Interior Design Tips: The Best Home Design Trends of 2021

Now that we’ve all settled into the new year, it’s time to highlight some of the amazing new trends that are emerging. Since last year changed so much of our lives with how we live and work, it was inevitable to see many consequential changes in the way we live and work at home, especially. Most would agree… we all turned our focus towards home and how it made us feel. We wanted refuge. Comfort. Warmth.

So this year’s new trends are a direct result of that. And even though we had started seeing hints of some these trends in the last few years, they’re all coming to the forefront now because we all value that feeling of refuge, comfort and warmth so much more.

Take a look and let me know what you think of these new home design trends!

I hate parental/builder beige probably because I grew up in rentals. 😉 I love the wood/nature trend. I’ll fit right in with a collection of rocks from trips I’ve made. Someone shared how Europe & UK decorate in the layered grandma style(?) with pattern & colour. Taxidermy, florals & doilies. Interesting to hear it has an actual name. Thank you for sharing.

Loving the Grand Millennial style! I am a grandma with a several french antiques I can not part with. After deciding to sell our house we recently, updated our home. I took my warm wood toned antiques to the basement living area. I then updated my upper levels in cool greys and stark white. It is beautiful! But…I miss my antiques. Grand Millenial would be a great solution if I just knew HOW to put it together…
Today, we are looking to build a house…country french to be precise. I love the style and hoping to put a modern spin on it that still supports my french antiques.
Would love to see a video of combing modern squared furniture with the curvy lines of stained french antiques such as a bowed Louie IVX bombay chest.

Missed you. Granmillenial fits me with a touch of trad/modern/glam.

  8. Laura Chamberlain on February 18, 2021 at 10:01 pm

  10. teerexness on February 18, 2021 at 10:06 pm

I have a lot of warm fuzzy feelings about the 70s. The music, the girls and the things we did recreationally. The styles and the colors, not so much.

really enjoyed your video and its easy to watch, well done. I am working on picking selections for a new home, any feedback on countertops? Granite is that outdated? Just trying to not make an expensive mistake.

I love the color blue (deep ocean, peacock, and cerulean) but also love the current warm & comforting home trend, and Japandi and Minimal styles. How can I incorporate them together?

  22. DEBORAH OVERTON on February 18, 2021 at 10:26 pm

It seems that some of these design trends are diametrically opposed to each other.

  23. Paula on February 18, 2021 at 10:27 pm

    Love this video

  24. Margaret D on February 18, 2021 at 10:27 pm

Okay! I meet just about all of these new trends: 1. my hair is kinda greige (it really needs a color touch-up — the gray is really encroaching on the beigey-blond); 2. with covid, I’ve definitely added some very unwelcome curves to my body! My cat and dog seem to find them delightful, though; 3. and I’m definitely "grandmillenial" – I’m a grandma who’d love to think of herself as chic …. I’m not, actually, but I like the idea a lot! I think this "antique" will go put on a box-pleated skirt, stick on a hat to cover up the ever-growing gray, lean into my curves, and take the dog for a walk.

  25. P B on February 18, 2021 at 10:27 pm

I love your channel. You are such a wonderful design influencer. Just perfect! I wish I could find a White 2 section curved couch like the one you show at about 2:49 minutes in on your video. It is so beautiful. Thanks for the 2021 design update

  26. Gareth Barber on February 18, 2021 at 10:29 pm

1970’s ugliness makes a return after a period of 1980’s nostalgia (how original).
Looks like the economy won’t recover while this boring muted shite moves on…
I pity the fool who refits their bathroom in avocado!

And Jute, as a floor covering, its like a itchy wool sweater for your feet, and apparently this is stuff that will be bought as lasting homeware!
You do you, but I’m out.

  27. Bettyanne Marie on February 18, 2021 at 10:29 pm

So happy you’re back! You are definitely one of my favorites. You’re presentation is calm and to the point. Looking forward to more of you videos.

  28. Celeste Inman on February 18, 2021 at 10:30 pm

My fav is the ladder. I do enjoy wallpaper coming back and I have been excited about warm colors, such as gold and browns and dried flowers. Some antiques as well.

  29. Stardust on February 18, 2021 at 10:32 pm

I’m so over the gray trend..yay!!

  30. Sara Pawson Herrington on February 18, 2021 at 10:34 pm

I was so delighted to see the final traditional settings. I love them and want to rebuild my house in that style. I have lots of antiques and family heirlooms and enjoy using them in my daily life. Thank you so much!

  31. Peggy Asprey on February 18, 2021 at 10:34 pm

This video is full of great information and your presentation is so organized and intelligent. You do do you (wink wink) – so very very well! I’m re-inspired!

  32. Linda Schulz on February 18, 2021 at 10:35 pm

Hotdog, everything in my house is back in style

  33. Nikki DiArmando on February 18, 2021 at 10:35 pm

I love how beautifully done this video is … the titles and tips are so easy to read just Brava!!!
I do have a question for you .. I have such a strong Aversion or rather an extremely strong dislike to certain designs/trends… so my question is as a designer how do you overcome that especially when that’s the style a client likes?

  34. Just a Friend on February 18, 2021 at 10:37 pm

Nice to see you back!! 😊

  35. Rosehaven Farm on February 18, 2021 at 10:38 pm

Grateful that you’re back keeping us posted on trends. I love a little bit of all!

  38. Jal Ferrer on February 18, 2021 at 10:42 pm

I lived in Japan for 6 years and recently married a European-American. So, you’d think Japandi would be great for us. Although we admire the design style, it feels too bare, naked, and cold at times. It’s great to admire on magazine pictures but just isn’t homey enough for us.

  39. Haydée Skeet on February 18, 2021 at 10:42 pm

Curved Island?? Tell me more! And arches ….I’m adding a wall to an open concept we’re having built. The opening should be about 10-12 ft with 10 ft ceilings. I haven’t seen any arches that big – everything seems to be doorways, would corbels in the corners give the same idea or just a big wide Arch?? I like the idea but I haven’t actually seen it done anywhere so kinda nervous.

  40. Tina Lynch on February 18, 2021 at 10:43 pm

I love the all natural.. jute rugs(I have two), earthy colors, wood cabinets with modern backsplash and countertops, bringing the outdoors in… I love all the trends you mentioned.. I wouldn’t buy a curved sofa(too much of an investment for a trend), but I love your ideas to add curved accessories! Glad you’re back! 😊

  41. SUSAN WOODILL on February 18, 2021 at 10:44 pm

I now know that I want a jute rug….did not know it was called jute . I had been saying canvas . Thank you !! Loved the video, very informative 👏 👍 👌

  42. Hannah Johnson on February 18, 2021 at 10:47 pm

  45. Scott McComb on February 18, 2021 at 10:49 pm

Hello Ms Chickee, I love your videos! Such good advice delivered in such a friendly manner, thank you! My question is about wall paper I also really like the addition of it to a space but lately I had a terrible experience with application. In the past I have been quite successful so it was a bad surprise. I’m not to be deterred though I will try again. Can you please recommend an application process and possible a brand that is more successful than others.

  46. sweetmoon117 on February 18, 2021 at 10:51 pm

I dislike the new trend colors. My faves will always be gray, white and silver.
