Figuring out the cost of my total van build VS what i would have paid for rent over the past 29 months of van life. This cost of van life thing is CRAZY when you compare it to paying rent.

With no yearly property tax either. No brainer. Disco is missed but Cruz is well loved also. You have been blessed

  7. Kate Winslow on March 31, 2022 at 6:37 pm

$23,330 for 29 months rent not including utilities and internet. With those I am looking at $27,840. I just started building my box truck tiny home.

  8. Ollie Henderson on March 31, 2022 at 6:38 pm

Wow! Just beautiful bro, and you couldn’t have picked a better song. Love that little homie!❀

Yeah- I could tell he was just the sweetest boy ever! Love Disco!

  10. Stacking Money on March 31, 2022 at 6:40 pm

It makes more sense to finance a camper van if you cant buy it straight up, than to pay rent.. Your payments and insurance will be cheaper than rent..

  11. DeLorean45 on March 31, 2022 at 6:40 pm

Wow, wasn’t expecting quite such a tear jerker of a video with this one. I can’t believe it has been a year, it feels like just yesterday that I heard the terrible news. I remember just how much of a shock it was. Life really is short, and I guess this is my little reminder of that fact, and my little nudge to get out there and start living my life, too. Thanks for the beautiful video! R.I.P. Disco

I moved out of my apartment almost 4 months ago. My rent and utilities came to about $2400 a month. That’s $9600.

Two years ago when my relatives were calling me crazy cause I was part-timing it in a van. So I said ok, just for that I’m getting my own van and making that my dwelling with or without a home fort. I got it all and van paid off with storage becoming owned this year. Place to park when I feel it or my close family feels it for super cheap. Now they want to do the same, my close family who realized I never was a stone grounded Gal and super excited I have a marriage that grew from vehicle camping that I learned is called Boondocking. So what do those others have that they aren’t paying for? Nothing so maybe that’s why they were so vicious about my plan for freedom? πŸ˜²πŸ€”πŸ€―πŸ˜‚πŸ’―πŸ’πŸ‘ Right on Chrome!! Glad I was a part of Vanlife before I knew it existed, now there’s a whole large family not like minded and respecting Nomad Community/Tribe. I wouldn’t trade anything for what those others wanted for me. πŸ˜‰πŸ€©πŸ§πŸ€«πŸ€πŸ€–πŸ‘πŸ’―

I can’t stand being stuck here in Missouri. Got 3 grown kids but I’ve been ready to move away for 25 to 30 years

  18. Joseph Muller on March 31, 2022 at 6:49 pm

@1:50 that is a very expensive rental!
@11:25 that is one peaceful dog!

  19. Kaprise Edwards on March 31, 2022 at 6:51 pm

And what if you have car engine trouble?

  20. Monsieur Ouya on March 31, 2022 at 6:54 pm

That’s a very conservative estimate. Assuming most people would need a car, insurance as well as their rent you could write off everything except vanlife specific things that you used on your interior. Maybe add extra gas and wear and tear plus a gym membership. You’re saving a ton

  21. Maristella Cedeno on March 31, 2022 at 6:56 pm

Your video of you and Disco brought tears to my eyes. I lost my beloved kitty, Clarabelle, an 8 year old tortie, a day before Disco passed on. She died in my arms at 6:25am. Until now, a year after, I am still grieving. I see her photos everyday on my cell phone and laptop (I have her as my wall paper) so I will never forget how special she was… Rest in peace, little Homie. Say hi to Clarabelle for me over the rainbow bridge if you can. =)

  22. Jimmydown on March 31, 2022 at 6:58 pm

You hit me right in the feels with that one.
You broke my eyes now they’re leaking
Thank you for giving that dog so much love.

  23. Lee Joyce Chung on March 31, 2022 at 6:58 pm

But what is the costs difference if you throw in Gasoline costs over the 29 months renting vs vanlife?

  24. John Cort on March 31, 2022 at 7:01 pm

Thanks, love the videos. Just an old man with health issues love the journey

  25. Kat C on March 31, 2022 at 7:03 pm

  27. Gabrielle A on March 31, 2022 at 7:05 pm

Beautiful video and a nudge that I’m headed in the right direction thinking about buying and building out a van to live in vrs. paying sky high rents. Thank you from Ontario – glad I’m came across your video and gonna be binge-watching your channel now. My condolences for the loss of your travelling companion pup. Heartwarming tribute, going back to the spot you spent better days with him. I have 2 dogs and something in my eye… peace.

$36,250 for 29 months and that’s just my share of the rent for half of the apartment here in Northern California. Add utilities, garbage. Been searching for a van and the courage to start. For $36K, it would have been an awesome van build.

  32. Sandra King on March 31, 2022 at 7:08 pm

What a beautiful tribute to Disco bear

I got to know Disco through your videos as I have been binge watching. You both were blessed to spend so much time together when you moved into the van. So many wonderful memories together. He’s still keeping an eye on you, your own Disco angel πŸ˜‡. Always in all our hearts πŸ₯°.

    Best video yet. πŸ™‚

  45. Carl-Henrik Braw on March 31, 2022 at 7:26 pm

Its crazy indeed but you didn’t mention income, expenses and income is a balance, gotta take that into account as well. If you make less because of living in a van vs what you would have earned living traditionally then it starts to even out πŸ™‚

  46. linda nerney on March 31, 2022 at 7:26 pm

Disco was one of a kind. We loved him.

  47. Raquel Rocky Sanchez on March 31, 2022 at 7:26 pm

I mean no offense to Cruz because he is awesome.

    But I miss Disco.
