House Tour: Our Condemned Victorian Renovation Before & After

House Tour: Our Condemned Victorian Renovation Before & After

Join Laine for this very special tour of our personal home. We took this house from condemned to saved in one year! Built in 1909, this home was lifted off its foundation in 1925, placed on logs and pulled with a team of mules across the block and rotated 180 degrees for its final position.

Your title is incorrect. If your house was built in 1909 then it is an Edwardian home (during Edward VII’s reign 1901-1910). Victorian houses are those, by definition, built between 1837 and 1901 (Queen Victoria’s reign).

Such a lovely home. I am purchasing an old home here in NC and will be doing some restoration in areas. Could you please, please, please tell me the banister design on the stairs. I love it but I cannot find any information. Thank you.

I cannot believe I missed this video until now. I have been following you two for over a year. I love the tours you do of all the Victorian homes in the area you live and of the one your restoring now. This was so great to see a home you had restored and now it’s your home. It is so beautiful. Now that I see this house I cannot wait until Pearl is done.

Enjoyed seeing this after watching your live video today. Great job and I love how you have filled each room with treasures found. So lovely, Laine!

OK. Let me start off by thanking you for letting us into your private sanctuary! I love your stained glass window on that back door. I also love your mural on the side of the stairs. I love the dining room and think that the chandelier is wonderfully beautiful. I also really think the kitchen is beautiful. I like how your blue color has more of a lavender tone to it instead of a grey tone. Thanks for opening your home up to People’s critiques. I do appreciate it! I forgot about the spindle work on your stairs! I don’t know how, because it is perfection!

Beautiful. I fell in love with a 1910 fixer upper craftsman style farmhouse. I do not like the new cookie cutter homes. When I saw the beautiful porch, stained glass door, the wooden floors and french doors, I new I would be purchasing and restoring. So glad I did. I completely gutted inside and out but was able to keep all the original wood and molding. I may be young but I have an old soul. This house is gorgeous, love what you have done. No home should be neglected like that.

Beautiful! So much fun to look at. Thank you for sharing. I’m guessing they blocked off the attic to save on energy in the winter. I had a house with a large attic similar to this and all the heat goes straight up to the attic.

  20. Dougald Blue. Iv on June 3, 2023 at 11:14 am

Great job I really like that home, especially the original light switches.

  21. champagnemommy on June 3, 2023 at 11:17 am

It’s too bad no one on YouTube ever talks about how much things cost. I know there’s a lot of variations depending on where you live and how big the houses etc. but it would be so great to know if for example taking down the ceiling tile and raising your ceiling cost $10,000 or $100,000. I have absolutely no idea about the cost on renovating so how would I ever figure out if I want to do something like that. Is it only for the rich? Or is it actually attainable for other people.

  29. Kelly Price on June 3, 2023 at 11:28 am

Your rescue dog in your arms is a replica of my Harley. He is 13 now and had a seizure this past Christmas. I gave him a low dose aspirin 3 days in a row and he seems to be back to his springy self. We know to value each day we have with him now.

  30. Tarot PR on June 3, 2023 at 11:31 am

What recommendations do you have for retaining the wavy glass in an old house that has leaky windows?

  35. Carole Chetwynd-Bryant on June 3, 2023 at 11:36 am

Such a joy to see a wonderful old house like this restored. Thank you 🙏 for your work and for sharing.

  38. Karen Koeberlein on June 3, 2023 at 11:38 am

Beautiful! i gained so many ideas! I’ve been admiring the mens vest framed. Honestly thought it was a childs christening gown or something. Periwinkle blue is my favorite and has been considered a neutral in my home for paint color. However, mine photographs purple often. I am going to an estate sale tomorrow to see the price of a antique travel trunk but it is curved top. I am second thinking because I love your use of stacking and using also as a coffee table. Your home is so relaxing and my favorite has to be your Master Suite. I imagine you made the cute , pink 1/2 moon pillow on the bed.

  39. Zachary Riley on June 3, 2023 at 11:38 am

Bad news is I’m going to make it bigger to put washer and dryer and water heater and get another old house that I saw just like it little different the owner got a new home to see if he or she willing to sell the old house to put the house together

  40. Zachary Riley on June 3, 2023 at 11:39 am

People now days from the city want to destroy nice vintage homes I don’t like it just because people can’t afford the price to restore to the former glory you destroy the history it’s hurt my heart to see that happen I have one old home when I go to find a job in the oilfield the house is somewhere 115 to 118 years old only I think it’s 750 to 800 square foot it’s needs a lot of work behind the dry wall there are newspaper as a insulation not that much left it’s on my mom and dad property thay me that pice of land for free I’m going to restore it once I get the money to spend for the led test to be safe for safety purposes I’m willing to keep all the wood around the house restore it to put in the home up the sealing and the accent walls

  41. Wendy Wilson on June 3, 2023 at 11:42 am

Your home is stunning. Love your bedroom and bathroom. You have done what we do in the UK with your kitchen. It is a home not a museum and like you I have all the modern conveniences but our units are the more traditional shaker style which are painted a light grey. Our last home had a blue kitchen which was lovingly restored by my husband using Farrow and Ball eggshell paint. You must be so proud of what you have achieved. Can’t understand why people live in new homes when they could live in period gems. We get that in the UK.

  42. Moe Hansen on June 3, 2023 at 11:43 am

You did a wonderful job. The only restoration I didn’t like were the white floors. This was two years ago, I’m going to look through the videos to see if you two did the attic.

  43. Mary Smith on June 3, 2023 at 11:45 am

    Your home is lovely!

  44. Jaden on June 3, 2023 at 11:46 am

I love that you really restored this historic home rather than just cheaply patching things up and making it “modern.” I love that you tried to make things close to how it would have originally looked. it’s beautiful!

  45. Kathleen May T. Surla on June 3, 2023 at 11:46 am

My Mom would love the spaceous outdoors cause she loves to plant and farming.

  46. Holly W on June 3, 2023 at 11:47 am

What a wonderful home you have! Thank you for showing it to us.

  47. Michael Cheli on June 3, 2023 at 11:47 am

Laine. Great Home Save! Alot of work, but you have created a wonderful space to reside in, and your great taste in antiques and collectables really adds to personality to your home. It’s really neat that you were able to infuse life back into a home on the brink of destruction. Excellent job! Thanks for sharing.

  48. Ali-Pop on June 3, 2023 at 11:47 am
