Some excellent ideas. Great practical advice. That said they seem to be very modern designs, traditional styles such as French, English even Asian designs for interior offer simplistic elegance.

  2. Love Peace on March 14, 2021 at 11:37 pm

Love your videos. Do you think mixing styles when decorating looks all over the place/not attractive? Like traditional and a little glam.

Thank you for your videos, they are so informative. But please explain me, is the focal point something different then the focal wall? You’re saying that the longest part of the sofa should be in front of the focal wall and then that the sofa should face the focal point, wich totally confused me.

  7. Lexia Lockwood on March 14, 2021 at 11:38 pm

This has been done so well Kelly. Julie, thank you for the Focal Point wall. I am still trying to figure out how to fix my oldest sons room ( who has moved out). I think this piece gave me room to imagine. Thanks!

  9. Areté Dance Center on March 14, 2021 at 11:42 pm

do you have a video on how to work with an interior designer? Like what things I should expect to bring to the table, know etc to make the process more fruitful for us both… Things you wish your clients knew in advance, that kind of video?

Thank you for your excellent video – My sofa’s going v soon ! ( I was wondering if you have a vid mentioning artwork up and behind a TV which is left side to the focal window walking in please ? ) LOL Cheers 🙂

  13. Elisabeth Dorothea on March 14, 2021 at 11:52 pm

Thanks for your video! I live in Europe. Living rooms here are really small and everybody I know wants to make it look more spacious! The living room picture you chose is bigger than the floor plan of my whole ground floor 😀

I wish someone would start a company giving advice. I can’t afford a decorator but I could afford for an hour for someone to look through photos and measurements to help me decide how to place furniture in my living space – open to the kitchen, huge area with more angles than anyone can imagine. There’s that space, then there’s bedrooms… weird house design! Surely I’m not the only one with this problem!

  23. Sus Yeung on March 15, 2021 at 12:06 am

I love your design style and would like your opinion on if I should purchase an armless couch (on one side) with a chaise (with arm) Its from (EQ3 – Eve sectional). I have a small living room and figured I can 1. save 5" by having one side armless and 2. have it visually less bulky (by removing one arm all together), and 3. Have it against the floor to ceiling french doors (which overlooks the city skyline) and 4. Use that end almost like an ottoman (ie. just to sit on). What are your thoughts on a unsymmetrical couch in a small living room? Much thanks – its a huge purchase for me and just don’t want to land on the Living Room Mistake. Would love to hear your thoughts

  33. Deborah Cruse on March 15, 2021 at 12:14 am

Julie, so much of what is addressed in decor/styling is for those who are not in retirement age.
Could you please share some decor/styling ideas that address retirement downsizing/smaller retirement homes that would consider possible physical limitations involved.
Many retirees still love the sound and movement of decor/styling. Yet, it is as though we’d no longer be interested in decor/style once retired.
With the majority of those I interact with, this thought is so very far from the reality of what many retirees experience.
Julie, can you help us out… I believe you can.

Never a wasted time with Julie Khuu❤️

Julie love this video. I love to buy local art everytime I travel or from street artist etc. I want to hang it all but now I don’t know how 😂 my style is more boho so maybe it will work .

  36. Seb Xiou on March 15, 2021 at 12:23 am

With respect, the reason that none of your clients ask you to give the illusion of more space is that they probably live in large houses with "too much" space for an intimate (cosy) feeling. For those of us who live in smaller homes, we have the opposite problem. It is not unusual to find living rooms / lounges which are 15-20 feet long by 8-15 feet wide (and there are plenty smaller, too). That includes windows and door ways and, often, walk-through zones between other rooms. The rooms you show would fit many of the rooms I mention within them. Now that is fine, as you are designing for private clients but, by appearing on the global You Tube, please be aware that your (no-doubt) valid generalisations for your clients are way off the mark for the more typical home we have here (UK) – and in many parts of the world. I shall subscribe and continue to watch because I am sure I can learn but I would ask you to either cater for other types of accommodation, else be rather less prescriptive for all. Thank you.

As a fellow interior designer I love these tips! Accent walls are garbage! Lol

  38. Deborah Cruse on March 15, 2021 at 12:24 am

Hi Julie, you make decorating so informative and easy to apply that information.
This is my problem; I’m now aging gracefully and with that comes the physical limitations.
I MUST purchase a recliner ( not a decor choice I’d ever make) for my health and it will sit in my living room.
Please how do I incorporate the recliner into my decor?
The sofa and loveseat are velvet with exposed legs. I want a leather recliner w/o exposed legs….do you have any styling ideas for recliners?
Thank you for ALL your styling/decor advice.

Hi Julie. I noticed on your videos you use mirrors in a bedroom. From a fend Sui point view they
Tell you not to do this as is holds the energy and dreams and can be bad for your health.
Could you advise me as I have a lot of mirrors in my room, eg mirrored wardrobe.

  40. Machine Xp on March 15, 2021 at 12:25 am

I disagree quiet a bit with the idea that you never want your living room to be more spacious. I guess this video is more tailored to large spaces. I can think of many scenarios where you’d want your living room to be a bit more spacious.

  41. PKHOKIE11 on March 15, 2021 at 12:27 am

Commenting mid video because I am LOVING these huge art pieces on the wall!

I have a tri-level home of about 1600 sq ft. Any design advice for designing the family room and living room? The living room is on the entry level and the family room is a level below at street level.

This account is by far the best because hoards people like nice things but don’t understand WHY it’s lovely and comfortable. Why some decisions don’t contribute to that. 😍

  50. Hazel Old on March 15, 2021 at 12:33 am

Sometimes I didn’t know if the photos were showing mistakes or recommendations 🤣.
