm

The only problem is that the markus has been out of stock in every except 2 Ikea stores in whole Germany since December…

  47. Dylan Loo on August 30, 2021 at 11:09 pm

Apparently, harder and more dense cushions for the seat of a chair is better than a softer cushions over longer sitting sessions.

  48. Tera Star on August 30, 2021 at 11:09 pm

I own both the LÅNGFJÄLL (Tall) and the JÄRVFJÄLLET, and i find the LÅNGFJÄLL much more comfortable to sit on for long periods. Unfortunately it doesnt come with full back or head rest

  49. Zlatan Morrison on August 30, 2021 at 11:09 pm

try finding one to actually buy in the UK atm – that isn’t from Amazon for almost twice the normal price….
