How do you prevent mould underneath / on the carpet? Aside from usual things like a dehumidifier. And how long can you leave the floor for on top of the carpet? Thanks.

Hi, If I wasn’t able to install it by myself, do you have any recommendations who would be able to in the DC area? Or should I try my local Home Depot/Lowes?

My husband and I (both in our seventies) just finished laying 24square metres of laminate flooring on top of our old carpet. Not a problem! Came up looking beautiful and even. The only thing was our sore backs and shoulders!

I am not a fan of the WPC core but its interesting that you can lay it over carpet. Check out this blog for some help on the core materials https://www.reallycheapfloors.com/blog/shaw-luxury-vinyl-plank-gallery-floorte-pro-series/

My baseboards have no clearance should I remove them and install ones higher up off the ground?

  19. Loki on September 7, 2021 at 11:29 pm

I had no idea this was possible, but I’m SO glad I found this! I hate the carpet in my basement and couldn’t find an inexpensive solution. This is perfect.

  21. little hercules on September 7, 2021 at 11:34 pm

  22. La Luna Moon on September 7, 2021 at 11:35 pm

    What about mold?

  23. Lady Duck on September 7, 2021 at 11:36 pm

Question: Why still put the spacers if you don’t remove the baseboards? Can it be done without it?

  24. D.B Cooper on September 7, 2021 at 11:37 pm

As a professional flooring installer I will say this is a terrible idea. Plywood over carpet? The purchase of the plywood exceeded the cost of removing the old carpet. Leave the carpet, leave the smell. This video is pure Snake Oil.

  25. Paul Sanchez on September 7, 2021 at 11:37 pm

So your supposed to remove baseboard and then reattach when finished?

  26. Jason Arrington on September 7, 2021 at 11:37 pm

I have been installing flooring for 20 years. You are out of your mind if you install plank or any type of flooring over any carpet. Lol

  27. Kevin Mogs on September 7, 2021 at 11:37 pm

This is some of the stupidest shit ive ever seen, to lazy to pick up the carpet so lay plywood on top, lmfao.

  28. Torey Young on September 7, 2021 at 11:41 pm

Don’t do it! Too much deflection/ movement will brake the locking mechanism!! Don’t do it!!!

  29. Ti Jay on September 7, 2021 at 11:45 pm

With the extra work and money of buying/using plywood you may as well get rid of the carpet!

  30. Tashima Stanton on September 7, 2021 at 11:47 pm

So glad I found this video !❤️

  31. Tawanna Broadway on September 7, 2021 at 11:47 pm

Could you put the name on the plank in the comment for the thick carpet?

  32. A Bougie Black Girl on September 7, 2021 at 11:49 pm

Thank you so much for this!!!

  33. Jessica Ferossen on September 7, 2021 at 11:49 pm

    Is it works?

  34. Sasha Bassett on September 7, 2021 at 11:49 pm

Can anyone elaborate on removing the baseboards? This video is only so helpful since it mentions you should do that, but doesn’t go over how.

  35. M Herr on September 7, 2021 at 11:55 pm

This is very helpful. We are planning to do this in our basement due to very old carpet. My husband’s concern is moisture that might create mold underneath the vinyl planks. What would you recommend?

  36. Paul Gloor on September 7, 2021 at 11:57 pm

Can a laminate floor damage the carpet underneath ?
I wanna put a floor down in a room in my apartment without risking my damage deposit.

  38. YouTube Girl on September 7, 2021 at 11:59 pm

How do you install on a staircase?

  39. llkleyll on September 7, 2021 at 11:59 pm

Hi. I’m looking to do this project in our living room. We are renting and the carpet is beige, is not as "fluffy" like the one in the video, but neither flat like a office floor carpet. Do you think using just a thick underlayment can I have the firmness to apply the planks? Thanks

  40. e11e on September 8, 2021 at 12:00 am

How do you shut the door if there’s been two layers of flooring added on top, doesn’t that make it too high?

  41. Vraiment vraiment on September 8, 2021 at 12:02 am

What to use to stick the plywood onto the carpet to prevent it from moving or raising?

  42. Lynnporium Art & Decor on September 8, 2021 at 12:03 am

Would 4mil LVT be okay over an industrial carpet (glued down with zero shag or pad) and a bit of unleveled wave to it. Its an old building with an original concrete floor.

  43. Karmita Avila on September 8, 2021 at 12:06 am

THANK YOU, EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR. GREAT!!!

  44. Fletcher Hardy on September 8, 2021 at 12:06 am

I’m a general contractor(not a flooring expert) but the carpet will mold 100% due to the natural moisture in the air. You’ll be replacing the carpet when you go to remove this anyways. Not to mention I wouldn’t want to breath that for any extended period of time. Be careful!

  45. Nandi AtHerBest on September 8, 2021 at 12:07 am

I live in an apartment and is unable to remove the baseboards. Would I still be able to perfect a natural look?

  48. Sassy lady on September 8, 2021 at 12:09 am

what is the brand of the flooring example on the thin carpet? Trancore? Couldn’t find that.

  49. Raymond Chow on September 8, 2021 at 12:10 am

This sounds like a bad idea. Add plywood and planks on top of the carpet. I am surprised I don’t see too many criticisms on this hack. I see 3 big problems:
    1. the baseboards will need to be re-done. People considering this method probably have those short baseboard which means replacement for sure.
    2. room door need to be cut since you you adding more than half an inch to the floor heights.
    3. Transition into other rooms especially areas with existing tile or wood floors. Unless you are doing the entire space, the transition might be weird.

Also the purpose of using this method is to save trouble. Laying down plywood, re-doing base boards and cutting doors may not save you too much time and money over ripping out the old carpet.
