KITCHEN FLOORING IDEAS & HOW TO CHOOSE FLOORING FOR YOUR HOME

What’s the best flooring/ best kitchen flooring material?
It’s time to choose flooring for our kitchen and it turns out flooring wisdom is hard to come by so it can be hard to work out what’s the best kitchen flooring for your home when you’re considering the various flooring choices and different types of flooring in general and trying to decide on a type of flooring for your kitchen. Maybe you’re even wondering which flooring is best for dogs?

Flooring explained
I’ve pulled together some of the useful information and flooring reviews I found when researching the options for our home renovation.

Flooring ideas – which flooring is best for kitchen?
There are some obvious kitchen flooring ideas that almost everyone has heard of but I discovered during my research that there are a lot of new flooring materials coming onto the market too and flooring is an area where there’s lots of innovation.

Some of these flooring ideas are suitable for flooring a basement or flooring an attic or even flooring a garage too. Hopefully there are also some flooring alternatives you might not have thought of whether that’s luxury vinyl flooring, laminate flooring, real wood flooring or epoxy resin flooring. Some of the ideas are cheap flooring ideas / cheap kitchen flooring and are suitable for DIY flooring and some are better tackled by a flooring contractor who specialises in flooring installation.

Please feel free to add your own flooring experiences and opinions in the comments below or even any cheap flooring ideas for those looking for flooring on a budget. Flooring install experiences are welcome too as well as experiences of flooring renovation and flooring restoration. Happy shopping.

I have had several different floor types in my kitchens, I think next time I’m going to go for polished concrete I like the style of it. 🤔

    Hi Georgina,
There are more flooring choices than I thought, so thank you very much for bringing then all together and summarising the main points of each. This is a very helpful and useful video for me at the moment, as a decision needs to be made as to what sort of flooring to use in my upstairs office, and also for the lounge (which currently consists of dated tiles). I think that it may be the ‘Engineered wood’ or like you ‘Luxury Vinyl Plank’ flooring, something that is simple to lay yourself, is also cost effective and long lasting. Now it’s just a case of choosing the right colour….!! Look forward to seeing your floor once laid.
Thanks again for sharing your experiences on your DIY travels.

Superb video , we are still initial days of renovation but still good to think about now

One thing to keep in mind with Kardean/ Amtico is that if you are choosing lighter colours then you might need to do kardean polish everynow and then . The kardean polish is backbreaking work especially if you have a large area. I had a Kardean light grey oak and I had to the polish every 3 month , as the polish would wear of quiet quick and there were ugly marks

My friend however chose a dark walnut colour and she had to polish it only once a year .

So before choosing, get a sample walk on it with your heals , pull a hand luggage over it and look at it in the sun . If it doesn’t show scuff marks you are good to go . Else prepare yourself for some back breaking work

hi great vid. one option you have missed is wet room flooring also known as safety flooring . It comes in all sorts of colours and many of those don’t look clinical or commercial.

    Hi Georgina
Very helpful information. Really appreciate your content.
Can you give some insights on comparison and quality of different brands in vinyl flooring please.
Also a video on under floor heating would be a great help.
Once again a huge thanks for the video

I have luxury vinyl planks and I am tired of the repeat pattern look. It will last for years. Discoloration has occurred at doorway where light hits it. I want a change, it just looks cheap and fake in large rooms.
