I followed this video using the smart core and proper prep and identical flooring. What I found is that my vinyl floor had dents in it from heavy furniture such as the bed. I often wonder if I didnโ€™t use the smart core would I have the same problem? Love the flooring and installation of the flooring was easy.

Would lack of a vapor barrier cause a concrete basement floor to fail a professional moisture test? If so, do you need to install a vapor barrier and the underlayment? Does the underlayment moisture barrier also seal out radon?

No spacing on the wall you started

That looks too spongy and there is no expansion on these planks.

Bought the Smartcore Ultra Spanish Stone style Vinyl Flooring from Lowes. The contractors who were very experienced had a horrible time getting these to lock. They had to reset the rows several times. Now not even 4 months later the tiles are separating and I have to look at trying to repair all the gaps or just tearing out all the flooring and trying something else. Junk product!

If it vinyl why the phuck do you need a vapor barrier? I just ripped 67 year old solid oak parquet flooring in my rental apartment. It was sitting right on the concrete. No rot or anything. All the apartment buildings were all built like this. Tenants just destroyed it beyond repair and it’s been sanded to many times. Back in the day they just knew what works. This Underlayment is total B.S. to get you to buy crap you don’t need. Total greed.

Low key a Home Depot guy, but I think Iโ€™ll buy my flooring at Loweโ€™s because of this tutorial. Very clear, really professional. You have got a new customer!

This looks like a pretty easy installation — for a squarish type room. But I wanted to use this in a bathroom that has to go around pipes and a toilet. How do you cut this material without a circular table saw?

  15. Zarkon on May 5, 2021 at 3:37 am

Wondering how much it cost for pro to install that kind of large room. $2-$3k?

Better for users to buy and use the pull bar rather than using pieces of the flooring – the way done here will take for ever to complete. A good pull bar will not damage good flooring.

I’ve done these before but I did learn one thing that I’ll use–a dead blow hammer seems a lot better than my framer. I’ve got a floor to do after my next few jobs and I’ll test it out.

This install has taken me far longer than the 15 minute runtime of the video. Why is physics wrong?

  34. Joseph Boyle on May 5, 2021 at 4:00 am

So, what about going around corners? I don’t want to install a transition in every doorway.

Thank you for this video. The trick with using the cut pieces with the block to avoid damaging the tongue and groove on the good panels is a trick I wish I thought of when I did my bathroom

  37. Natedoc808 on May 5, 2021 at 4:03 am

Shoe molding instead of pulling baseboards= lazy scab. Why do the calculation to avoid a thin sliver on the one side, then proceed to use a thin sliver on the near side, ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

What was the purpose of the cross in room as you did not seem to use it.?

  43. Cajunomics on May 5, 2021 at 4:08 am

I was all set to get this type of flooring until I read the comments. I thought this was perfect for pet accidents and water cleaning? Now, it sounds like it could get underneath? What is the best flooring for pets and mopping? Is there a way to seal this this type of flooring to make it more waterproof? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I love how all these peopleโ€™s installation instructions involves them only running it in one room instead of running it into multiple rooms so the installation is as simple as possible

  46. Chad Matejicka on May 5, 2021 at 4:16 am

What is the name of the underlayment that www used it n the video demo?

  49. Dad Materyn on May 5, 2021 at 4:18 am

he talks about installing the transition strip but doesn’t tell where he got it from wtf!?

  50. Jim Reinknecht on May 5, 2021 at 4:18 am

this is a pretty darned good primer actually. Also well done using the table saw properly…. using the fence for a rip and the miter gauge for the cross cuts. … this does not seem to be as horrible as I expected
