All I have is a small dining area. Have an oval table and 4 chairs. Soon to replace it with a round table. The room from table to wall is 20” . Very small area 🤷‍♀️
    Love your videos😊😊

What’s the best way to incorporate a lazy susan on a 60” round dining table? TIA!

I have cats with claws. How can I not cover my tables & horizontal surfaces? Things get horribly scratched up.

Just started watching your videos and love it all. Your vids are very well organized and offer a lot of great ideas.
I’m downsizing into a home half the size of my present home. Starting to watch your small spaces vids. Would love to get some sources for buffet seating (booth seating).

Nice ideas though if you have valuable China, would a display be too old fashioned?

Is it more practical for Asian families to have round tables, to fit lazy suzie, steam boat pots and other dishes to be shared amongst the guests?

Congratulations on your baby.. glad to know you have resources in L.A hopefully. I have a 1930s dining table that needs to be aligned so that when I put in the extensions it won’t wobble. Any suggestions?

  21. Michael Tutty on July 14, 2023 at 3:59 pm

One thing I noticed with every example you showed is that every single table was a fixed length. For flexibility and appropriate levels of intimacy, a table with leaves, in the middle, self-storing, or at the ends, mean that for small groups the table can feel intimate rather than daunting, but still able to accomodate larger gatherings with ease and comfort. When not needed in the dining room, extra chairs can work as seating in bedrooms, vestibules, and as accent pieces in the dining room itself.

Great list. I am using my dinning area as home office as well. It is at the entrance. The room I keep very neat and tidy and clutter free always. My clients come to sign documents all the time. Very convenient to have the first room as multifunctional space. Love your ideas. ♥️♥️

What if the lighting fixture does not fall in the centre of the table and you hate the swag chain look? My dining room table is a bit wide for the dining space in my new open concept condo. I can’t replace the table at the moment, so I pushed it closer to the wall on one side. It’s only used a few times a year when I entertain ‘the family’ so that’s not a problem, but what is a problem is that the light fixture doesn’t fall in the center of the table. I invested in a 3-light spider fixture that I figured I could manipulate to trick the eye, but the long black rod falling straight from the ceiling off center ruins the effect. My options are no chandelier at all, or perhaps installing it closer to the ceiling like an overhead light (I don’t know if that would change anything). So my question is, is a chandelier really necessary in a dining room? I am not fond of those big arc floor lamps either, not that I could fit one in anyhow. PS. Congrats on the new addition to your family.

Think you covered all 5 basic needs in DR, agree with things you say are unnecessary, I feel scent of fresh flowers centerpiece interferes with food aromas.

  35. Claudia Gonzalez on July 14, 2023 at 4:17 pm

About the artwork or mirror.Does it go beyond the door frame when its a small room or above??? Sourcing video for sure

  36. lina martinez on July 14, 2023 at 4:18 pm

P.s. my new dining room has a place for bar stools on the protruding countertop but would be cluttering with table. I want stools. Want a poker size dining table with swivel comfortable chairs. How does that sound?

Julie, new subscriber here. I’m moving into a high floor Apt and one length of the dining room wall has the city and river views. I have a 6’ X 3’ frame mirror, should it hang on the opposite or perpendicular wall? Thanks.

I loved this video! Super helpful 👍 debating on the rug situation. Its like you need a rug to define zones for living room/dinning room with my open floor plan that doesn’t give me much to show off my beautiful floor 🤷‍♀️

  43. M D on July 14, 2023 at 4:29 pm

These samples are beautiful Julie. Def helps to remind me to be patient when curating my stuff.

  44. Teeksilog on July 14, 2023 at 4:30 pm

hi julie. our dining area looks square but at one side there’s a passage or wide but short hallway going to the backyard. i wonder what shape our dining table should be, square/circle or rectangle? thank you! binge watching your videos and it helps me a lot in reviewing the floorplan of our dream home. it’s like i’m having a 1-on-1 tutorial with you as my lecturer. feels like i’m on a I.D. class.

  45. Barbara Adams on July 14, 2023 at 4:30 pm

Love the clutter free dinning ideas, 😊

  46. Mariah Selena on July 14, 2023 at 4:31 pm

I have small apartment but I choose to have big rectangle table. I know it’s probably way to big but I love big dinning table. Or am I totally wrong?

  47. Michell durbecq on July 14, 2023 at 4:34 pm

This video just confirmed my table is to big and I have to much stuff in my dinning room 😢

  48. Karen Tran on July 14, 2023 at 4:34 pm

Love your videos, don’t forget dining chairs are an investment. They are constructed like a chair so a good one can cost $2000-$4000 a chair ! People never realize how expensive they can be 🙂

  49. Margaret Judice on July 14, 2023 at 4:35 pm

Great video! I agreed with what you said. I enjoyed your other dining table list video. Great ideas! Thank you for sharing!

  50. Adilene Escobedo on July 14, 2023 at 4:37 pm

I absolutely love your videos! I have recently used so many of your tips since my husband and I just bought our first home. However, I was really hoping this video would have different options for lighting. There is a beam straight through the top of our dining room making it difficult to install a light fixture. Would you be able to give me some tips on the best solution?! Would a floor lamp be best? And what kind?
