INTERIOR DESIGN TRENDS THAT NEED TO DIE IN 2021 | IS FARMHOUSE DEAD?!

Nobody asked but in today’s video I want to have a discussion with you. We’re talking about interior design trends that need to die in 2021. Comment down below if you agree or disagree with any of these trends. Some are so obviously dated and some are affected by what’s happening in the NOW. I am so curious to see your thoughts on interior decorating trends in this upcoming year.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!! I hate the farmhouse trend. Everytime I watch a mommy bloggers home tour it is always farmhouse. I want some variety.
And God help me if I see anything Ray Dunn I want to cartwheel out of a window. 😞

  2. Anti_Cults on January 3, 2021 at 12:56 am

I would love to see Arvin walk through a Zgallerie 🤣

  3. Leah on January 3, 2021 at 12:56 am

I’ve lived in both style homes, one with all the rooms separated and my current home with Kitchen, dining and family room open style or together, but the rest of the house separated, I like this style the best and would never go back to every room separate. Don’t listen to trends or you will be broke. I luv my home because it feels like me. My taste is "RICH" if there is such a thing, I buy pieces that look expensive which you have to develop an eye for. A home takes time to come together, have fun with it. Hey, Arvin, those Target ottomans with the faux leather to me they look cheap, sorry.

  4. Shelley Behm on January 3, 2021 at 12:57 am

I agree with all except the formal dining room. We need it for larger family dinners. I’m the one that hosts most holidays.

  5. denisejo28105 on January 3, 2021 at 12:58 am

Yes, farmhouse has too much shit on the wall!!!!!! Great video.

  6. I Anna Campbell on January 3, 2021 at 1:01 am

I could not stop laughing 😂 OMG 😱 Farm house 🏠 had me dying. I agree with you. Why go to the gym the house is weighed down enough and looking at it is a workout 🏋️‍♀️. Z gallery lol 😂 I am over it 😠 also. Get rid of it.

  7. Roxanne Bernard on January 3, 2021 at 1:01 am

At the end of the day, your home should contain what YOU love. Remember paint, furniture, and tile companies, etc make money by making you feel bad about what you own. After spending thousands of $$$ on granite countertops, I’m supposed to rip them out because granite is out and quartz is in? Uh, no. As long as I’m the one paying my mortgage, I will be the one who decides what is in or out in my home! But I did enjoy the video!!!

  8. Ria on January 3, 2021 at 1:02 am

Madonna called and she wants her 80’s black lace gloves back.

*jk I couldn’t help myself. 😉 I used to wear the lace gloves and lingerie tops back then.

  9. Tracy Davis on January 3, 2021 at 1:02 am

Yes, yes, YESSSSSSSSSS to the mirror furniture. I just want to get a "SLEDGE HAMMER" and break "EVERY PIECE I SEE! NO MORE FORMAL DINING ROOMS!!!!

  10. Veronica Rae on January 3, 2021 at 1:04 am

If this video upsets some of you, it’s really sad that someone else’s opinion even gets you mildly annoyed and just shows how unsure you are of yourself and your own sense of style. If you KNOW you have style and your interiors are everything TO YOU then your reaction to this video should simply be “not my thing, but I get it” I’m not sure what’s worse…the fact that you get your panties in a bunch over an opinion or the fact that you cant see beauty outside from anything other than your own preferences (and that goes for both sides of the coin 😉)

  11. Markeshea Porter on January 3, 2021 at 1:04 am

I love you!!! I agree with you on all of it. You said exactly what I have been telling my clients. I use my dining room as a storefront. I hate greige and farmhouse, especially those wobbly barnyard doors!

  12. Karen Feaster on January 3, 2021 at 1:05 am

I love my dining room, even if it’s just the two of us, I love to set the table , light the candles, play some music and use all our pretty things. ( my husband does the cooking)

  13. Bas on January 3, 2021 at 1:06 am

Yes, we need to say good bye to open concept living and farmhouse for sure. Give me walls! I think farmhouse and barn doors have oversaturated the market for a few years now so that’s what I want gone in 2021 👋🏻

  14. Erica on January 3, 2021 at 1:08 am

    😆 man I love you!

  15. Lisa Bellissimo on January 3, 2021 at 1:10 am

I’ve been working on making my dining room more casual and usable for a while now.
And I don’t want to have to read anything hanging on my walls in any of the rooms. Just say no to the signs that say things- You can be grateful girl – Ain’t no reason to post it on a piece of driftwood 😂

  16. Tiffanie McMillan on January 3, 2021 at 1:11 am

Lolol. But Arvin those white subway tiles are permanent. What do people do now that the trend has passed. 🤣🤣🤣

  17. Tracie Danae on January 3, 2021 at 1:12 am

This was EVERYTHING that I needed!!!! So many jewels…"shit all over the walls" and, of course, "Bitch, it’s taupe".😂

  18. Just Justiney on January 3, 2021 at 1:12 am

    Yes! Delete farmhouse lol

  19. Lipstick Legion Craft on January 3, 2021 at 1:13 am

Farmhouse is integrating to Cottagecore and I’m not exactly mad at it. Living for the natural textiles, softer pallet and organic wood pieces. I also think "Farmhouse" gets a bad wrap from all the cliché designs. You never go full Farmhouse….that’s the problem.

  20. Eileen McCarthy on January 3, 2021 at 1:14 am

Is wearing the designer’s tag on the sleeve a thing?

  21. Gregory Pittman on January 3, 2021 at 1:14 am

“Then bitch, it’s taupe!” I died! ALL THE WAY!!!!! You always crack me up! I sooo want to start a channel, but have no idea where to begin!

  22. Shawntél DuTelle on January 3, 2021 at 1:15 am

LMAO!!!! I 100% agree with the farmhouse decor! I’ve been saying that for a long time…girl! You live in an apartment, in the citysuburbs!!! Putting a farmhouse sign, doesn’t make it a farmhouse 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣 but I will admit, I absolutely hate all the golden girls wicker crap too 😐🤣😂

  23. Suzi Hazlove on January 3, 2021 at 1:16 am

Omg, I hated having a formal dinning rm. I use it for craft room. And might be my office soom…

  24. Debra Pepe on January 3, 2021 at 1:18 am

Sh!t everywhere on the walls 🤣🤣🤣

  25. Suzi Hazlove on January 3, 2021 at 1:21 am

I AM SO GLAD the GREY trend is phasing out. A touch of grey ok. But those cool colors suck.
I mixed touch of grey and blue and warm tones… and disagree white kitchens omg no. Like are we in star track? Give me warmth and cozy.
I’m so glad this video is out!

  26. Gina Roberts on January 3, 2021 at 1:21 am

Oh did you have me laughing! I couldn’t agree with you more, especially on the "farmhouse" look with crap everywhere — honestly, a real farmhouse doesn’t have to wear a name tag, "hey, look at me y’all, I’m a farmhouse — I know, I know, I’m in the suburbs of NJ, but my wall says I’m a farmhouse" LOL Also, that greyscale look, my eyes just yearn for one tiny pop of color, but NOPE! This was a great video, and thanks for making it fun!

  27. Debra Pepe on January 3, 2021 at 1:23 am

Arvin, I just love you. Happy 2021💕

  28. Brie on January 3, 2021 at 1:25 am

I am LIVING for this look. Yes, Madonna meets Judy Garland vibes

  29. Muriel Flowers Stone on January 3, 2021 at 1:25 am

Amen, down with farmhouse, love gray, love open floor plans, down with anything with hardware in the title, turn your formal dining room into, a library, study, art gallery or office. Just be yourself ❤️
PS ( keep it neat & Clean!!)

  30. FLOWERCAT on January 3, 2021 at 1:27 am

Farmhouse shouldn’t leave, it should get a modern makeover. The stuff I saw was old farmhouse vs. most of the things I see on Pinterest show it in a better light. I like modern, farmhouse, boho, and minimalistic.

  31. Dakota Velazquez on January 3, 2021 at 1:28 am

Does anyone remember when all the you tubers had all white decor with glass and faux fur pillows 🤨 they tried so hard to make it look classy and expensive but it was the opposite. When I’ve been to wealthy peoples houses they have patterns and big Persian rugs and stuff like that

  32. Annie Loya on January 3, 2021 at 1:30 am

Hahahahaha! “Then bitch, it’s taupe!” 🤣🤣

  33. Jonelle Gates on January 3, 2021 at 1:31 am

It’s funny because you are literally talking about the 2021 trends… these will be out by 2022. It’s hard to keep up with Instagram. In my option do what makes you happy and feel good! Screw what’s cool on Instagram!

  34. Julia Gies on January 3, 2021 at 1:34 am

Arvin, would you say as I do that Farmhouse is overly contrived? I said to my kitchen designer: no more white kitchens! I chose Kraftmaid Bonsai Green cabinets, 4 dark brown open thick shelves, sliver-foil speckled quartz grey countertops that extend up to the cabinets as the backsplash, and Chiffon Lace Oak vinyl wide plank flooring. All finished February 2020, It’s fun to have my new kitchen to decorate during this quarantine. This is the best video ever! I agree with all you said.

  35. Brittany Anderson on January 3, 2021 at 1:34 am

    Yes to formal dinning

  36. JRo on January 3, 2021 at 1:35 am

True talk! I love you Arvin. Happy New Year!

  37. Eddie Mickenberg on January 3, 2021 at 1:35 am

Hi Arvin, my boyfriend and I love your videos! Farmhouse – Definitely needs to go away! But, I get it if you are from the country or live in a farmhouse lol. HOWEVER – Modern Farmhouse is different. One interior designer you like, Studio McGee, is modern farmhouse, including pieces from your own home. It is important to highlight the diffence because I can see why people are confused that you post farmhouse styles you love, but say it’s a trend that should die. I know you know the difference, but when educating your audience, they might not understand the difference. Elaborate on the "Modern" word in the front 🙂 and fuck those signs.

  38. Jen Alcala on January 3, 2021 at 1:35 am

I agree with you 100% You are so classy!

  39. Kaitlin Rae on January 3, 2021 at 1:35 am

    Ouch 😅

  40. Tara Larson on January 3, 2021 at 1:36 am

Hahaha I am DYING because my boyfriend and I are 8 hours into hand laying white subway tile in our all white kitchen as you literally COME for us, and we both just glance over at eachother HAHA. No hard feelings, I like a clean minimal look & would rather jazz things up with some vessels and greenery. Lol!

  41. Anne-Marie Cartier on January 3, 2021 at 1:37 am

FREAK! No wonder kids are so confused! Too much indoctrination in our schools…want us to believe that this is normal!!!

  42. Donna Pecoraro on January 3, 2021 at 1:38 am

I think I have to watch this twice. I’m screaming yes, yes ! at the screen. Farm house just cracks me up. The more words you have on the wall the more farmy it gets? You are 100% right with all because each of these trends become so over used and cliche that it gets nauseating. They become parodies of poor design. Thank god someone said open concept isn’t livable! Omg, I need a space alone! Nothing worse than having to third party listen to a zoom meeting. Personality IS the key! Your home has to say something interesting about who lives in it! And, btw, you’re fabulous and no one rocks a jacket like you!

  43. Val on January 3, 2021 at 1:38 am

I hate open floor plans. Perhaps it’s because I love old buildings which usually have separate rooms for everything. I love separate spaces and it’s especially useful if one area is messy, it doesn’t make the whole house feel messy. I also hate hosting or having people over, I’m very protective of my home as it’s my one escape from the rest of the world, so there’s no need for me to be able to entertain people from all areas of my home.

  44. Nati Munekiyo on January 3, 2021 at 1:42 am

Great segment – well organized and presented – you’re funny!

  45. Lucille A-R on January 3, 2021 at 1:42 am

I am building this tear and my kitchen will he all white no apologies gold handles, matte black faucets silver appliances tge rest will be white white white

  46. Ryan Major on January 3, 2021 at 1:43 am

Watching this as I just posted all my farmhouse decor for sale🤪👏 (and it’s sold in a heartbeat!😂)

  47. W001 on January 3, 2021 at 1:47 am

What I hate most are those typical sterile UK kitchens

  48. sherryp on January 3, 2021 at 1:47 am

Just found your channel and love it. There are so many shit designers on utube and you are amazing. I totally agree with your style.

  49. Suz R on January 3, 2021 at 1:50 am

I just got grey vine 1980s vintage marble and marble vase coffee table with 1/10 price compare to market price. Also 1930 chair for only $8. I love to feel history from them😍😍😍

I’ve never liked subway tiles they remind me of public toilets lol x
