Interior Design – How To Live Large In A Small Condo

Interior Design – How To Live Large In A Small Condo

Discover designer Melissa Davis’s brilliant small space decorating secrets!

When Melissa downsized to a condo for her and her son, she didn’t go the typical small space decorating route. Instead, she relied on large furniture to anchor the space and an open-concept floor plan to create great flow. A large dining table that seats 10 has additional seating that doubles as storage. A big sofa centers the living room, while collected art decorates the space throughout. Both bedrooms are kept simple, leaving space to evolve over time. The result is a condo that has all the comforts of a house.

Are those regular 12" deep cabinets over the dining area??? Very nice condo and I love the storage. I am having difficulty with mine. I wish I could hire you but my budget is very very tight. Viewing the videos for ideas. Thanks.

Where did you buy the storage bench from? I love the idea of having a bench double as storage at the same time.

You are a GENIUS! Love your style.

The son has no privacy. He got a bed niche in a corridor.

Living in Europe in a big city, I don’t even get this dilemma, 60m2 apt is considered rather spacious. We wouldn’t even know what to do with a 150m2 house, we would probably rent half of it anyway 😉

I love the credenza! It is absolutely beautiful ❤️.

Outstanding job here. Modern, clean, sophisticated. I am especially amazed how well this designer utilizes this space. One of the best in HH.

Beautiful apartment. You mentioned you’re always changing out the accessories". Where do you store them when you’re not using them?

  9. Kisha Paul on August 2, 2021 at 9:39 pm

Less wife dining table would have been so much better.

  10. Scott Brown on August 2, 2021 at 9:39 pm

I really love this! Creative, light (bright), and fun! Makes 600 square feet look like a million bucks — which is probably what it costs in Toronto! 🤦‍♂️🤷🏽‍♀️😬🕵🏽

That kind of space that you call small is already a big space here in Japan.

  12. supriya shenoy on August 2, 2021 at 9:41 pm

The house looks Soo we’ll put even though it doesn’t have the most expensive items. Such a great space 👏👏

Great inspiration for a condo/apt. I like the cozy and elegant look to this space, it looks so homey and comfortable with style.

  15. Fara on August 2, 2021 at 9:46 pm

It’s still feels chunky and busy imo

  16. jackdawcaw on August 2, 2021 at 9:48 pm

Right, let’s put some vases in front of the tv. I think the decoration is fake and this is not how it normally looks.

  17. Satish on August 2, 2021 at 9:49 pm

Stuffy. That’s how I call it. How can one even reach the wall side of the dining table.

  18. Melissa González on August 2, 2021 at 9:51 pm

La decoracion de sala y comedor com conceptoabierto es bellisima y confortable. Seria interesante ver para la habitacion mas pequeña, alguna solucion para mayor sensacion de amplitud.

Bedrooms look so unique, especially your sons’ bedroom. I loved the dinning room concept.

  21. sojournerhouse on August 2, 2021 at 9:59 pm

It would be very helpful if dimentions of walls and furniture were included. It is very beautiful and functional. A very good video. Thanks.

This is a really great looking space. You can tell that you took your time with it and genuinely LOVE living there. Thank you for sharing!

  28. Tania689 on August 2, 2021 at 10:09 pm

Love the arrangement of furniture especially the large table but I think a lighter floor and lighter cabinets would make it feel so much larger.

  29. Daniel Billingsley on August 2, 2021 at 10:10 pm

They need to visit Planned Pillowhood. Good god.

  30. Shilpa Verma on August 2, 2021 at 10:10 pm

  31. Witnessed It on August 2, 2021 at 10:10 pm

My taste is different obviously, the moment I saw it, I’m like "God, it looks like a cluttered garage".

    Damn…..what an amazing job overall

  37. R Monson on August 2, 2021 at 10:17 pm

I like most everything but the chairs as nightstands. I would be knocking that lamp off of there every day. And it provides no sizable surface or storage for anything next to the bed. Not practical. IMHO.

    Clutter

  39. skaterboy3718 on August 2, 2021 at 10:20 pm

As long as she is happy. I think making the den into the son’s room is well not going to work- maybe if he is super young. But it would be nice if she was alone to have that extra room. I find it a bit claustrophobic with that kitchen but that’s just me. I also think espeically with a kid she needs more storage. The nght tables should be storage, and she needed more storage in her bedroom – monochromatic might help or make her bed and the kids bed one that lifts up with lots of storage underneath.

  40. Rohini Panakal on August 2, 2021 at 10:20 pm

Very very nice but too many pillows!

  41. No Name on August 2, 2021 at 10:22 pm

IT FEELS CLUTTER. so much stuff. In my opinion for a 600 square feet condominium. It does not feel 600 square feet. It feels and look small due to excessive decoration to much pattern for me

  42. Ed on August 2, 2021 at 10:23 pm

Greeat, nice ideas for my next small house 😉

  43. Detlilleregnbuestudie on August 2, 2021 at 10:24 pm

I like her! I really like the way she talks about her home and about the simplistic design she found in her own home. It make me want to take my time to get peaces I love into my home (which is wery tiny, it is 33,20 kvm/square meter, as a whole, I don’t even want to think about how much is the livingroom out of that)

  44. TubnQT on August 2, 2021 at 10:25 pm

Beautifully done!! I recently helped my daughter with her new apartment and we went with a 96” sofa. They could barely get it through the door, but it’s great to have a large sofa in a small area and she loves it!

  45. Rishav Sharma on August 2, 2021 at 10:26 pm

    Small spaces must be white

  46. Prudence Campbell on August 2, 2021 at 10:26 pm

  47. Zhi Geng on August 2, 2021 at 10:27 pm

definitely a bad example for us who live in
small condo like this!dining table for ten?why not go to restaurant?white main color, but use a big wood, yes wood,to block the beautiful warm natural light from that good window。。。。。。come on,where is the design spirit?

  48. Liliane Beeckman on August 2, 2021 at 10:29 pm

    👏

  49. thefilthelement on August 2, 2021 at 10:29 pm

I definitely wouldn’t have blocked off that huge window, but that’s me

  50. ParadoxKismet on August 2, 2021 at 10:29 pm

I love what she has done with this space. Such practical design and storage solutions. Beautiful home!
