Glad you have the tree and roof for cover from hawks. We had golden eagles on our ranch but our chickens had a good roof to hide under so eagles and hawks didn’t get them.

Great work you two, the hens and the chicken coop are great too !! Should call them Ginger Sporty Baby and Scary. The glamping tent looks amazing and I can’t wait to book I once you’ve got it all up and running !!

  16. zaftra on July 23, 2023 at 6:09 pm

Is the top layer of your decking upside down? shouldn’t the ‘turreted’ bits face up not down.

Please tell me you rescued the hens? Thousands of hens get slaughtered each year because at 18mths old they are no longer as viable and egg production starts to decline. Please always rescue if you can😢

I hope you don’t mind, but I have a question about the growatt system. We’ve been living off-grid for almost 10 years and have a system attached to our house but bought a Jackery for portable jobs. We found it great for charging a phone or power tool battery, but we would have killed it if we used it for a kettle or heating or anything more powerful. We would absolutely buy a Growatt! Especially if it can be used for heating and boiling a kettle! Do you know if the manufacturer warranty covers it for this kind of regular usage? And do you have a link of where to buy? If you guys can benefit from our purchase that would be awesome!

I grew up on a farm, but I have lived much of my adult life in the city. While I like living in the city, I will always miss the chickens. I loved seeing your new chickens.

  28. SIUK CNC on July 23, 2023 at 6:26 pm

In future, if you attach a cut off spur along the top of your joists & noggins at either end, protruding beyond the length of the joists/noggins, when you drop them in, they will self level to the top of the frame, it will save you time and make fixing them in place much easier. You only need hold them on with staples or tacks.

  46. Bizzibeans catering on July 23, 2023 at 6:39 pm

Quick tip for cutting noggins. Line 2 pieces of wood on top of each other so the ends are flush, mark your measurement on the top one and set your blade so it just marks the 2nd piece, then you don’t have to re measure! On your next cut do the same and so on! Hope it works for you.

  47. Lisa Gray on July 23, 2023 at 6:39 pm

You could move that set up around (minus the pavers) and have them fertilising the ground for planting.
