Best States for Van Life and Living Off The Grid. $25 Rent

Are you sick of paying excessive rent and want to travel? Do you work remotely or are you retired? Do you want to pay $25 rent for more than half the year?
If you said yes be warned this video might ignite your wanderlust.

With the increased popularity of remote working, van life has become a thing.
Throughout history, if you are living in a van down by the river, you were down on your luck, life took a bad turn and you can’t afford a studio apt above a strip club called dirty joes.
That was the old days. This has become a very popular way to live.
Over the last 2 years, I have been researching this for myself. Not for a full-time thing but for weeks at a time while I travel the country.

How popular is this? There have been around 15 million posts about #VanLife on Instagram over the past few years, and hundreds of van life channels have sprung up on Youtube. This is now a legit lifestyle that many retirees and remote workers are choosing. They aren’t just living in 1970 Ford Econoline vans either. Class B Motor homes, Sprinter vans, and really nice converted buses

The state of Arizona is very solar friendly. Solar panels and batteries for cars and trucks or solar systems are TAX FREE.

I heard that in Big Bend NP sleeping in a van is forbidden….. Pitch a tent and make them think you are using it. Might be mistaken but I did hear that a couple of years…. Good video……thanks

The "community" of Job Shoppers (temporary workers) often use vans. The nature of Job Shopping is that your "contract" ends when on Friday afternoon you are told to not come in on Monday.

  11. Mark Williamson on June 26, 2023 at 2:19 pm

Best idea is to have a small spot of land that is yours to come back to , wander all you want but have that spot somewhere with no restrictions . Homebase is a must have to keep your sanity…I don’t have one yet….lol..

Great list. I’ve been living in an RV full time for almost 7 years (left my crazy life in the SF Bay Area) and you hit some of my favorites. California gets such a bad rap but there’s so much national forest land and it’s gorgeous. I also think NM is underrated. Spent my whole winter there last year. Plenty of space and if you can deal with a few nights in the teens you’ll love the quiet compared to busy AZ winters. Thanks for all your work on these videos.

I have my own take on van life that I am working on. Don’t have a van yet but I am building a network of locations for my business and just sleep at one of them so I don’t need a house. As I continue to expand, eventually to different states, I plan on having a van to travel between them. Part of that expansion includes airbnb’s that I can also use as places to stay when they are not rented out.

I’ve traveled 80% of the U.S land mass. I’ve camped in 26 different states. Any of the following states have beautiful scenery, peaceful camping, and a massive amount of free camping. Arizona, New Mexico , Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Washington state, Oregon, Nevada, and Utah. I stay out of the big cities, especially Colorado, Oregon, and Washington, but I have met some wonderful people in all 3 of those states camping in gorgeous free areas. California is too crowded, and too expensive. Colorado can be a bit expensive but has world class camping with mountain lakes full of trout . Magical places to camp and fish. Oh, and as far as U saying U need a hot shower, I learned from necessity on a hunting trip that it takes LESS than 3 gallons of H2O to take a Complete shower. I use a bucket of heated water and sit on another bucket either in my shower tent, or in a large plastic tote inside my big tent. U can wash Ur hair, and entire body with 3 Gals or less. Guaranteed.

    New Mexico! Yes

  22. Carlos Francisco on June 26, 2023 at 2:29 pm

Florida not on the list? It might surprise you.

  23. Cisium on June 26, 2023 at 2:33 pm

From what I see on YouTube, only girls with big tits are allowed to live in a van. And every week they post a video called "It’s Over!" – but it never is.

I think that if you’re gonna be a van lifer then you really gotta stay on top of your health. No ambulance is coming for you

  26. Boosh43 on June 26, 2023 at 2:38 pm

I would definitely love the van life..I believe this for me .

  27. Debbie’s Death Pile on June 26, 2023 at 2:39 pm

This video really missed the mark. Been living this life for the last several years and I couldn’t disagree more with the list. And Florida isn’t on the list? 😂 Free camping for weeks at a time courtesy of the water management districts and beautiful sights and weather. Much better than hanging out in the middle of the desert

  28. Lynn Bangs on June 26, 2023 at 2:40 pm

Would it be interesting to talk about which cities European and American are most compatible for van life?!?

  32. Amy Girl on June 26, 2023 at 2:44 pm

As a single woman, I just worry about safety. Otherwise I would so do this.

  33. Roger Spalding on June 26, 2023 at 2:46 pm

It appears that your video is limited to what are customarily called Class "B" RVs. These are, for the most part, privately converted or commercially manufactured vans for recreational vehicle purposes (e.g. Mercedes Benz Sprinter vans or Ford Transit vans). Class C, or Super C, or Class A RVs are considerably larger than simple vans. Also, they are much more sophisticated and technologically complex. Did you intend to leave all towable RVs out of your piece (i.e. 5th wheels and trave
    H l trailers)?~m m m

  34. Rav4Life on June 26, 2023 at 2:46 pm

Eight years now of vanlife and still feeling like I landed on a cheat code. But not for everyone.
Best formula I’ve found for my enjoyment is staying 4 to 6 months per (interesting) state. All of them have their pros and cons.

I want to know which states I can buy an acre or 5 and live in a rv or van so I have a home base. Do you have a video like that?

  47. Falcor The Wonder Dog on June 26, 2023 at 3:04 pm

The 25 dollar a month free is for long term visitor areas. BLM land is free if you’re boondocking or you can pay the 180 dollars to access the LTVA area where there are water and dump stations and trash bins. If you don’t need these there’s lots of BLM areas that are totally free but you need to find water and dump stations and trash dumps. Not at all hard to find.

  48. Curly G on June 26, 2023 at 3:04 pm

Is it a coincidence that the #1 state for van life happens to be famous for a guy who cooked blue meth in a RV

  49. Falcor The Wonder Dog on June 26, 2023 at 3:07 pm

Currently in Quartzsite for the big RV show. There must be more than 100,000 RVers here waiting for the show to start on the 21st.
