DEATH VALLEY National Park in 4K | Full Time Truck Camper Living | Van Life

Death Valley is a favorite National Park to visit during the late fall and winter months. During this trip I hike a trail I’ve never hiked before. The Darwin Falls trail which takes me through a canyon into a desert oasis with a waterfall that flows year round. I also visit Badwater Basin and head to Mesquite Dunes to catch the sunset. But first I show you my free camp within the park boundary in the middle of a Joshua Tree Forest where I had the place to myself.

This is a great film. Artistic as nature is the star and she leads the journey. I especially like how now the films have beautiful music and quiet hikes in a realistic way that still captures the natural beauty.

I’ve never owned a gun, but I wouldn’t be walking around out there alone without one.

I wonder if you were low on salt if you could just scrape some of that off the basin into a container, then boil it down in water to make clean salt? Oh nevermind lol The propane cost of boiling would cost way more than just buying a salt shaker for dollar at thrift store 😛

I think its amazing your so brave to do all this solo. I would be scared to death I would get lost or broken down somewhere.

From what I had felt and observed this valley seems like the real sedom and goomrah,

It seems like it, if you start yo connect the dots,

Which will also that how much on purpose our history has been tampered with by elites

I met my wife in Death Valley during a photo workshop. Even today, we still fight over tripod space for the best vantage point. And, of course, she always wins. We have visited Death Valley several times, and never tire of the beautiful landscape. Thanks for sharing your trip with us.

  28. Hello Polly on May 27, 2021 at 4:35 am

I will never get to Death valley although i was in the USA in 2013.
It doesn’t seem like international travel by plane will be possible due to the Pandemic.
I saw Big Sur on a day trip. Big Sur was very crowded.
    Thanks for this video.
    Cheers,
    Polly from Australia.

What a spectacular place, displayed in an equally beautiful video. I haven’t been to Death Valley since the 1980s, exploring with my own pickup camper. Having spent the last 20 years in the Pacific Northwest, I feel a real need to return to this place of such remarkable natural attractions and wide open spaces.

It’s interesting, that you being a "mature woman"…had never taken any kind of knee injuries thus far. How did you manage to "not have any knee pain" or problems? You look very strong and sturdy. This is a significant gift from God…for sure. Thx Catherine.

You spent "a lot of time on this video"…setting up camera and "walking both into and out of range" with them. Pretty nice stuff.

I bartended at Stove Pipe Wells in 1985 . Is the resort there still open ?

  42. Frank From Upstate NY on May 27, 2021 at 4:48 am

    That….was "a lot of work!"

  43. David Hutchinson on May 27, 2021 at 4:49 am

I was out there in 93 with the Marine Corps. We built a pistol range for the US govt. DEA, DOI, DOD etc. It was a lot of fun. Uhebe crater, Scottie’s castle….it’s a heck of a place. But ALWAYS have water. ALWAYS top off on fuel.

  44. Steve Greene on May 27, 2021 at 4:51 am

    Hi Catherine,

I am a new subscriber to your channel, and am watching your adventures now nearly every night. Your photography and cinematography are outstanding. In the early 1970s, I attended Art Center College of Design, and studied these topics from the top people in the industry, a really fun (and quite challenging) experience. It requires a lot of extra time to film oneself as you do, and then with the post production work that ensues, it is indeed a full time "job" to produce the excellent material that you do.

My first visit to Death Valley was in 1955, when it was contained within the boundaries of Death Valley National Monument (not a national park at the time) … I was not quite five years old on that first visit. My mom and dad honeymooned in the area prior to my entrance as a human, so as a family, we became Death Valley aficionados in a big way. With my parents, I explored a lot of the territory growing up, and as an adult, I have driven much of the total of roughly 1300 miles of backroads within the park and adjacent to it.

It is fun to see you hiking my old stompin’ grounds. I hiked to Darwin Falls in 2004 for the first time … quite a refreshing sight to see the cascading waterfall, and how it splits into two over that big bottom rock. As you discovered, the trail becomes quite challenging near the end, and choked-out due to the heavy vegetation that results from the abundance of water. There are many hikes out here that are so incredible, as you know, a few of which I highlight on my Death Valley hiking guide page: https://deathvalleyjournal.wordpress.com/hiking-guide/
But there are so many more awesome places to hike and explore! Grotto Canyon is also a must-see.

One hike that would be spectacular for you to document is to the summit of Telescope Peak, where you can see both the pit of the Death Valley Badwater Basin, deeper than the Grand Canyon from that vantage point, and then to the west are the Sierra Nevada Mountains and Mount Whitney, a magnificent fourteener.

About fifteen years ago, I created the Death Valley Journal website and blog to help folks learn about the region, but I have not been very good about supporting it in the past few years due to my cross country recumbent cycling adventures that I enjoy documenting. https://deathvalleyjournal.wordpress.com/blog/

I have also written a few books about Death Valley, the most notable being the Death Valley Book Of Knowledge, a seven-hundred+ page book presenting just about all there is to know about this amazing, and isolated, locale. It was published in 2009, after a couple years worth of work. I have not updated it, and probably won’t, but most of the information is pretty much as it has been for decades. https://www.amazon.com/Death-Valley-Book-Knowledge-Encyclopedia/dp/1440126704/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=

Anyway, I am loving your adventures, and admire your talents. Thank you for sharing with us! Many of the locales you are visiting I have also visited over the years, so it is like being there all over again, but without the work, haha. See ya’ …

Stove Pipe Wells was the very first place ever that I saw in Death Valley so many years ago. I was like " I sure hope the hidden corners of this place are nicer to look at than here" LoL…and they definitely were. I am a Desert guy true and loyal, I’ve always been a desert guy. Most of my poetry is desert oriented. I’ll have to drop one of my poems here as a comment someday. I really Love DV every time I go. Like you said "I am the only one here"…I live for that. I tell people there is running water in DV and they don’t believe me. That’s ok, that’s how I like it. DV’s neighbor; Panamint Valley is also A great place to visit and it is where I finally saw an awesome group of Big Horn Sheep in their natural setting for the very first time. At first glance I thought you were in The Mojave Preserve near Cima where the largest Joshua Tree forest exists, however when you said Lee JT Forest I was like , yes for sure. Another great vid …just loved it a "Thumb Up" is not enough to show appreciation. Keep living the good life Ms. Cat. Cheers!

Thank you for sharing, Death Valley is on my bucket list, I had no idea about the waterfall, but certainly know about the sand dunes. You put allot of work in filming your shots, the editing must take 4 times longer than the shoot
