Would love to see more environmentally sustainable packaging! I’m super surprised to see all the non-recyclable brick packs. Great hacks are sustainable hacks (at least for me).

If you don’t have refridgeration, you should think about getting a high end cooler..they are worth the money! Ice stays forever and you aren’t replacing it over and over…

Hi guys, how is the Van Life so far? I might have to do the Van Life since it’s so expensive to live in San Francisco. Just wondering and checking my options… Thanks! I work full time in SF, fyi.

What about salad and tomatoes? I’m in south Florida.  My van has solar and a small 12v fridge that works too well. I use the Fridge mostly as freezer to keep meat, milk and cheese around 20F and consumed within 3 days.   The solar panel shades most of  my roof , then there’s a reflective vinyl layer on top and an air gap and reflective insulation underneath. All of this is a great improvement, but the van still gets very hot inside in the middle of the day.  Bread is good for 3 days in the van. But if i store salad or tomatoes in the fridge they freeze and get damaged.  If i store them outside they get mushy and sweaty.  I know i can install a USB fridge that will consume 50 watts but battery capacity is already tight.  Any strategies for storing salad and tomatoes in a hot car for 3 days?

  31. Jane on March 18, 2021 at 12:54 am

You mentioned milk for coffee, that’s what I’m trying to figure out…making coffee whilst living in a van with no electricity or solar. In short of going to a coffee shop…
Ok, do you make coffee and what is your method? Thank you!!!

  32. Treeza Fernweh on March 18, 2021 at 12:56 am

Thank you SO much for the deli cheats!!! I’m running on a very small fridge with no freezer and I can’t eat much at all after a bariatric surgery.
Those shelvable tiny milks are perfect (dried and evap just don’t taste right)
Butter flakes are nice to have on hand, esp with grits – it’s a southern thing but oh so good!! Had no idea about the lettuce, nice.

    Hello

  36. Kentucky Girl on March 18, 2021 at 12:59 am

A couple of things I want to mention, instead of the "regular" powdered milk, try Nido brand. It tastes much better, closer to whole milk taste. Also, try using the butter crocks to store fresh butter (made easily with heavy cream and mason jar☺), but be sure to research how long you can store butter this way. Just a couple of ideas, in case you haven’t thought of these yet. God bless!

I started dehydrating food before I took off on my journey and dehydrated food is great because it doesn’t take up much room and you can decide what you want the day before take it out let it soak in the water for a while and then it Cooks fast and it tastes better than it does when you first if you know if you first use it. I have vegetables and fruits that are dehydrated.
