"James Barkman" – VW Van Life
After cruising out to the West Coast from Pennsylvania in his VW Bus for a photography internship, James Barkman has set his sights on living on his own terms. For him this means perfecting his craft by hunting down photo-ops full time in his Westfalia with Surfboards on top and a Dual-Sport Motorcycle in tow.
*DISCLAIMER: DO NOT CLIMB ON POWER LINE TOWERS. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.
James, 22, might not be as conventional when it comes to his living arrangements, but creating a space to be creative in the form of his Westfalia, has pushed him further than he ever thought he’d go.
Balancing maintenance and repairs on the Westy with a promising career in photography are just a few of the many things the talented Mr. Barkman excels at, and we wish him the best of luck has he continues to grow on his journey.

I ‘get it’ that it’s a 40 or 50 year old vehicle (that was most likely very well-taken care of ‘back in the day’), but if you really want to ruin your vehicle and hyper-accelerate the corrosion process, drive it on the beach. Guaranteed to rust from the inside out in no time.
That LoLo pass shot on the Power Lines was def gutsy

Name of that last song please!!
God bless you brother🙏👍.
Way cool…… if things get slow you can always become a VW bus mechanic
Love this!
This only gets better each & every time I watch this. My absolute favourite mini-doc. To date. ♥️
Good one man, don’t look back!
This guy’s understanding of developing work ethic is what is drastically missing in our generation. With his attitude, he will make things work, no matter what he’s doing. Great video!
Of coarse money is needed to live in this changing world..but u don’t need to be next barren buffet or bill gates to find happy in ur life..be presistant in what u like to do..and gain success in that..one day u have a happy story to tell..
The intro song?? Please need a title
"Sometimes it doesn’t happen the way you want it to, but that’s all part of the adventure"
Just amazing! Great video
You are very wise.
A young man with an old soul.
I met James in Boulder, incredible guy. Proud to say I’ve drank a few beers with him!
what a great movie. you really captured the feeling of his lifestyle.
I wish I could find the name of the intro music. Any help?
keep up your working you re greate
Mate, you can’t just climb a live electricity pylon! One of my photography clients is National Grid the British firm in charge of the electricity distribution network. I got to climb one at the training centre. They have to be fully isolated before it’s safe to climb them. A lot of people die doing what you did. Perhaps cut that bit from your otherwise excellent video. Cheers, Spike (photographer and VW T2 owner 🙂
Change the maf. Lol 😂😂😂😂😂
I’m just about on the same trip as you mate… but I live in the UK, I’m a keen photographer and have nearly 700,000 views on my work.. can you maybe throw me a few tips on how you make the jump from a passion to being able to earn a few pounds from it… my work can be found on Google maps, around apseheath isle of Wight, I’m just finishing getting my shit together and then I’ll be hitting the back country roads all over the UK, my aim in life is to be know for my work especially up in Scotland… peace ✌
meh

Exactly on touch!
My dream ❤️
A tour of the van 1st would have been nice.
One special guy,…very wise beyond his years.
Leap of faith👌
@2:00 and bam, the truth of all truths spoken right there.
Been living life pretty much like this for 71 years with no regrets . I promise it won’t hurt you .
Happy Trails
I am inspired by your independent spirit. "Wherever you are, be there with all you heart." Wise words! Keep going, you’re on the ball!
Great video. I think a Honda Grom would go better with your VW.
Great.

That is my old Bus James, from 1990/91
I can tell because of the damage done to the front end – it was done on the i5 in LA, when a convertible BMW in front of me braked hard .. so i slammed on my brakes – Ps. Kombi campers don’t brake well … and I glided into the back of them. Could only afford to have the front face pulled out. The front bumper was taken off a Kombi wreck I found in the Mojave desert. The new roof canvas was paid for by one of the Aussie girls traveling with me at the time, that somehow managed to fall through the side of the old one, one night while sleeping up there. The Kombi was a joy back then, only Low miles and I paid $1600 for it from a seller in Tucoma WA. I spent 18 months traveling in that bus, so many fond memories for an Aussie on his 1st Safari ! 🙂
very cool! it’s awesome that you were able to make this video too, really expands your portfolio and gets it around the network of photographers 🙂
