I was a renter in NYC for years. I did this exact makeover in my kitchen (marble contact paper with peel and stick tiles backdrop). Yes, on pictures it looks amazing. In real life it looks like absolute crap. Cheap, you can see the seam lines.l and even worse with time. You can’t clean the peel and stick tiles the same way you would clean regular tiles, so they either stay greasy or lose their shine and look dingy. Just terrible overall.
I learned my lesson. Don’t invest anything in a rental. Save all the money and buy a place where you can actually make things look nice in real life and it’s an investment for you and your family NOT some make believe cheesy makeover to please a bunch of strangers on social media .

You did that contact paper like a pro! It’s easy to see you’ve done that before. Those peel a d stick tiles … it’s important to keep your grout lines the same width, not just lining them up, when combining tiles. I’ve made this mistake where I could see exactly where each tile ended. I had to redo it to make it more seamless.

I find contact paper way easier if I measure the countertop & cut it roughly to size first with 2cm extra all over in case of error. Otherwise it can feel like wrestling with a huge piece of sellotape that’s sticking to itself . If any stubborn corners curl up, generous application of pritt stick will work😁
