As a nurse.. working way too many hours.. I didnโt make it to Home Depot
Windows! What about windows?
In England we call it twee ๐ค ( country cottage )
Home Depot was established in1978. That’s a 40 year wait ‘to be in the right place…’
Ugh! I refuse to go back to the 1980s/1990s. Noooooo! Mauve, hunter green, peach ๐ญ
I feel like I have always had Cottage Core, great video ๐ค๐
Black is the new black. ๐
Although itโs very durable I donโt granite too, but I believe that marble is very soft and get stained easily and itโs not appropriate for kitchens countertops. Guartyz or Corian I think would be a much better choice than marbles. They also have white and gray lines and are so beautiful.
If you won’t do but black granite, then you’re saying marble otherwise? Nothing in between! Need more info!
The moment your personal style English country cottage style is in fashion. And then u realize that the fashion trend is in fact just how you live because you are English in a country property hahaahhaha
Why people assume, that everyone will want to change their interior in 10 years – and I mean totally change it, so you should just do white and be done with it? How marble is a classic and granite not?! Real stone is a classic as a natural material – marble may be as well done and out in 10 year as a trend as any other thing (like subway tiles). And if someone is designing their interior in eg. a french style, why should they have clean-lined mantle? It’s just banch of inconsistent and not thought-out advices.
Sick of gray; looks like North Korea
Repose Grey and white everything needs to die. It is souless and sad. Finally some color!
I’m happy for the cottage trend returning, though I’ve been turning in that direction for the past few years.
Black cabinets, furniture, and walls have been around for several years. Just watch an episode of Fixer Upper.
My personal opinion is that we ought to design our homes according to our own tastes and not be tossed around by every trend that blows thru. I’ve never been an "in style" type of gal.
Have always been drawn to English country house decor. Eclectic, and collected over time.
Cognac is not wine – it is brandy
I have heard Subway kitchen wall tiles are Completely out of fashion! What do you think? Tnx Jenny ๐ธ
Funny…. I never thought black was out…I moved into a new home and bought it because it has a black kitchen!
Cognac is not a wine it’s a brandy from the region of Cognac in France
Sorry black was never out of style
Kirkland’s, Hobby Lobby and Pier I are offering majority of "farmhouse" decor.
Thanks Sarah for this video. I actually like minimalism like Julie Blanner. I see the trends as a way to get homeowners to spend money. I am investing for retirement, and trying to pay mortgage off; so few greenbacks for renovations.๐ก
Love
Cognac is not a French wine, itโs a spirit, type of brandy.
I apologize I did not see this earlier! Best video on trends EVER!
Please NO MORE- Hobby Lobby, Home Goods, Michaels & Kirkland homes that completely lack imagination, let alone QUALITY!
Yes, I am shouting. These stores in my humble opinion are solely responsible for the homogenization of design & decor in homes over the last several years.
Bring on the imagination, the vintage, the antique, the scavenged homes. Homes that have been curated over time & represent the people that live in it.
Thank God that color is making a come back! It never left my home! I have red furniture & odd artwork, milk glass & vintage green glass, pottery of many colors, REAL plants, teal wood lamps, odd tables that don’t match, I mean it goes on & on.
My point? It all works & is lived in & darling & inspired & creative & divine!
Great video Sarah, I have a question about the subway tile. We are getting ready to remodel our kitchen and I wanted to do subway tile but am thinking white grout would be best as I’m concerned the darker grout that is so popular is too trendy. What are your thoughts? Thanks so much
Mustard color = baby poop. Ewww, LOL
I’ve always been cottage style…….ever since I lived in a cottage! I actually live in a condo now, but the floor plan is very conducive to a modified cottage decor and since that’s what I own, and that’s what I like…..that’s what I do!
You are my new favorite show (not just on YouTube but overall) I love your style.
Iโve been looking for ways to change up and add color to my monochrome farmhouse style AND Iโm a thrifter. I just adore your Thrift Store Shopping series however all your videos are fabulous. You are well spoken, captivating, easy to follow and gorgeous! Keep going…. I hope to see you on HGTV one day.
Haha !! I never liked the whites and neutrals and stuck with my warm jewel colors ๐ Now they are coming back, woohoo!!
Welcome to the 1970s, because that is exactly what you are looking at here. It’s the home Mom or G-ma wished she raised you in, if not her actual house. Seriously, get your hands on some decor and design catalogs and magazines from the 70s. This is what you will see.
I know I’m an anomaly but every time I see the floral wallpaper I cringe inside and have to run away. I don’t do florals–at all. Not my style. I have been leaning lately more toward Scottish hunting lodge than English cottage–deep jewel tones, deep woods, leather and if anything floral, maybe an "antique" medieval wall tapestry and a small display of tea cups and real flowers, a more masculine style than feminine. But it’s gratifying to see us finally (Yes God!) get away from the gray and shiplap! If I had to look at anymore cold, industrial gray I was going to pull my hair out.
T
Menards’ also had a RECORD year as well. My husband works in the paint dept. there and it was crazy during COVID! Houseplants exploded as well in 2020. I spent a lot of money on custom Amtigo linoleum flooring in 2001-2002 but I made sure the color was timeless. I chose a medium/lighter toned " sand (raw wood) color and today I see this color being selected NOW in many new homes. We lived in the country (on a sand plain) and had had two large Labs with nails. That is almost 20 years of being "in style." It is a very high quality, expensive flooring and it has held up beautifully! I have have a cognac, leather couch…going on 10-15 years now with a very beautiful back that shows when you walk in my condo!
To much talking
Hi from Arizona ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ
Iโm currently renting a studio apartment, so while Iโm watching this video on repeat ๐, Iโm waiting for the time that I will be able to join your design class…
Have a great day! ๐ฉ๐ปโ๐ณ๐ค
I saw on a video that open concept is being rethought. Now that people are home, they need a little privacy to work. Especially if you have a family that is also home more.
3:30 Gray? Sorry, the 2010s were definitely the decade of the white kitchen!
Your voice is amazing!
What do you think about using the cognac furniture (couch) with blue accents in the room? I’m trying to do some updating.
Very grateful there is no background music in the video. Content was very helpful. Thank you lovely lady!
A lot of this feels very 90’s
Interesting… I’m really loving farmhouse right now but I’ve actually been thinking cottage would go really well in our little home. I loved what you showed. ๐๐๐
Words cannot capture how delighted I am that color is returning to interiors–I can’t stand neutrals, specifically ALL neutrals. It stresses me out and displays a ghastly lack of imagination.
Yes to Cottage Core! Yes to Libraries! Yes to Plants! YES to HUMAN and being comfortable in one’s own home!
But phooey on trends in general. When I decorate a house, I take into consideration the architectural personality of the house and then the preferences and interests of myself and my husband. If there’s a trend that goes along with that, fine and dandy it makes it easier to source dรฉcor. But other than that, I will always vastly prefer personal design over the imperious decrees of professionals.
Iโm finally trendy!!
I LOVE Cognac! My engagement ring has a cognac diamond!
@2:40 that living room is not an example of Mid-Century Modern. Thereโs nothing MCM about it; and I disagree about MCM being comfortable to sit on. Some of it is, and some of it isnโt. That white chair looks like an 80s or 90s design. Iโm 62, and my parents had MCM furniture when I was growing up.
Have watched this a few times. Was wondering what to call my need to use cottage type items in the house like never before. My sourdough starter is my new favorite thing. Thanks for explaining !!! Looking forward to more updates on cottage core ideas.
You’re right. We remodeled our bathroom because we had time to do it in 2020. Home Depot was our choice for materials.
