Interior Design Trends That Need To Go!

Interior Design Trends That Need To Go!

In this video, I go over the interior design trends that need to go! These are all my opinion, but I think there are some trends and items that need to die for 2021. 2021 trends are leaning towards warmer colors, and more color in general and this means some trends of the past like the white kitchen and grey living rooms are less popular than they were. In this video I break down the trends and styles that we will see less of in 2021 and moving forward!

This is all lighthearted fun, so please don’t take offence if you couch or style is featured here!

Great video…..I think all the trendy things you picked and discussed were on point especially that double island ….and the reasons why you could do with less of it…makes perfect sense.

  2. Nick Lewis on January 11, 2021 at 1:24 am

I usually try to keep it positive around here, but I thought I’d try something different and fun to start the new year! I usually don’t use the word ugly, but for this video and for some sofas, I made an exception! 😂 Don’t take this too seriously – I love you all! Even if you love kitschy farmhouse! 👩‍🌾👨‍🌾❤️

  3. chemistryflavored on January 11, 2021 at 1:25 am

I think you are spot on with a lot of these! We actually replaced our “marshmallow” sofa (it was gifted when we bought our house) with a new more contemporary sofa and it’s actually way more comfortable since you can actually sit properly in it. Also I love color and have pets so me for the white and grey has never been practical.

  4. R. Whitaker on January 11, 2021 at 1:26 am

I hate kitchen islands. I prefer a nice open space.

  5. Yvonne Bejarano on January 11, 2021 at 1:28 am

Opinions, opinions…most people live NORMAL lives. Confortable is #1. After a long day of work it is nice to have the space to cook, the furniture to fall asleep on, the cleanliness of whites and greys and and most of us dont have thousands of dollars to buy art. Plus I like the kitchy signs, especially the prayers…we like ti thank GOD for everything. Get over yourself. Walk in our $50 shoes every dY….not your $500 ones. Don’t be a snob.

    I love open shelves 😌

  7. Maricruz Orozco on January 11, 2021 at 1:32 am

I LOVE!!! That everything one your list I can’t stand either!! The open shelves!! Don’t get me started!!! 😂😂😂😂 great job!!

  8. San Bleu on January 11, 2021 at 1:32 am

Thank you, I can’t stand puffy chairs and sofas. Then they buy them in burgundy.😄. Tired of gray and farmhouse too.

  9. Kitten Kitten on January 11, 2021 at 1:34 am

Well said! Thank you! You spoke my thoughts! 🥲

  10. Kimberly Conner on January 11, 2021 at 1:36 am

I totally agree with all of these! I’m guilty of having white paint on my bedroom walls, and grey on my kitchen/ dining walls, but it’s just the walls. I use natural wood and vibrant fabrics to decorate the space. I’m also guilty of open shelving, but that’s because I live in a tiny space, and the metal racks from Costco were cheaper than cabinets. But I make it pretty by putting my pantry items into uniform containers. I love the current trend of bright green house plants! I have a bunch, but most are herbs that I cook with.

I would love to see a video on gothy interior!

  12. Niamh Costello on January 11, 2021 at 1:38 am

I hate the grey velvet shiny furniture that people love putting in their ENTIRE room

  13. Antoinette Uzamere on January 11, 2021 at 1:39 am

When he said that but about the puffy sofa, i felt personally attacked! But then i was like… you right…

  14. Krickette on January 11, 2021 at 1:41 am

I grew up in a (real) farm house and currently live in a (real) farm house. And the farm house trend makes me crazy! Real farmhouses are about function, there is beauty as well but the kitsch? No way. When you farm there isn’t enough time in the day to do what is necessary let alone dusting all the knickknacks.

  15. Kim Curnutt on January 11, 2021 at 1:42 am

Love this. As far as open shelving goes, it DOES get dusty. One of my cabinet doors broke. Dust just showed up out of nowhere. I don’t think folks think about that aspect.

  16. Pj Lewis on January 11, 2021 at 1:42 am

This is the most intelligent interior design person I’ve ever listened to (and I’m an HGTV addict/ professional fine artist). I am guilty, however, of wanting everything in my place to be white. But my art "pops" because of that, I think.

  17. Yolanda Costa on January 11, 2021 at 1:42 am

I actually agree 100% and was not expecting to do so, for some reason. The second island never made sense to me!

  18. Maya Anonyme on January 11, 2021 at 1:45 am

Leave the marshmallow behind ! 🥳🥳🥳🤣🤣🤣🤣

  20. Taylor Dean Wilson on January 11, 2021 at 1:45 am

As a resturant Chef and cook of the family and family events I love idea of two island, its also very much like a professional kitchen set up im use to but nicer. I do not enjoy everyone so close to the food prep area, because you want to set out the meal but everyone has drinks and stuff in the way. Plus having the second Island is great clean place to set out food that is ready, or drink station. I think its great for passionate foodies and those who love to cook big meals. But for a lot of people i can see why not so good looking or practical.

For an interior decorator your background in this video is hideous.

  22. Kristen Schoon on January 11, 2021 at 1:49 am

    Marshmallow sofas 4eva!

  23. Sunny Chang on January 11, 2021 at 1:50 am

I’ll see people with an all white room anything and then seen that they have little kids…how do yall keep your kids from writing on the walls? what about food splatters?

  24. marilyn kozlow on January 11, 2021 at 1:50 am

Thank god the farmhouse look is going away. All that word art was triggering!!!

  25. Shannon Gafner-Holmes on January 11, 2021 at 1:51 am

💯 percent agree with you on each point!

  26. Larry Pr on January 11, 2021 at 1:53 am

Thanks I love the video, oh I’m 100% with on the mash mellow sofa they need to go.

  27. Elizabeth Libero on January 11, 2021 at 1:53 am

    I’m sick of stainless appliances.

  28. PalmerWhit on January 11, 2021 at 1:54 am

I live in Europe and can’t imagine a kitchen with even one island.

  29. Linz Taylor on January 11, 2021 at 1:56 am

    Great video!!

  30. Emma Kramer on January 11, 2021 at 1:56 am

My kitchen is so long that we had to split our island in two so the split lines up with the entryway. But I don’t understand the two islands in a more square space.

  31. Fabiola Benitez on January 11, 2021 at 1:58 am

I have a friend that tried to make the gray look in her living room… it looks like jail, horrible

  32. Quick Cooking on January 11, 2021 at 1:59 am

I wanted granite top but it’s way too expensive. So I just made top from concrete and put the granite tiles on top of it. Used the same color grout for sectional.

  33. Karlee Campbell on January 11, 2021 at 2:00 am

    That’s a good philosophy, period!

  34. Melissa G on January 11, 2021 at 2:04 am

I only did fake marble counters until I can afford the real deal. (Trust me.. a major improvement over the laminate that came with the house 23 yrs ago.) I don’t care for butcher block as it stains too easily but to each his own. Agree with you on the big ugly sofas and can’t wait to ditch the hubby’s fat, ugly recliner.

  35. Kristen Schoon on January 11, 2021 at 2:04 am

Anyone else want to try purple cabinetry? Have ideas no budget.

  36. Evelyn Jolliff on January 11, 2021 at 2:05 am

Double island YUK……OPEN SHELVES YESSSSSS non cluttered

  37. macdaddyjill on January 11, 2021 at 2:06 am

Maybe having 2 islands the host can deomstrate how to prep food sorta like those early Emeril Lagasse cooking shows or even a cheesy infomercial selling the latest copper pan 😆

  38. Maria Eliades on January 11, 2021 at 2:07 am

Thank you for speaking the truth on puffy couches and sofas. There’s no reason for them to still be in production.

  42. dobie gal on January 11, 2021 at 2:09 am

I have a "farm house"kitchen. Bottles of penicillin and tetanus vaccines in the fridge, sheep banders on the dryer, syringes on the counter, a pile of fresh but dirty eggs, clean washed eggs on the other side of the sink. Red cell (a liquid vitamin supplement) Jug on the floor. Spray bottle of Clorox clean up ALWAYS by the sink…
It IS a farm house kitchen.

  43. Paige Finnegan on January 11, 2021 at 2:09 am

    Hooray to no open shelving!!!

  44. BillundBerries on January 11, 2021 at 2:10 am

Or you can do whatever the heck you want. Fill your home wth things that make YOU happy and comfortable. Surround yourself with things that make truly enjoy being in your home because it’s just that, YOUR HOME. there is no need to get caught up in trends, get caught up in your life instead.

  48. PM N on January 11, 2021 at 2:21 am

As a realtor I am sooo sick of walking into a house that is grey, grey, grey. Then there are those who will paint grey to prep their house for sale. No regard to cabinets, counteracts, flooring etc., or exterior brick/stone and roofing. They’re thinking that just because it’s grey it’s going to sell, hideous.

  49. Carolyn Wilson on January 11, 2021 at 2:22 am

I wish he would have addressed my pet peeve, how designers put books on shelves in a library. I hate hate hate when I see books on shelevs with pages facing front and the title facing to the back. I thought the whole purpose of having a library was to showcase all your literary treasures, not hide the titles. I wish I knew why they did this. It looks ridiculous, but I would love to know why it’s done this way.
