Interior Design – How To Decorate A Rental Apartment

Tour interior designer and blogger Jacquelyn Clark of Lark & Linen‘s rental apartment! See how she created a bright and welcoming home despite space constraints and get her budget-friendly decorating tips, DIY inspiration and more.

Jacquelyn used rugs to divide the open-concept rental apartment into zones, and created focal points to define the separate areas. A gallery wall with photos of her travels and drawings centers the dining room, while a simple mirror over the fireplace makes a subtle statement in the living room. To save money on furniture, Jacquelyn refurbished family heirlooms with a fresh coat of paint and new hardware. The blogger lives with her boyfriend, so contrasted the apartment’s soft palette with masculine elements, like a DIY bookshelf made of pipes. A wall above the office space painted in stripes is the main attraction in the apartment.

Clever use of space, easy, would bolt a few short planks to the shelves. Nice mix of neutrals. 🙂

  2. Alina on March 7, 2021 at 11:37 pm

It is ALL feminine…minus the book case

Love the stripes on the bump-out. 🙂 Always good to double-check your lease as to whether paint is allowed. If so, go for it!

That’s WITH masculinity infused? Ooooh…dude’s been neutered.

It’s ugly really chunky in appearance looks like a hoarders house! Why on earth does anyone need a bunch of disgusting old jars that serve no utilitarian purpose whatsoever just to sit there and gather dust. She’ll have fun dusting that area, or her cleaning lady will absolutely hate her!

Love it great job and very creative

These are all really cool ideas but nothing beats a crystal chakra strand when making a temporary space yours for a while. A crystal collection that hangs from the ceiling. It is so warm and inviting and takes up no extra space. It also cleans the space with its crystal energy. https://www.etsy.com/listing/549228708/relaxing-chakra-strand-chakra-art?ref=shop_home_active_9

Where did you get those lamps? Thanks

Good job Jacquelyn, truly a stylish, affordable and unique interior decor. Accessories like wall-art, rugs, curtains, cushions, plantations etc do change the look of the room, especially rugs. I bought a rug from http://www.deluxerugsncarpets.com.au and it has created a more cohesive feel and look to my room.

Very interesting. I am definitely going to steal a couple of ideas here. Oh, and to the pricks in the comments section, for god’s sake, stop bitching. This is THEIR house.

Why would anyone want to rip up a real parquet floor?

  22. Insert Name Here on March 7, 2021 at 11:58 pm

I want to turn all the books with the spine facing outward…🤣🤣

  23. Natalie12768 on March 7, 2021 at 11:59 pm

You did a great job of mixing the two styles.

  26. Caroline Y on March 8, 2021 at 12:02 am

  27. Aeri Heirsling on March 8, 2021 at 12:02 am

I like that you can reuse the furniture and the design will travel to the next place.

Grey & white is blah & boring

  29. Hector Silva on March 8, 2021 at 12:03 am

  30. Gayle Bertinelli on March 8, 2021 at 12:04 am

Wow looks beautiful. 1 tip turn ur books spine out pages toward the wall unless u like the yellowed pages showing.

  31. Madd Scientist on March 8, 2021 at 12:04 am

  33. Donna Allgaier-Lamberti on March 8, 2021 at 12:06 am

I really like how you used the IKEA bookcase behind the couch to define a visual "wall." Its like the older type of sofa tables but with lots more storage!

  34. Rg Jhn on March 8, 2021 at 12:06 am

    Love the office wall.

  35. Baby Cakes on March 8, 2021 at 12:07 am

I would rip out the parquet floor as well. As a European it feels outdated to me, plus I don’t like parquet floors.

  36. Emilie Morin on March 8, 2021 at 12:08 am

WHAT COLOR DID ARE THE LIVING ROOM WALLS?

  37. Mandar Dabke on March 8, 2021 at 12:09 am

I absolutely love the carriage coffee table. Where did u get it from ?

  38. Nancy Jane Paige on March 8, 2021 at 12:12 am

Love your space. I did not get this female jean ….how to decorate. I look around and see nothing but brown in my house. I hate it!!! My mother says you can dress yourself so well. What is the problem. I don’t know. I just don’t have it. But I’m going to try. Wish me luck folks. I need it. LOL

  39. Charles Jensen on March 8, 2021 at 12:17 am

I have noticed recently that decorators shelve books with the book spines reversed. Why? For privacy? CMJ.

  40. Wanda Barr on March 8, 2021 at 12:18 am

    Love it

  41. Erin Austin on March 8, 2021 at 12:20 am

Not masculine at all. Boyfriend caved.

  42. Phyllis Arringtion on March 8, 2021 at 12:21 am

looks cold and sterile to me. Not my style. I’m just sayin.

  43. bordab on March 8, 2021 at 12:25 am

  44. Alaa Kassab on March 8, 2021 at 12:26 am

  45. llltlllulllblllellll on March 8, 2021 at 12:27 am

    gee! that’s an ugly apartment!

  46. Urmi Ak on March 8, 2021 at 12:28 am

I disliked this video for a couple of reasons- 1) there is no flow of theme from one space to another, everything looks mismatched. 2) the style is all over the place, from industrial to contemporary to mid-century modern. 2) there is no balance of shapes in any space, everything just seems rectangular everywhere

  47. nycgraphist on March 8, 2021 at 12:29 am

No personality here with the sterile white walls and book spines facing the walls.

  48. murrrmur on March 8, 2021 at 12:30 am

The place looks WAY more feminine than masculine. Big surprise, women got her way.

  49. S K on March 8, 2021 at 12:33 am

No drilling holes and painting tutorials please! It’s a great looking makeover but not at all practical for the broke ass folks like myself!
