We weren’t allowed to paint or hang anything in any apartments we ever rented from. I tried to conandhook a place for our keys. The paint was so cheaply done that it came off the wall paint and all with one key on it.

How do you change a look that you can’t paint walls or anything? They just installed the most hideous take on fecal brown 70’s kitchen crapboards. 60’s commercial grey laundromat tiles. Removed each and every. Single. Convenience. That made the kitchen homey.

They mixed warm and cool pallets. Used grey counters and dark gray/green Lino tiles. Put the refrigerator in the living room. A zigurat pattern in the 60’s laundromat tile. Stark, blaring white basic bitch stove and fridge.

All homey things were removed. Lazy Susan cupboard. A bank of cupboards and counter space.insinkerator. Stove with clock, timer, 2 large coils, 2 small coils down to 1 large foil, 3 small coils, glass door and a console you could stack pans on, gone.

You should see the highlighter colors they painted the hallways. Tennis ball yellow, green, blue orange and baby shit peach poop yellow. Gray molding, brown commercial carpeting and Southern country pictures, pictures of Tuscany and barrister library pastoral pictures. I could go on but it’s already enough to make me just go to bed and sleep my life away.

This building is a more than a nightmare for sensory integration affected people. The 19th century madhouses had better decor.

These apartments were grim but warm and livable. Now they’ve brought the schizophrenic design INTO the apt, there is no respite from it now. This building is an offense to the human eyesight and a blight on the soul that understands BASIC design.

Time for bed. Thank g-d. Blessed unconsciousness.

I rent! Have been since college. I had never thought of these things, especially the hardware! THANK YOU

  35. thiocyanat007 on December 30, 2020 at 3:11 am

I am also renting. The most annoying things are the strange tiles in the hall, but I can cover them with a carpet. What I can’t cover is the color of the doors, this strange brown… if it would be darker, or white, it would be beautiful. But somehow all older german houses have these brown doors 🙁

  36. Adetola Akinnubi on December 30, 2020 at 3:15 am

I just wanna say thanks for getting to the point, all these other decor videos talk too much before getting to the content I came for

  37. Shelly Richison on December 30, 2020 at 3:18 am

Not all apartments will allow you to paint the walls the color you want

  38. Deborah Kane on December 30, 2020 at 3:19 am

    Hi
I have been a "Landlady" for many many years in several COuntries . SO FOR THE RIGHT TENANTS (HARD TO GET GOOD ONES .I allow them to DECORATE ..paiNting ESPECIALLY WITH WRITTEN AUTHORISATION ON CHOICE OF COLORS..THIS BENEFITS THE LANDLORD and IF THEY HAVE THE CHOICE TO SAY YES OR NO TO CHOSEN COLORS. and IF DONE IN GOOD TASTE WILL IMPROVE THE PROPERTY FOR NEXT RENTAL = . higher rent.
AFTER living there a few months, TRY negotiating with the owner re decorating and tell her you are willing to extend the lease IF you can..even better for both parties. . AFTER you prove to be good tenants ( as I was) AFTER proving to be good tenants,, and don’t throw loud parties , pay your rent on time THEN a clever landlady will be thrilled to keep a long term tenan t.( I NEVER left an apt unless in BETTER condition than when I moved on which thrilled my many Landladies (and "Lords"
Now I am a LANDLADY in Costa Rica .after leaving the phony HollyWEIRD scene and the show biz..t had a huge garage sale whittled down my "STUFF" furniture and clothes which trapped me and VOILA within 3 weeks I was living here in Costa Rica. Not the hot humid part as we have many different climates ours is a perfect springlike SUnny but never humid approx. 75deg F. year round
BEING AS I HAVE BUILT 4 COZY APARTMENTS ON MY PIECE OF HEAVEN I ALSO GET PEOPLE WHO WANT TO DECORATE ..NOT OFTEN COS MOST ARE HAPPY WITH MY TASTE BUT UNDER THE CONDITIONS MENTIONED I ALLOW THEM ..HECK I CAN ALEAYS RE DECORATE WHEN THEY LEAVE..NO BIG DEAL AS IT IS MY OASSION AND I DO IT ANYWAY MOST YEARLY.
,MY 3 acre piece of heaven I DYO mostly and transformed a coffee plantation into a successful B&B..with a firm budget in mind..I have main house and moved to gorgeous Costa Rica ina climate BUT as a often moving tenant because of being a struggling actress..I HAD no option but t9 rent those dowdy affordable places BUT believe me I have even decorated in New York, a motel type room by the month CHEAP but talked to management about redecorating the ugly place..with THEIR approval of colours of paint drapes etc.
.Amazingly I got a GO AHEAD>> (After I convinced them they could rent it for double price when I left, ) which was true (I visited them on a trip back to NY and sure enough they LOVED my cozy "room " WHICH THEN LOOKED LIKE A CHARMING APARTMENT. with inexpensive drapes and carpet and marble type contact paper it was their MOST requested long term rental….SO DON’T UNDERESTIMATE OWNERS WE MAY ALSO HAVE GOOD TASTE AND COMPASSION for our tenants who want to improve the rental by re decorating it.
I was often asked for advice for suggestions from Tenants..due to my from my experiences….SO TRY it don’t ASSUME owners will say no… it may work to your favor. we all know what the word ASSUME means? (makes an ass out of you and me ) GOOD LUCK..
Debbie in COsta Rica..OOPS I am using my brand new MAc Laptop and we all know they are far more complicated than WINDOWS,,so I hot a button that turned the text RED..no time to edit now….gottta run..SORRY ABOUT THAT>>LOL I cannot risk losing my long post which some may find useful re RENTAL DECORATING. You will be happier in QUARANTINE if you make your RENTAL prettier,,Good Luck
    thanks for suggestions
