I live in a minivan. But I don’t see it as living in my van. I’m only in my van to drive or sleep. I live in various places, wherever I travel.

Wife wants a camper to travel around in. Might consider something else cheaper as I don’t want to invest on a 2nd home. Also the upfront cost new or used camper vs rv

My MIL sold her home and bought a beautiful 44ft motor home. They also have 3 dogs. It’s just too expensive and seems as soon as motor home living got popular the space rents went sky high.

One potential problem is if you or your companions(s) have health issues!
Being sick and living in an RV does not seem very appealing.

I love to travel but for me I must have a “home base” as I get tired of driving and road weary after awhile. But I do love Spring to Fall Travel season then it’s home for the winter to regroup for the next adventure. Oh I still us the Atlas Road Maps…there great when you have zero cell services. 😊

Christmas dinner was no fun, not going to have good enough cooking equipment. Relation tried it and it was not good.

  12. F Jai on August 9, 2023 at 4:19 pm

Maybe you should have done better research before adopting this lifestyle. If you don’t like camping, quit. You just sound like whiners.

  13. S N on August 9, 2023 at 4:20 pm

My guess is major inconveniences would be cost of fuel, and bugs – mosquitoes eating you alive. Also, I would want to travel with my dog, and that would mean a lot of challenges when dogs are not permitted in stores, or wherever. Someone should invent a dog caring / dogsitting app for vanlifers where they can find dog lovers in a given city / place who’d be willing to take them into their home and back yard for an afternoon while the owners could hike, sight-see, etc.

I was blessed to have a beautiful RV for a year and a half and worked remote on the road driving from East to West Coast. Best experience of my life ( at 70) But got sick during covid had’s big medical bills, And the head to sell my beautiful RV. Have another year to pay off the medical bills and then wanna get a camper van and get back on the road. What view have been saying is so true. Not everything is wine and roses on the road, You can run into sketchy situations and crappy campgrounds … But you can also have some of the greatest experiences and meet some of the sweetest people and really have the time of your life. You just have to keep your eyes open and be a realist…. And yes, I ran through some really bad storms and especially a hailstorm that bust it out, they were gonna share. It used to be cover over my maxifan.

  18. King ForADay on August 9, 2023 at 4:25 pm

My wife and I thought about travelling but not full time living in an 25 foot-ish motorhome, still maintaining a bricks and sticks home.
I remember back when I was a kid staying in state/national parks and KOA RV parks for almost nothing.
Ive checked into the prices of these places now and was not amused. Then you add in the cost of the RV, gas, insurance, tires, maintenance, vehicle tax…..geez
In addition the challenge of driving one of these beasts, a possible tow vehicle and we are not a pair of spring chickens.
A nice roomy car and staying in cabins, hotels, and motels now seem more realistic.
Still though I remember the cookouts, a campfire, being in the forest, a hike, etc.

  34. Gloria Symes on August 9, 2023 at 4:51 pm

Where do you pick up your mail, or of which option would you choose for an address if you lived on the road? Cause not only could your Town and/or Village change, your County and even your State…. And who know they may change often,…. How would you work that out with the Postal Service???

  35. TenThumbs Productions on August 9, 2023 at 4:52 pm

While this is great advice for people need to hear it, it all feels like common sense.

Something else few people consider is that if you’ve found a nice quiet spot someone before you has also, and they not have, ah, ‘buried their business’, let alone packed their trash out.

  39. John Phoenix on August 9, 2023 at 4:55 pm

Free tip… When you can’t get a shower for whatever reason, baby wipes make a decent, affordable alternative. I’ve never used them after a day of hiking but have used them after driving all day. I didn’t feel as refreshed as I do after a shower but it was refreshing enough to be a backup plan. And they are far cheaper than paying for a shower at a truck stop.

  40. Richard Northrop on August 9, 2023 at 4:57 pm

All the rules and regulations added after rv/van life/ stealth camping/tiny home living became main stream was and is because the system doesn’t want you off the grid. They lose money that way. The state doesn’t get to collect taxes off your house, utility companies don’t make money off you for gas, water, electric, trash removal, etc. It’s all designed to discourage you from doing it. They want to make it as hard as possible so you say "Screw this, I’m going back to living in a house". That’s not to say there isn’t logistical problems inherent with this lifestyle because there is, such as the bathroom issue. Bathrooms in your average RV are NOT designed to make is easy or comfortable to go, specially #2. But in all fairness, they are designed as a temporary solution because RV’ing is supposed to be temporary, I:E a week or less vacation per year. And I do think most people are aware of these issues. I don’t imagine most people getting into a RV to live are thinking it’s going to be a grand adventure 24/7. The sad part is the cost is being made really prohibitive for most people to do now. Solar is the best way to go but my god, the initial cost is mind boggling these days. I don’t know many people these days that can afford to drop $10k for a full solar system for off grid living in a RV or similar. You can go cheaper but $10k is about what it’s going to cost to go "All-in".

  41. Jack Winter on August 9, 2023 at 5:00 pm

    No overnight parking….
You don’t need a RV. You need a self-built van without side windows with your own shower and a large greywater tank as well as a composting toilet.

  42. Pamela Wright on August 9, 2023 at 5:00 pm

You two are so cute. Thanks for the video. That is the one thing I dislike about these other videos, everything is perfect. So thank you.

  43. R Rain on August 9, 2023 at 5:00 pm

Some of the things you listed I knew. And your most important of all was there are a lot of people living the Van life. And they are all fighting for a spot at the campgrounds. It is important to make a reservation in advance. Sadly more people are living in cars and vans because of homelessness they are not staying in campgrounds. They are staying in very sketchy places. Be safe out there. Safe travels.

  44. Darlene on August 9, 2023 at 5:02 pm

I’ll rent one on vacation thanks. I’d never buy one. It’s like buying a boat that needs moorage. Cheaper to rent/lease

  45. Susan Beavers on August 9, 2023 at 5:04 pm

  46. Kyle Brabandt on August 9, 2023 at 5:04 pm

I’ve been camping in campers for over 10 years, and camper/rv living really isn’t for everyone. At one point, I even had to ride out the outer edge of a hurricane in a camper before. So while it can seem glamorous, it’s not all it’s cracked up to be.

  47. Mike black on August 9, 2023 at 5:07 pm

I love it’s kind of content thank you guys.

  48. Ester Drass on August 9, 2023 at 5:07 pm

I always wonder about cost of it all. One woman was on a channel talking about how she belonged to this ‘club’ where you can camp for a ‘cheap’ rate. I guess it depends on anyone’s idea of what ‘cheap’ is. Unless it’s a state campground and you are registered in that particular state, ‘cheap’ will vary into the triple digits a night. The campgrounds this particular woman was boasting about was equal to a three-star basic hotel. Not cheap to me. You still have to register the vehicle somewhere and pay insurance. Anyway, I love to watch videos on all of it, no plans to live in an RV though. I know a woman that did it, she lived in a real nice park too with a beautiful camper and she hated it. She just didn’t like the familiness of it all and just wanted to be alone most of the time but apparently her neighbors wouldn’t let her. Eventually she sold it and has lived in a house since.

  49. casinogamer79 on August 9, 2023 at 5:08 pm

If you are solo I reccomend downsizing from an RV to a smaller vehichle like a small cargo type van or a small truck with a camper. The gas mileage will be much better, parking spaces will be easier to find, they dont stick out like a sore thumb provided that you dont have a lot stuff visible inside it or the windows blocked off with curtains, there are less repairs, you will be happier in the long run.
