Home Depot Fights Shoplifting With New Technology

The outbreak of brazen smash-and-grab robberies and shoplifting is showing no signs of stopping, but some stores are taking extreme measures to stop would-be thieves in their tracks, including Home Depot. Spokesperson Christina Cornell gave Inside Edition an exclusive look at the company’s latest crime-fighting technology, including a shopping cart with wheels that lock if you don’t pay and bluetooth-activated items.

Just let African people to take things for free and raise the price for supremasits to offset the looting of shops.

  2. m h on August 19, 2023 at 6:31 pm

This says nothing about the Hope and Change of letting criminals go free. Prosecuting criminals is the best deterrent to prevent crime.

Another way to track Americans that don’t steal

  4. KaaliMaa on August 19, 2023 at 6:36 pm

Blame the people who feel desperate, and not the greedy corporations who keep raising prices just to get more money.

Ashame on the US and its justice system that handed the bad guys many doors to get away from being “real” punishment from jail time to be prosecuted or suffer consequences.

  11. Richard Morris on August 19, 2023 at 6:39 pm

Insurance will cover it for the store, they don’t want lawsuits. So you’ll pay 120$ for a 20v battery for you’re tools. Just pass it down to you ,the consumer.

  14. Art Seger on August 19, 2023 at 6:42 pm

What it may come to is a employee to walk around with a customer right to the point they drive away. Then they may start kidnapping the employees and hold for ransom. Just get armed guards w/shoot to kill, yeah hire vets.

  15. Susan on August 19, 2023 at 6:44 pm

But the crooks can still just sell the things that don’t work anyway.

  16. Roger K on August 19, 2023 at 6:44 pm

We should go back to mideval times. First offense caught stealing, your finger ges chopped off. Second offense, your hand gets chopped. It is barbaric, but maybe it will be the only way to strike fear into these people.

  20. Stephen Ferris on August 19, 2023 at 6:49 pm

It’s sad it has to come to this

  21. Brian on August 19, 2023 at 6:50 pm

  22. stryker819 on August 19, 2023 at 6:50 pm

  32. Gilbert Dare on August 19, 2023 at 7:02 pm

Sounds like a new challenge for some computer geek to figure a way around the safeguards on the carts. How long will it take?

  33. King Nation on August 19, 2023 at 7:04 pm

Carts that lock aren’t anything new.. none of this will detour crime. Hire more security guards and let them use their non lethal and lethal weapons.

  34. Miguel Anderson on August 19, 2023 at 7:04 pm

    Air tags?

  35. Christopher Tomasello on August 19, 2023 at 7:05 pm

  38. Fred Myers on August 19, 2023 at 7:10 pm

Only happening because it’s being tolerated, same as the gang problems.

  39. NecroBabe on August 19, 2023 at 7:14 pm

Citizens need to rob the thieves. Give them a taste of their own medicine.

Not only do thieves need to be sent to prison, but if your crime is theft you should be forced to work hard labor for the city on roads or concrete structure to pay back the value of stolen items.

  40. Cameron Sarmiento on August 19, 2023 at 7:18 pm

No you just need to be able to pay your lpos more money and get Quality Security and let us have handcuffs and beat the s*** out of Thieves

  41. Dmr45 on August 19, 2023 at 7:19 pm

A lot of these scumbags have something in common……

  42. Team Of One on August 19, 2023 at 7:23 pm

They could do what gamestop does where they have the fake empty cases displayed then the employees give you the real items behind the counter on in this case the back.

  43. Damian9303 on August 19, 2023 at 7:24 pm

1:07 What if they place the cart onto that platform dolly? 😛

  44. Mando on August 19, 2023 at 7:28 pm

Dang home depot has money on technology, But they ain’t got money for better wages. Maybe a better wage will deter thieves since they can actually afford to have a good life. And no $40,000 a year is not a livable wage.

  45. D B on August 19, 2023 at 7:28 pm

i like that a piece of equipment won’t work if not paid for but that also creates another "point of failure" while using the tool over its lifetime, which can sometimes be decades.

  46. Miguel Gaitan on August 19, 2023 at 7:28 pm

Today August 23 and the thief favorite store still home depot.people should line out of the store and get trought a window what they already select and pay online.

  47. eddyvideostar on August 19, 2023 at 7:29 pm

At the time of 1:01 minutes. Locking wheels can be thwarted by rolling lighter stuff on the back wheels. These stores have no solution.

  48. Chess Dad on August 19, 2023 at 7:29 pm

Need those 7/11 store owners with the long stick.

  49. Alan Domagalski on August 19, 2023 at 7:29 pm

Good for them and hopefully other stores follow their strategy

  50. DJPK on August 19, 2023 at 7:30 pm

The problem is law enforcement is too lazy to do anything about it
