Cheap Van Life Living Where to Park Overnight on a Road Trip?

Where to Overnight Park on a Road Trip?
I always go to Pilot for overnight camping while traveling. I have been turned away from Love’s for overnight camping at least 3 occasions. Follow the rules and just overnight park – do not camp there long term. Get in late and leave early. Never leave a mess. Never give them any reason to regret that you were there. Hope that helps!

Our Pilot in Urbandale Iowa has stopped the public from. Taking showers. Showers are now for truckers only.

When I still lived in the US, Pilot was the main place I would park. Great people. 😊🚚

  3. Debbie Grooman on July 21, 2023 at 3:05 pm

I always sleep at truck stops. I had no idea any truck stop might prohibit that.

Western side of Texas. Was told by the Loves boss that they never approved of overnight parking, more and more are following that agenda. I’ll try a Pilot or Flying J when going from AZ to Illinois in a few weeks. Thank for the advice. 😎

I’m sorry but I wish people traveling in rv’s would not stay at truck stops. I’m both a trucker and full-time rver, Trucks have a really hard time parking overnight. We can’t park just anywhere. So please be sure that there isn’t another option. Truckers don’t have any options, well some Walmarts but I know you can always get to a campground. When I’m moving my rv I always have a plan but plans can change, just try to avoid taking a truck spot.

Loves is putting in RV Sites. So they can charge you $50 to sleep and leave. 🤨

Spent 3 nights at Petro (east side) near Kingman. Spent 3 nights at Love’s (north side) in Las V, NM. Spent 3 nights at Petro (northwest side) near Milan NM. 1 Adequate parking. 2 Parked alongside a group already doing the same thing (few Class Cs and a few vans and a few cars). In a rented car. Nobody bothered me. 👍

My last trip from MN to California I stayed overnight on the Kansas turnpike. Had a great spot near a McDonald’s, I asked them about staying overnight, they said yes and I was able to use their bathroom. My personal policy is to always buy something from the restaurant or gas station if I use their bathroom.

  15. Sue Smith on July 21, 2023 at 3:13 pm

I’ve heard that pilot is American owned but loves is owned by Arabs , just what I have been told . We always used pilot during our many auto journeys .
Thanks for the great videos , maybe someday I can enjoy some traveling ( with companions ) again .

  16. patricia bandeko on July 21, 2023 at 3:14 pm

As a truck driver I’d like to remind people that truckers are limited in their choices for parking. It’s maddening to NEED a place to park because your legal hours of operation are running out and rv’s are taking up several truck spots. If you can park in a non truck spot please do. Thanks 😊

5.49 a gallon? Sign me up for that! Almost double here in Norway! Around 8.50-9.42 a gallon

And they have Dairy Queen! Lol

  19. Greta Fortenberry on July 21, 2023 at 3:17 pm

    Love’s is our Choice.
In certain areas they do turn people away…not because they wouldn’t love to have you stay but because the areas could not be the best area.
They do it for our safety.
We also like Pilot as well.
BOTH are friendly and have looked out for our best well fair.
We usually buy something for breakfast and snacks for the road.

  21. Skip Degraff on July 21, 2023 at 3:20 pm

I seen 4 truckers pouring piss bottles out the window at the same time before.

  22. Michelle Castaneda on July 21, 2023 at 3:20 pm

There are signs at Loves that say 1 hour parking only. I stopped staying there 2 years ago.

    PILOT and Flying J. ❤

  25. Raymond Herbst on July 21, 2023 at 3:22 pm

Depends on location. No cover all corp policy.
Usually based on truck traffic or anticipated capacity later on. Many times RV’s try to park in prime spots up front, take up too much space or simply park like they’re drunk. Abuse it, lose it.

  26. Karma Matters on July 21, 2023 at 3:25 pm

OMG those gas prices! I thought it was high here at $3.67! I just fainted!

Pilot it is!!! Better food too

  29. Dan the Vintage RV'er on July 21, 2023 at 3:32 pm

Yep. Been at many and we make sure to stay as clear as we can from the truckers, we also buy some stuff and fill up at the pump. Never had an issue. the sound of idling trucks can be comforting at night.

  30. David Leigh on July 21, 2023 at 3:33 pm

I slept overnight at a Sayre, OK Flying J. There was over 100 parking spaces for cars, suv’s, and vans. Also a dozen or so spaces for large rvs.

  33. Jeff SR on July 21, 2023 at 3:39 pm

I see a lot of over night at pilots.. not semi truck variety.

  34. Jeremy S on July 21, 2023 at 3:40 pm

Ues, people need to continuously be told not take advantage of places like this. This why Walmart has done the same every few you can stay at going through central California

  37. GamerDan23 on July 21, 2023 at 3:44 pm

Do you have to ask the cashier for permission if you can stay the night? Or…how do you do it?

  38. Tj Young on July 21, 2023 at 3:44 pm

Agree 100%. Leave it Nicer than you got their. Don’t mess it up for everyone else. and Agree 💯 Loves in the South has Always let me ie SC,NC GA,FL and Pilot has Never told us No either but in the West so.e Loves have Weird Policies.

  39. ydh on July 21, 2023 at 3:45 pm

I’m a trk driver, maybe the reason loves has turned you away is loves are usually smaller, meaning less trk parking. Sorry people. But we trkers are working and need rest. Too all stay safe

  40. Fed up on July 21, 2023 at 3:46 pm

As a cross country traveler, I have slept at the Pilot several times. I park in a space as close to the truck parking in a well lit spot just in case. The trucks coming and going may deter you if you’re a light sleeper but I’ve gotten a great nights sleep right there and saved $100-$150 on a decent hotel room that I was only going to use for about 10 hours max. Thanks for this priceless tip!😊

  41. Cynthia M on July 21, 2023 at 3:46 pm

I have stayed at many truck stops across the country. Many of the policies are changing about RV overnights. In the past year, I’ve been kicked out of 3
Pilot’s and one Flying J. I have not been kicked out of Love’s. I have a small Class C so I can squeeze into a single car space, and that’s what has saved me a few times. Parking spaces are a valuable commodity now, and truckers are being charged for overnighting at many truck stops. My advice is always ask in order to avoid the"knock", ☮

  42. michelle stone on July 21, 2023 at 3:47 pm

All the Loves I have over night at have never turned me out . I have found they all have had propane , rv dump . N none potable water . They also have a dog run area at most of their stores . I also get 16$ showers . I full time in a 20 ft trail lite . This summer I am in Wyoming with my mom and we go to Laramie often . I over night park at the loves .. safe travels to all …

  43. Just Doing Chelle on July 21, 2023 at 3:47 pm

Thanks Bob. Getting ready to get on the road to go southeast. I was curious about overnight at truck-stops. Perfect timing for me to see this.

  44. Kathryn B on July 21, 2023 at 3:48 pm

When was this?!? This is Jan 3, 2023. Is gas really that price???!!!

  45. My Life So Far Vlogs on July 21, 2023 at 3:48 pm

The app TruckerPath is what we truckers use to find parking. A lot of the places have specific rv spots too and most don’t mind cars parking overnight

But where on the truck stop lot do you park? By the store?

    ty bob

  49. Travel Time with Tim on July 21, 2023 at 3:55 pm

Park in the front please. Please don’t take a truck parking spot. They have a hard enough time finding parking for their mandatory 10 hour break.

  50. Chet's Jug on July 21, 2023 at 3:58 pm

In the old days pilot had about six parking places Outback of course now they have much more. Love started out the same way about 10 or so spaces Maybe. But also in the old days pilot was a garbage dump inside and out our company made us by Fuel there because it was cheap but we would leave and go to a different truck stop to eat. Pilot did not have a restaurant only a sandwich counter which they mostly have replaced with Subway. Of course I subscribe to the philosophy that RVs should not be parked there. You can go park at Buc-ee’s or other smaller places and leave the big spaces for the trucker’s they were built for. I keep hearing this argument that RVs by a lot of fuel and should be allowed to park but you have to remember your private vehicle and we are commercial vehicles. The laws are different you cannot park commercial vehicles commercial vehicles in as many places in there is a massive parking shortage
