How do you make objects like the shelves go higher and lower?
in the future to prevent counters from snapping to slots while using alt, turn on the cheat DisableSnappingToSlotsOnAlt on.

i’m pretty sure that someone has already said this but to stop the counters snapping to other counters there’s a cheat: disablesnappingtoslotsonalt on then hold alt and they wont snap but when you let go it goes back to normal

the sink in front of the window totally makes sense! ive moved a lot, and when my mom would look at a new house, she would always make sure there was a sink in front of a window. it was a make or break small detail.

my dishwasher is on the side of my fridge it’s normal
I’m terrible at floorplans and exterior designs especially with the trees and stuff. I’ve watched the beginner series and it sort of helped me, I did use pictures for reference but once I got to the back of the home it looked honestly horrid. Maybe I’ll learn one day, hope you have a good day.

Have you tried the Collections tool? TheSimSupply used then when he played TS3. You can create your own collections, so you could create a Kitchen Decor collection with items you use to decorate kitchens (not the cabinets, just the stuff found in the decor categories). You could create a collection for bathroom/laundry/kids bedrooms, etc.
When are you going to start showing more of this house???
