I love clever! One question or suggestion. As a professional Home Stager, TheCyberStager™️ (with OCD :), especially on your first two projects where coverings were thinner, I would have removed or loosened the outlet wall plates and reinstalled over new coverings. Only takes a minute to remove and leaves a perfect finished look.

You should remove the face plates before adding mats. It would give a cleaner, finished look. Good idea tho.

For the placemat idea, do you think it would have been easier to fill the holes if you put grout in there first, then covered with mod podge?
