Lisa, I have a covered seat bench with pillow (โ€œLetโ€™s Stay Home) on blank wall just inside front condo door. Would it be โ€œnarcissisticโ€ to hang a larger-size (say, 20โ€ X 24โ€) framed picture of the two of us???? Thanks.

  2. Suzanne Hribal on September 8, 2021 at 11:07 pm

This is not realistic for most peopleโ€™s homes. I usually enjoy her tips but this video is disappointing.

I love these style tips, & I love your pizzazz, & your excitement, exuberance, & flair f/ design. But you were so funny yet so true, when you said, some spaces are so small you practically fall straight into the room from the front door. Yup, That’s me! My hand is raised! barely a second to stop b4 you hit the carpet of the living room right past the like 4 X 4 tile @ the door. My 1920 home is cute, tho & has tremendous potential, so, I’ll get rt. to work on making a statement f/ it & creating something amazing w/ it, following your 7 rules. I love the corner gold table w/ orange velvet & gold stool. Very elegant, simple, & beautiful. & those flashing red "cruiser lights" &siren are funny! I love the outdoor faux animal print almost weather proof front door mat. That’s very pretty & would look jazzy in front of my current black door. These are excellent rules! Thanks!! f/ all the hot tips!

Gorgeous examples๐Ÿ˜! Your tips are super helpful. Do you have any specific tips and examples for smaller entryways say,..smaller space combined with a staircase almost right up to the entry door, and 20+ foot ceiling ๐Ÿ˜ณ

I have door open in far corner of living room in large condo like house. Staight ahead is back door. So to use wall for storage elements, I block the view to back wall and door.

  8. Andreas T on September 8, 2021 at 11:16 pm

Our entrance is not large and kind of opens directly to the elevator. We have a floor to ceiling mirror, as ladies like to check with a last glimpse, a Rimadesio side board with marble top "misused" as a shoe storage, a Catellani & Smith lamp and a Lepli ottoman from Poltrona Frau to sit for the shoe change. Marble, silver and a pale green palette. A thing that is very important for me and the first thing people notice is the scent. It has to smell nice when entering your home.

What if you don’t want to "welcome the visitor?" ๐Ÿค” ๐Ÿคญ ๐Ÿคญ ๐Ÿคญ jk.

I honestly like the look for the "simple hall" look best. It’s the most relatable.

Haha I am looking at my entryway, I do have one but it is about 5โ€™ by 6โ€™. I think these small round tables in the center of a larger entry look like obstacles. Are people to go around them, leave their wet shoes there, look for snacks, park their weapons? The one with the folding stool looked really dumb. Maybe the Fedex guy could take his break there. Could I put my cat box there?

  15. Angeline Lee on September 8, 2021 at 11:24 pm

How about showing houses people actually own. In my area all the homes were built in 1970s for middle class income. No one has entryways like this. Ridiculous.

my family used to have a super-high-end gift shop in St. Thomas, USVI In the entrance was a — and this was in the 1980s — a $450K Lalique Crystal table with a fabulous flower arrangement in the center. It set the tone for what to expect in the rest of the store.

Hi Lisa – this is my first video of yours that I’ve watched – and I gotta say, I’m hooked! Loved your inspo shots and your energy! ( and , yes, I’ve subscribed!)

  19. Elisabeth Richard on September 8, 2021 at 11:29 pm

Thank you for this video, the advice was so practical. I really need to save this one for reference. My entryway is such a mess. I’ve bought my apartment three years ago, but never really got around to making it look quite like a home, and the entryway is the worst offender. Like half of my apartment, it’s very, very weirdly shaped. It’s also too large, and just the shape of it really bugs me! So your first advice about not fighting the architecture really speaks to me. I also liked what you said about making sure it reflects my style. I’m more confident that I can find a way to make this work now. I really think having a nice entryway should be a priority, not just for guests (who has guests these days?) but for ourselves. We go through that space everyday, and we’re the ones who need to feel welcomed by it.

  20. Barbara Golden on September 8, 2021 at 11:30 pm

My โ€œentrywayโ€ is a little hall with no room for anything ๐Ÿ˜•

  21. Jean on September 8, 2021 at 11:30 pm

There is a good reason why staircases have railings! I just shuddered looking at the curved stairway that lacked one! Clearly, no children lived or visited that home.

  22. omg dontstop on September 8, 2021 at 11:31 pm

I usually come in from the garage door and it is directly linked to my kitchen, i feel there are no space for anything

  23. Barbara Koch on September 8, 2021 at 11:31 pm

HI Lisa, another great video. I think I watch them a few times. LOL I was hoping you would do a video on selecting fabric for furniture. What does double rub mean and numbers? Is polyester the best? Thanks BARB

  32. Darcy L on September 8, 2021 at 11:46 pm

Lisa not only do I love your design tips and knowledge but, I adore how you crack yourself up. Here I am taking notes but also smiling when watching your videos. ๐Ÿ™‚

  33. james wentworth on September 8, 2021 at 11:46 pm

I really appreciate the historical references to the development of the entry way. A little foot note to add is that Frank Lloyd Wright utilized a cozy low ceiling entry way that would make the impact of going into the main open living space all the more dramatic. PS I must be doing something right because I’ve incorporated all 7 of your rules. Keep up the good work.

  34. Vivcat Micky Maus on September 8, 2021 at 11:46 pm

So many inspiring and fantastic Ideas! But I have one problem – my entry has the size of a stamp. It’s really tiny and has 6 doors, so there’re not a lot of walls to place something in front of. Can you please make a video about how to style tiny entrys? Especially here in germany we have a lot of appartements with tiny entrys

  35. Jordan Kwasnycia on September 8, 2021 at 11:47 pm

My front door opens with a bathroom door 3.5ft directly in front of you and about 3.5ft of wall to the right of that. It’s very tight and unwelcoming. Especially if someone just took a shit

  36. Kimberly Perrotis on September 8, 2021 at 11:48 pm

I have a 3x 5 foot vestibule, so it only has wallpaper, a rug and a wall mirror. I canโ€™t add a shelf, because the front door couldnโ€™t open. My house (Victorian cottage) is odd because upon entry you face a door to a down staircase, you have to go through the house to see the grander up staircase. Iโ€™ve never seen a house like it. I would love to have a house with a real front hall with room for a table and bench or chairs.

  37. DrValerie800 on September 8, 2021 at 11:49 pm

Love the tips Lisa! I was thinking back to when I had a big house with double front doors with beveled glass in the doors and sidelights. When we drove up at night, the entry was dark and foreboding. So we shopped around, found an etagere that was 2 faux stone columns with 4 glass shelves and up lights in the top of the columns. Wow was that fabulous (and huge). That fixed the problem and lit up the entryway so light sparkled off the beveled glass beautifully…and impressed the heck out of the neighbors, who wanted to know where I got that etagere. โค๏ธ

  38. Mellie on September 8, 2021 at 11:49 pm

Hi, loved your video but it would be very nice to see how to do this in homes that don’t have dedicated entryways. For example we are buying an apartment. The door opens directly into a hallway. What do we do there?

  39. Cindy Riehm on September 8, 2021 at 11:49 pm

Funny. You left your door unlocked or had someone else I n the house. I love calling cards

  44. Heather Mitten on September 8, 2021 at 11:54 pm

Thank you Lisa for giving the guidelines. Grand spaces with big budgets are fun. Everything is new or perfectly refurbished in beautiful colors. How do you create a lovely space with what you have? Or as you downsize. Regardless of budget or personal style. Thatโ€™s what is most helpful and interesting. More examples of that would be great.

  45. Helen McHayle on September 8, 2021 at 11:54 pm

Im struggling to find a entry way table top and with some kind of storage unit and a bench. Do these 2 pieces have to be related to each other in period and/or color? Do they have to be consistent with living room furniture – mid century modern with one mahogany chest with Asian motif.
