I furnished my entire apartment for far less than this… it’s totally doable! 😀

  2. Angel Franks on May 30, 2022 at 10:15 pm

love this! I grew up poor so my mom would have to dumpster dive and sell the items at flea markets. now as an adult, I’m not even close to poor but I LOVE to dumpsterdive, thrift and yardsale.

Offer up is a great place for furniture and decor. I furnished my whole house when I moved. Love it! BUT, BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN PURCHASING APPLIANCES. TRUST ME!

I did this when I moved out. Took my parents van out for a day to the neighboring big city and raced around beating people to furniture on kijiji. Most expensive piece of furniture was my kitchen table w/ chairs that was $190, cheapest was a microwave I got for free.
I definitely didn’t buy anything with fabric that was my main rule 🤣 If I can’t clean it then I won’t buy it used.

I just moved into a 1 bedroom myself and have bits of furniture that dont really make sense in the space, been trying to figure something out. I think im gonna give this idea a shot!

Wow what a great job. That turned out so comfy looking!!

  9. Emani Wallace on May 30, 2022 at 10:19 pm

Congrats but I would just have to deal with having an empty living room because I am so scared of bedbugs. I rather buy new and have more piece of mind. Also if you do end up getting them you risk infecting attached units that are next to yours.

  10. Lily on May 30, 2022 at 10:20 pm

Oh my god. .. that room is so gorgeous to begin with that i wouldn’t want to cover it up with anything!!!! …

  11. s o m e o n e on May 30, 2022 at 10:21 pm

so yea i can do that but not with the couch, idk i think its rly dirty and nasty. the pther thing we can clean it etc but a couch its moooore difficult to clean

  12. Sevi Regis on May 30, 2022 at 10:22 pm

Great job, everything fits together so well. I’d just add some art and/or mirror on the walls, and repaint the walls, white on top, and a light olivey green or light sand color under the chair rail. Your plants might need some more light than that which is available on that wall.

My rug alone cost 5,000 but worth every cent!

if you live in seattle or another big city, you can find just about anything for free on facebook marketplace and craigslist. we furnished our apartment for maybe $15.

That’s inspiring and environment friendly….good job

  16. Big Baddie on May 30, 2022 at 10:27 pm

85 for that chair is so expensive! We git 2 huge recliner chairs and a 3 seater couch for 75, they’re big and spacious like that chair too, from a non smoking, non pet home

Omgoshhhhhh what is that green color???

  18. Remember Collins on May 30, 2022 at 10:31 pm

You did an amazing job your livingroom looks like a professional designer spent thousands on your room . You have a great eye for everything . I am also a thrifter when it comes to redecorating

  19. Brandi Munguia on May 30, 2022 at 10:32 pm

For future reference, throw pillows and blankets, rugs and things like that are priced great at Ross. I got 2 throw blankets and 6 throw pillows for under $70 this past weekend.

  20. Ruth Anderson on May 30, 2022 at 10:35 pm

Job well done. My favorite piece you got is the console for the TV. I’ve purchased lots of items from Facebook Marketplace (a 39" TV for $100 and a 32" TV for $50) and saved a ton of money. I actually just found a beautiful footstool in excellent condition at the end of someone’s driveway – there was a matching chair but I didn’t need it and it wouldn’t have fit in my car so I left it there – cheap is good, but free is better.

  23. rjkbuny on May 30, 2022 at 10:38 pm

I found similar coffee tables online new at $60-70……

  24. Brandi Munguia on May 30, 2022 at 10:38 pm

I bought a new, to me, couch on fb marketplace and the guy took my old couches and put them up for free, with delivery, on his profile. I thought it was great to be buying secondhand and also to know my old, slightly used (but very uncomfortable for me), couches would not end up in a landfill (at least not immediately).

  25. Rachel Gaewski on May 30, 2022 at 10:40 pm

This was a FUN challenge and like relatively easy?? Everyone should go and do this!!!

  26. Brandi Munguia on May 30, 2022 at 10:42 pm

You could have fit that original sectional you wanted in that space. All you would have had to do is put the longer side against the wall and had the shorter side placed by your front door. Put a sofa table behind it or place a nice throw over the back and get a shoe rack bench for the front of the window and you have just created your own designated and outlined entry way. Would also be a perfect little space for your wicker basket with your yoga mat.

I loooooove thrifting furniture! My home looks so expensive yet half the items are thrifted for damn near nothing or hand me downs 😂 Your goodwill is expensive tho! I just got a gorgeous wooden entertainment stand that I am using as extra decorative storage and lamp stand behind my couch for $15 and a big beautiful lamp to go on there for $6 (bulb included)

  35. Lily on May 30, 2022 at 10:49 pm

I do like green, but the color of that end table would have gone so beautifully with the room beforehand!….

  36. Brandi Munguia on May 30, 2022 at 10:50 pm

I’m curious as to what your rent is. I live in a one bedroom in Fullerton, ca (north orange county) and in my (very outdated with next to no amenities) complex, one bedrooms are currently being listed for between $2050 and $2155 per month for 705sqft. No central air, no dishwasher, very limited storage space and the only lights are in a ceiling fan in the dining room area and in the bathroom. The floors are faux wood laminate and the countertops are also some kind of vinyl overlay on top of wood.

I think you did a great job!

  43. Cat Tobin on May 30, 2022 at 11:01 pm

I considered doing secondhand furniture when I moved out on my own, but I didn’t want to risk bed bugs. I love the idea of furnishing a room for $500 but I’m not sure it’s worth the risk lol.

  44. Grey JustGrey on May 30, 2022 at 11:02 pm

I’am too afraid of bed bugs, head lice and being murdered to do this

  45. Nipstur LLC Brands on May 30, 2022 at 11:03 pm

You’re better off just going to Amazon and buying everything new including a couch you may have to spend more than 500 but it shouldn’t be that much more

  46. charlene brown on May 30, 2022 at 11:06 pm

You did a great job on a budget everything goes really well all together

  47. kristenVEVO on May 30, 2022 at 11:09 pm

half my furniture is free stuff picked up from the side of the road and the other half is stuff that was given to me

  48. Jani Ca. on May 30, 2022 at 11:10 pm

the coffee table and the TV stand are amazingly beautiful 🤩 but the throw pillows were wasted money in my opinion. They were way to expensive 😳

  49. Mary Iorio on May 30, 2022 at 11:11 pm

Your living room is gorgeous now! Bravo! Glad you grabbed that side table even though it was not on your original list. I like your style! That rug really pulls it all together! But, seriously, get all of the upholstered pieces professionally cleaned ASAP.

  50. Sarah Beth on May 30, 2022 at 11:12 pm

I thrifted my whole house and I have too much of everything and spent a tiny tiny amount in all honesty.

I spent like $300 on my living room and I have 2 couches that retail for about $2000, mirrored end tables that retail for $500, a Kirkland’s desk worth $200, an ottoman that retails for $50, a wicker chest that retails for $350, 2 lamps that retail for $80, a big screen tv, tv stand that retails for $300, 10×12 rug worth $200, 6 curtains that retail for $120 and an antique etagere worth like $1000.

So I got $5100 of stuff for around $300.
I spent $24 on curtains, $155 on end tables, $60 on TV stand, $20 on wicker chest, $20 on each couch and the rest of the stuff I found for free or traded for.

I also acquired 3 nice bedroom suits for free and 2 dressers and traded away my industrial fan for a bar table and bar stools and used an old spool of rope as a front porch table and spent $40 on two chairs for the porch.

I spent $550 on the TV’s in my house and about $500 on dishes and decorations and coat hangers and sheets and a washer n dryer and such so I furnished my whole house for like $1300. – or $650 if you take the electronics out of the amount I spent.

So for $650 you can have a fully furnished 3 bedroom home minus TV, washer, dryer or fridge.

I’m really patient and good at acquiring things for cheap or free. It took me like 4 years to get my house just how I wanted it though.
