Camping World Ex-Saleman Dishes On Working There – Part 1

Camping World Ex-Saleman Dishes On Working There – Part 1

What is it like to work as a salesman at Camping World? The RV Wingman was contacted recently by an ex-Camping World Salesman who filled his ear with stories that seem to show a pattern of slick sales tactics that may show you how CW has become the largest RV Dealer in the country. This ex-employee says there are many areas that are profit centers for CW that the unknowing buyer falls prey to. Let us know what you think in the comments. We may read them on the Air.

If you’d like a one-on-one telephone call (off-the-air) with the Wingman to discuss your questions or possibly get his perspective on your situation, click here and set an appointment: https://calendly.com/rvwingman/15min

Never buy anything or do business with Gander RV or Camping World! They do not honor their promises. We have heard nothing but broken promises and lies from local dealershiper all the way to Corporate Headquarters!

I’ve worked in the car business for 35 years including being in finance same no difference secure a loan with a bank or better yet a credit union they have the best rates then go buy your dream takes all pain out of buying and leaves all the fun if buying used get a carfax or similar history report if you buy a warranty shop around for the best price and service just like cars let someone else take the first few years of depreciation and get more for your buck and shop around before you choose don’t buy the first shinny ring you see……..

I can’t see and didn’t see , any super cheap RVS at Camping World . Their RVS are on board with other dealers .

I agree with a lot of the comments, in that they are no different than dealing with most car dealerships. But the biggest issue with CW is the poor service after the sale. I have read and heard many horror stories of how CW will slow roll service repairs or just do a very poor job. I have been to 3 or 4 different CWs RV shopping over the years and once you tell them you’re paying cash, they don’t seem quite as interested in the sale. And same experience with car dealerships.

A well informed buyer typically will not buy from these crooks.

Mr.X can’t speak . i get what he is trying to say. but, its like pulling teeth. its the same as buying a car, when the only thing you know is what the monthly payment will be. people need to study up on what they are paying for,

Good, I’m planning on paying cash. So I’ll make a cheap deal and won’t tell them I am going to be paying cash, then it will be to late for them.

  18. carwen40 on August 2, 2021 at 9:56 pm

Would you please give us advice on where we can go to buy a camper? My husband and I just walked away from camping world! We live in Ohio.

  19. He Who Is on August 2, 2021 at 9:57 pm

I went to look at a class B 3 yrs ago. Saw one I liked, and went back to the office told then I wanted their best cash price. Salesman came back w Mgr and tag- teamed me to finance. I said, no, cash. I walked away. Never went back.
    ( sorry it was a class C)

  20. Paul Daron on August 2, 2021 at 9:57 pm

This is ridiculous click bait! CW clearly operates Just like every car dealership in country. Everyone can get their own financing and compare with the dealership rates.

  21. Jim Locke on August 2, 2021 at 9:58 pm

Mr. X takes far too long to get to a point… ANY point. And he doesn’t understand the finance portion. It’s easy to see why he got fired… I mean, why he resigned. LOL

  22. Rick B1 on August 2, 2021 at 9:59 pm

LOL Camping world …Just go in and ask any of their salesmen… ‘So I hear two of my friends whose bought from you say they are always having issues with the quality of what you sell, and that they are told to expect trouble with ANY RV because they are all crap" And see what he says.. Ill bet I know what exactly what they will say”” The business is so busy they can’t keep up with the volume and are just throwing the RVs together’ LOLOLOL If you hear the RUN before waisting any time there… an tell the sales manager why..

  23. Douglas Lucas on August 2, 2021 at 10:00 pm

Been told 10xs checks in the mail. I’m going to have fun with them in small claims court 😉

  24. jason goodwin on August 2, 2021 at 10:00 pm

Nothing shocking here- car dealers make their $$ on financing too

  25. kameemw on August 2, 2021 at 10:01 pm

They tried to get me to agree to a credit check “to see where we are at” prior to discussing the price. The next step is signing an intent to purchase without knowing the interest rate which is the first time I saw that almost $2000 in dealer fees. Once they figured out I was paying cash they were not nearly as interested in selling me an RV.

  29. rfarevalo on August 2, 2021 at 10:04 pm

Show me an RV, Boat, or Car dealer that doesn’t make MOST of their profit off of financing. Almost any car dealers will try and profit off you with a financing deal if your are not financially literate. Home Depot, Sears, and Lowes will do it too (the only difference is they don’t get MOST of their profits from appliance financing).

I’ve heard a lot of bad things about Camping World, but this is an(EX Salesman)No matter what(unless)it is a threat to society overall.I don’t like people, who leave a company and RAT,them out, especially when they won’t reveal their name.If the buyer is not careful the bottom line,it’s the purchaser fault for being duped.

Wingman. I went to your video you claimed to be earth shatteringly important. Result: UNSUBSCRIBED and reported you and that 23 minute Cheyenne AD that it clearly is. The one you’ll personally and financially benefit from. Clearly obvious from the logo on everyone one of your shows. You have just joined the ranks of the Scam Sham Con Men that you accuse Marcus of. Congratulations you POS! No fan of Camping World. I want to make that clear. But this is a highly scripted, poorly acted AD. Be honest about that Cheyenne! And the comments/replies are equally scripted and blatant planted ADs! We all know that Camping World is crooked but you have just added yourselves to the list. Wingman now gets unsubscribed and this bullshit AD reported to YouTube. I wouldn’t do business with either of you. Maybe you’ll soon realize you just made yourself guilty of the same BS you accuse CW and Marcus of. I hope this thinly veiled smear campaign tanks your business. I was taught that it takes a con man to ID a con man. You just proved
    That so true!

Before we bought our RV we rented three different manufacturers and sizes. Our last one was in Alaska. We were the first people to rent a 35 foot Thor. Thank goodness my husband is an engineer because we had nothing but trouble with it. Twice we had a kitchen sink leak because the slider was pinching on the water hose which she couldn’t see very easily and we had to take a lot of the Camper apart. My husband worked with their mechanic so we didn’t have to ruin our vacation by going all the way back to Anchorage to try to get another one. But every few days we would have a new problem. Not only that the cabinets were not secured to the wall very well and my husband had to work on that and the hinges. So when we went to buy ours we made sure we didn’t buy a cheap one. We ended up with a leisure travel sprinter Mercedes which is a 2007. It is a solid as a rock and we have no issues with it at all. Good luck Thor. You better start making a better product. Also I have not heard anything good about camping world. So I won’t be going there.

I watch the video on camping world. After watching I vow never to buy so much a screw from Camping World.

  40. Dwight Hapeman on August 2, 2021 at 10:23 pm

This is TOTAL bullshit. Mr. X! What a joke. I just bought a new Lance RV from Gander and it was the most professional, straight up honest deal of any vehicle I have ever purchased in my 69 years. I would buy from these guys anytime.

  41. Dr. Prepper NolteandGodfrey on August 2, 2021 at 10:23 pm

I worked there as well and he’s on the right track on the surface of what they are doing. I’ve seen deals where the made 16 k in the back end. Making reserve, selling warranties and sealants and Gap insurance. My finance guy was making 30k a month in the spring and summer.

  42. Jukebox Jokers on August 2, 2021 at 10:25 pm

Bought a new Thor Motorcoach from Paul Sherry before they sold out to camping world. Worst experience ever. Salesman got a bad attitude when I told them about warranty repairs needed done was more worried about his commission. Was lied to about the 3 yr warranty and got stuck with factory defects to have to fix out of my pocket. Detected or had approx. 40 defects within 14 months, many were present before purchase. They refused to fix the obvious factory defective window or cabinets mounted around the electric bunk that were installed out of square. So ended up with a $80k new motorhome with 1,300 mi’s I can’t lock up because of window and bunk rubs and damages the fake wood when operated. Been in shop good portion of time waiting on parts and repair. Seems like the dealer and Thor doesn’t care about quality and defects, they stick the buyer with excessive down time, waiting on parts, trips to repair and try to avoid repairing some obvious factory defects (said 3 yr warranty expired in 1yr). They won’t do what’s morally correct, seems everything changes once they get your money. I would never buy a Thor or from Paul Sherry again! Check out all the bad THOR reviews and BBB. Check every little thing out even if it takes all day and make sure they fix them before receiving rv and signing sales agreement with any seller. The life long dream and great experience feeling took a humongous dive after they got my money, the excessive non stop issues make me sick to my stomach, this thing will most likely quarter and dollar me to death! I wish I would have got a school bus and built one right myself!

  43. Paul Howell on August 2, 2021 at 10:25 pm

This guy doesn’t know any details or sounds like he knows anything specific on the inside finance deals , just a disgruntled ex employee

  44. John Harris on August 2, 2021 at 10:25 pm

Never go shopping for a car or RV without getting a pre approved loan from your bank. The Dealer wants to get you into a loan that lets them sell you the most expensive thing you can afford, the Bank wants to put you into a loan that is safe for you and them. You might not get as large of a loan from the bank, but they will not screw you over.

  46. Doggy Style on August 2, 2021 at 10:27 pm

A shady business can’t last that long. I’m think Camping World has done a lot of right things to stay profitable.

  47. Roger Yarnell on August 2, 2021 at 10:27 pm

I worked at a Dodge dealer in 83. Same song and dance. I don’t know if they added a percentage on the loan, but they got a commission from the lender for selling the loan. Also they got huge commissions for selling extended warranties. But the sales people only got paid on the up front profit between the invoice and the retail price.
But the biggest money stream was the shop. We were almost giving Dodge K cars away because they were known as "The gift that keeps on giving!"

  48. John Harris on August 2, 2021 at 10:28 pm

This is a story about being honest with a customer. My dad sold Rv’s for a small local dealer. He was retired, bored and my mom made him get out of the house. So he sold Rvs. This guy walks on the lot and wants a big 32 foot trailer and wants to tow it with his F-150. My dad told him he can’t tow that trailer with an F-150. The guy said other dealers said he could. The guy told my dad that he knew he could not tow a trailer like that with an F-150, he was looking for the first salesman to tell him the truth. This RV dealer owned the Ford Dealership across the street. The guy bought the 32 foot trailer and then he went across the street with my dad and bought a new F-350, and my dad got commission on both sales. This guy knew what he wanted and had the money, he just wanted to work with an honest dealer and sales man.

I personally bought a camper from Camping World I had no issues with Camping World or their financial department I even went back and looked over the papers everything is like it should be I assume Mr. Ex doesn’t understand when you do a loan you have to pay interest the interest I paid on the loan was fair
