Hot Tent Camping – Northern Michigan

Hot Tent Camping – Northern Michigan

Just another hot tent camping trip. This time I loaded up the Black River Sled toboggan with the Smokehouse Outfitter, Pomoly T1 stove, hammock and everything else but the kitchen sink. I had a great time in the red pines. I even did some (rather slow) sledding! Still waiting for that real winter weather though.

Enjoyed the video, I just ran across this glad I clicked the video to watch. I find myself watching this and thinking it would be cool to see a big dog pulling the sled.

What you did looks fun it really does. It looks like you had a really nice tent. What kind of tent is it and where do you get one?

I like your toboggan. A nice comfortable camp you have there. Can you tell me more about your fan near the top of your tent? What model is it and is it worth having in your opinion? why or why not?

Pretty nice setup you have there, looks like a good time! I think we all have that one food that comes along on multiple trips without being eaten 😆. Thanks for the video.

Is that the Timberwolf stove?? I’m new to hot tenting how do you keep heat through the night

  27. Russell Hoag on January 14, 2022 at 3:49 pm

Put some bacon grease in with the cauliflower rice, makes a difference. Be nice to see you as your talking inside the tent, my preference. Kielbasa is good, it is cheaper but so good.

Hey Mark, great video! glad to finally see a fellow Michigander that does hot tent camping here in my home state. Last October I finally got a Pomoly Hex Tipi hot tent. Couldn’t afford the titanium stove. I bought a Knico Trekker stove. I have been wanting to try hot tenting for years now. I’ve been winter "Cold" camping a few times, but many years ago. I see you were on state land, I’ve never tried that before, not sure the best way to find it and not getting lost out there. Don’t know if you already live in northern Michigan? I live in southeast. I have a long haul to get anywhere nice. But I always go north to camp. I had some time off between Christmas and New Years and was planning on heading up north for at least a few days to winter camp. I had a hell of a time trying to find a place to go. Googled my brains out and nothing was clear. I checked state parks that were open all year, National Forest campgrounds. On the State Park website for example for Rifle River Recreation Area, which is open for winter camping, the rustic campgrounds according to the website said the whole park was booked up, which I found hard to believe, I ended up having to call the campground and leave a message and wait for a call back. The modern campground stays open in winter but you can’t camp in the rustic campgrounds (which is where I wanted to camp). The NFC campground that I wanted to try, which according to a book I have, that’s supposed to be open all year. The NFC website said it was closed! So I ended up having to call them also. Very frustrating. They said that campground was open, but the roads aren’t plowed and the campground isn’t serviced in the winter. Needless to say I ended up not going anywhere, spent my time trying to research of where I was allowed to be. I didn’t want to drive 200 miles and 3 hrs. to find the campground gated. Sorry for the long winded comment. take care.👍🏕

Nice vid! When I go winter camping in my hammock, I use my Onetigris cocoon and hammock quilt. I think I would like to try a hammock tent so I can use my wood stove. What tent are you using? Where can I get one?

Dude, you have an awesome setup man. I’m waiting for my hammock hot tent to come in and I’ll be joining you. Kinda wish I had splurged on the promoly but I went lightweight with the wild wild west. That promoly looks like a better build though.
Check my channel out in a month or so and I should have my first run with my hammock hot tent in and up. I subscribed to your channel. Keep em coming.
