Camping World Exposed on The RV Show USA

The Producer of the video “The Truth about Camping World” Kevin Frazer joins Alan Warren in the studio to talk about how some Camping World “sales techniques” have destroyed people’s financial lives, ruined their passion for RVing and will ultimately have a negative effect on the RV Industry. Good info, but the video you refer to seems like more of an advertisement for Cheyenne Camping Center as much as a take-down of unscrupulous tactics at Camping World. And thus, they lose a bit of believability. I’m sure they are great folks, and I would consider them for my next RV. Consider my example: What if you watched a movie about McDonald’s hamburgers that pointed out their methods and meat production, but found out that the movie was made by Burger King? Even if all the facts were correct, the movie would be questionable. It would be far better if the Camping World victims were to make their own video, with no connection to Cheyenne or any other dealer.

I am very empathetic to all of those who were ripped off by Camping World. I recently purchased a used RV from them before I realized what a terrible reputation they had. Maybe I lucked out, maybe not. I have not picked up my unit yet. I paid cash on a 15 year old unit that appears to be in great shape. We will do a final walk-through where I will be very thorough with my own checklist. I’ve learned a lot from YouTube about what to look for and honestly there are some things that I did not think to look for such as rust undercarriage excetera. I paid cash so they didn’t offer me any extended warranties. They were not able to tack on their financing fees on a loan. This is not our first fifth wheel. It’s our third and we’ve had a couple Class C RVs and a travel trailer. We aren’t novices but there are still things to learn. Let the buyer beware I hope I didn’t get ripped off.

They lost my title promised they would send a new one never did. I paid cash. It now just sits in my driveway. A lot of issues after sale. Rude staff. Poor quality camper. They also told me it wasn’t like a car.

I would like to see Camping World go out of business, and have Mom and Pop dealers fill the void.

  19. Jim Lamb on July 18, 2021 at 3:40 am

Worked there for 7 years. Scum just scum. They don’t care that this is one of the last great family time adventures. They just want your money after that you mean nothing to them. For every great employee you meet during thier walk threw. There are dozens of managers and higher up that don’t know crap about camping or how to use thier own products. Lies lies lies

  20. jim293 on July 18, 2021 at 3:41 am

    Never ever buy from them

  21. Ken Gough on July 18, 2021 at 3:43 am

It’s to late for me and yes it’s everything the reviews say. I wish I would of done a little more homework. Harrisburg Pennsylvania Camping World read reviews.

  22. MensHelpTv on July 18, 2021 at 3:45 am

Do not buy from Camping World, they sell defective campers and then refuse to fix them, don’t be suckered into keeping your brand new camper in there possession they fake fixing campers and even refuse to do the jobs claiming your brand new camper parts are not covered by warranty. They sold us a defective camper and refused to fix all the problems but pretended to give a day by day week by week process of fixing… they are people who try and do con jobs and even make out you are the stupid one or try to charge you to fix your brand new camper. The general manager does not care about your complaints. You will find it hard to get people to reply back to you, in person, or via e-mail. Please go to another camper place I am begging you, our brand new camper is still defective but they claim they fixed it, this is not true, they claim to be sending parts to your house and it does not arrive. Don’t fall for we fixed it and I am a trouble maker, I want you to decide that Camping world lie and lie again and sign off on jobs they never have done, trust me they have done this on our camper since June this year 2020. In my opinion, they are thieves and refuse to fix your camper saying it is not covered at all by a warranty even when they sell it to you and you discover the problems later and try and address it, we spent about 20 grand it is a lot of money… to have this company camping world short change us on a brand new camper. Tell your friends and family they are not operating honestly acting towards the customer or the product. My wife Sandra is cranky also with the lies they told her about fixing and maintenance to our camper… and they do this straight in your face. Our camper is like owning a second hand one but it is brand new. I have tried to get them to reply to e-mails and they refuse to reply… and if you read other people’s reviews you will notice a common theme, broken batteries broken lights broken radios, missing parts, the refusal for them to fix other peoples campers, damage caused within their shop on your camper, management refusing to call you back or e-mail you back. Coleman should be ashamed of themself selling defective campers through the Camping World Location 730 George Roy Parkway

Calera, AL 35040. Yours truly Sandra and Paul Monro

Don’t finance anything in the RV industry

  24. joracer1 on July 18, 2021 at 3:47 am

They couldn’t get me I’m too hard nosed, his bottom $ i will cut that 15% make him include extended warranty, plus refuse financing, if i don’t get that $25k camper $39k msrp for $17k with extended warranty plus the camper will be gone through with a fine tooth comb, plus the contract will be in writing by my lawer which I include a warranty extension for time in shop in writing. if he don’t play that game he’s out. Plus I might just bust his head and walk anyway.

What do you expect from a Lemonis owned business?

  26. Mark Villano on July 18, 2021 at 3:49 am

I would guess (and I could be wrong) that with the amount of information so readily available, and easily accessible these days, that most people looking at purchasing an RV for the first time would be doing at least a modicum of research. That said, if you were in such a position position and were so lazy that you looked no further than Yelp for information, red flags would immediately go up with Camping World. As large companies go, their reputation is among the worst of the worst, across the board. So it surprises me that they are continually able to lure in new customers, and have yet to be sued out of existence. Buyers need do do nothing more than to type "Camping World" into the search bar, followed by the words, "Scam" or "Ripoff".

  27. Shelley Ritter on July 18, 2021 at 3:50 am

I just bought a used camper from Camping World. So, so grateful I paid cash so I don’t have the issues that customers who financed through them, are up against. It’s still on there lot being gone through to make sure everything works. You can be darn sure that I have a checklist too. We will go through it when we do our final walk-through.

  28. David Morgan on July 18, 2021 at 3:50 am

    Wow
And I was getting ready to go to CW

  29. Wanderlust 64 on July 18, 2021 at 3:53 am

There are …HUGE, HUGE profit margins in most everything in the RV world from rigs to after market sales, so why anyone gouges more out of any customer is criminal. Yet anyone who tells facts, will be trashed & buried by the offenders. Customers of Camping World need to file Criminal Complaints with the Federal US Department of Justice. Maybe then, the entire RV industry will clean up it’s act.

  30. Vanishing Point on July 18, 2021 at 3:53 am

Interesting video for sure but these buyers really have no one to blame but themselves for their poor judgement and decision making, mostly all salesmen are shysters, will say anything to get a sale and it’s the financing that makes the stealerships the majority of profit.

The finance guys go over all the facts and figures and the folks sign off on it, so who is to blame here?

Bottom line is if you have to finance the trailer, you can’t afford it, period end of story.

No I don’t work for the company being skewered or any other RV Dealer, I’m just a simple country boy wise to the ways of the world.

I just replaced my 1989 pickup with a 2018, paid cash, no BS, people nowadays buy all kinds of stuff they don’t need and use credit to

do it and that is a huge financial mistake….

We are getting ready to purchase a small Travel Trailer, cash, been waiting a long time, will go private party to get the best deal!

Mr. Frazer sounds knowledgeable. "Love of money is the root of all evil." And those who use the Lord’s name to cover up will be found out.

  33. George Jones on July 18, 2021 at 3:55 am

I bought my first RV and felt like I got totally taken, it was 1 year old , but now I totally regret the whole experience. We literally had to question everything they did, Supposedly we had an environmental treatment that cost 1200, no proof anything was put on camper. Fee after fee that they added had to be questioned. Then they said instead of refunding my money for these items, they said they would take it off my principal. What can be done? I put 20000 down and kids well burnt that money, not to mention that they ran my credit so many times they ruined my credit rating

Do you Recommend any RV Dealers by name?

  36. velmari on July 18, 2021 at 3:58 am

Please advise, do you know an attorney who can help me with this. I’m elderly, don’t have much funds. I bought from them, realizing how they bumped up the price with all the extras, I called them and asked them to remove the extras well within 30 days to cancel. I complained and they claimed they canceled and funds would go to bank. To wait 6 weeks. Thus was April 2021. Here we are July 2021, the bank hasn’t received those funds. Please HELP.

Been there done that. I always say,,, the bigger and more successful a person or company is ; the more crooked they must be. I would rather live in a tent than any Rv. They are built to fail as fast as possible.

  48. Charles Parker on July 18, 2021 at 4:15 am

Camping world is a rip off. They don’t care about their customers. They dont honor their products and ruin new campers and chase them away from rving. $2300 for repairs and only fixed 3 outside lights by reconnecting one wire. REALLY ? $2300.

  49. Mel Rose on July 18, 2021 at 4:16 am

I went to Gander Outdoors (Owned by Camping World) and was put with a smooth talking salesman. He had a 1650BH Ozark single axle TT. We had been shopping for weeks and really liked this one. He asked us to fill out a credit app and my wife told him we want a price then we will do the app. I was thinking we would get a deal so I said we would and he then brought out a sheet with the price in it. One fee was a $1595 Go camping fee. My wife asked about that and he said it was accessories that we would need including a propane tank filled with propane. We told him we thought that came with the trailer. He began to shuffle and talk over us. He then lowered it to 695 by removing some memberships but including an inspection by a certified tech. He kept telling us not to be concerned with the price but then said our monthly notes would be between 280 and 300 per month. No word on interest rate or term. I finally asked him how much and he said we would finance $25k and change. I asked him about this price and said that was with 3000 down. I nearly fell off the stool. I told him he was in outer space. I had made a near deal on a Transcend Grand Design which is a larger nicer camper for a little over 25k drive out. Gander Outdoors was asking nearly 29k for a single axle, no slide, bunkhouse trailer. He asked me what number did I have in mind. I told him that we were too far off to make an offer that I would insult him as he has insulted me. He said he was my advocate and would take any offer to his manager. I finally offered him 18000 drive out but we asked what was included? Would we get a propane bottle and an inspection? I finally told him that we were too far off and I got up and walked out. We were about 15 miles down the road and he text us and said they would take $19,068 for the trailer. We told him that they had lost our trust and was not interested. Had we agreed to the first price we would have been beat out of $10,000. I received an email the next day from the general manager and i told her about the experience. I guess it was the salesman’s boss emailed me back and defended the salesman’s tactics. I we ended up buying a 2021 Grey Wolf 27DBH Black Label for $26,000 from a family owned dealer and so far they have been great to deal with. I doubt I will go back to Gander Outdoors for accessories or anything based on my experience. A Ozark 1650 where 25k+ after 3000 down. I would have paid nearly $29000 for this little single axle bunkhouse no slide camper. No thanks to anything from Camper World or Gander Outdoors.
