How to Replace a Circuit Breaker. EASY!

How to Replace a Circuit Breaker. EASY!

Replacing a circuit breaker appears somewhat intimidating… the truth is once you disconnect or turn off the power to the panel it is well… EASY! Make sure when replacing the breaker you put in what it is rated for. For instance single pole… double pole… 15 amp or 20 amp…

just quick question, 240 volts at energized.
then 148v at non-energized. shouldn’t it be at zero reading?

Thanks, exactly what I was looking for! Question. I live in a townhouse with 6 units. I went to the location where all the meters are. I can’t tell which is mine. Each one has a little plastic tag attached to it but by the numbers on the tag I can’t figure out which is mine. What is the secret?

    Just remember it isn’t the 240 volts that’ll kill ya – it’s the 100 amps! 🤣

  15. TinCanSailor94 on March 28, 2023 at 9:52 am

Glad to see you spend about 3/4 of the video on the most important part – confirming the panel is dead! It’s a big issue on these older panels that don’t have the main disconnect means in the panel itself.

  16. Dee on March 28, 2023 at 9:53 am

The information I needed was what wires go where apparently that wasn’t important for this video 🤦‍♀️

  17. I tried your recipe 😋 on March 28, 2023 at 9:54 am

I have one outlet in the kitchen that doesn’t have power in it. All the rest has power. Nothing ejected in the control panel. I opened the outlet and the wiring look no damaged.
I doubt that one braker need to be replaced but I don’t know which one…
How can I determine which braker needs to be replaced ?

Are all circuits going to be the same when you buy one? Is there anything different I need to know to look for? All I know is it is a 20 (actually right where you changed out) for my kitchen.

Also, I have a large switch that says "main" right above all the others in the box that can cut off everything in house. Is that the only thing I need to flip? I don’t need to go looking for any others right? That’s the one I would flip every time my well pump under house would go out when I had well water. Damn ants. I had to routinely sand the points and then re-prime it. Sorry. Not mechanically inclined at all.

Thanks. I have watched my dad do this dozens of times, but I needed a quick refresher because I have never done this myself. This video was short and to the point, but went over everything that needed to be gone over. I appreciate it.

Hey man I really hope you see this early, hell even at all.. the electrician wanted to charge me $600 to replace my main but I couldn’t afford it.. well 600 for the breaker, plus him having to do insurance, and the rest. Im retired army and since 2020 $$ has been tight so I went and found a breaker to fit.. it’s a cutler Hamer, the main that’s in is a Bryant and I couldn’t find one for anything. OK so here’s my thing. I’ve not began taking it out just yet, I’ve killed all the power. However my tester won’t work for crap, my neighbor who does electrical some told me that after the mains off I’d be fine just don’t touch any wires.top it off I only have one screw, I guess that’d go the same way right.. sorry to ask a stupid question but I survived 7 deployments and don’t wanna go out over this

  40. Saul Ponces on March 28, 2023 at 10:26 am

One question; why did you replace the breaker? Do breakers go bad after a while it have an electric issue that burned it?

  41. groove269 on March 28, 2023 at 10:27 am

Thank you for the video. I have a similar panel with only a few breakers. However, one switch keeps turning off due to the load. The breaker is a single slot, can I upgrade that to a double slot or will I just have to connect items elsewhere so it does not put much load on the breaker?

Big help! Thanks for keeping it to the point. Unlike other 30 minute videos with 25 minutes of a bad comedy skit. Thanks again.

  47. MG on March 28, 2023 at 10:34 am

What if I dont have a main breaker. Can i still replace a breaker with the main power on ?

  48. MAGA MAN on March 28, 2023 at 10:36 am

Nice to see so much effort put into safety. So many videos out there where people don’t even mention the fact that this can kill you instantly if you don’t have the power properly turned off.
