Is ‘eclectic’ the same as Boho?
And, I’m also from Van – I’ve heard people say ‘that’s very west coast style’ when referring to some really beautiful interiors around here (lots of raw cut, oiled wood… like jjbean woodwords if you’ve ever been). Is that a style or a mix of other styles?
Ok I’m hooked! As a subscriber of many lifestyle/design vlogs I appreciate ur vid as informative but not insulting. My style is Zen/Modern Farmhouse.
How about the rustic style or agrophilia, which is a more recent trend that can be incorporated into some other styles? I’m purchasing a new space, and I’m going to try and accomplish cozy/ rustic/agrophilia, with a touch of Scandi! Any tips?
Such a great reference guide! I’m a mix between minimalist, scandi and zen. 🌸
Every test quiz I take ends up being traditional, even when I try to be a little contemporary. I’m not against traditional, but I like some contemporary accessories. Thanks.
Transitional? I see it differently than Traditional…more of a modern twist
Great job!! Happy Christmas!! 🎄😊
Hmmm, I like Modern Farmhouse but also Japan/Scandi so I have more thinking to do!
excellent round-up. Would, just warn not to attempt "minimalism" on a budget; It requires high quality materials to not look raw and unfinished. The most budget-friendly option in my experience is boho. Possible to diy, recycle, bring home from travel etc.
Minimalist design absolutely can include items that are just beautiful and not useful. I am a minimalist and enjoy your videos, but this comment really bothered me. My home has beautiful mirrors and framed pen and inks that were done by my Grandfather.
what is transitional style? I keep seeing this on Pinterest! lol
I’d like to hear you speak about "style and location." I live one street "up" from the beach. My "style" reflects my environment … and the City in which I live (Santa Barbara). My neighbor, from England, designed her entire house in a very tradition style … almost "Edwardian." For me, it seemed very odd indeed. I think one’s location (inside and outside) should be a consideration for styling your home. I would not, for example, create a "coastal" style in, say, Amsterdam. I’d reflect the feeling of the City!
I go for zen, minimalist and Scandinavian.
Where does SouthWest style fit in? Or Mission style? Arts and Crafts? Art Deco?
Beauty has a purpose.
How about a mixture of several design styles? I find each style lacking per se, but would love a design that could incorporate boho, coastal, glam and zen. There are elements of each style that I like, and some not so much. I’ve seen some designers make wonders from their clients’ wishes, but then others who could not think beyond and produced poor results. What do you think?
Once again, thank you
P.s would you please do a separate video on transitional style, thank you
I’d love to hear more about styles like Spanish colonial. Midcentury, minimalism, Scandinavian, and Zen are more or less versions of the same style, and may not really be as separate from one another. Personally, none are favorites of mine, though I know it has been pushed by stores and “design” videos. Boho, Spanish colonial, ethnic, and even some cottage, Asian – but the more ornate/ artistic Asian styles than a minimalist version – would be nice. I’ll take a look at some of the other videos- I think you mentioned one about combining styles.
just curious which style or styles do you prefer in your home, Nick?
I recently came across your channel and I’m hooked! You are so knowledgeable and don’t waffle on about unnecessary stuff. Like a lot of people I have been stuck at home a lot this year due to lockdowns and you have brought some joy to my days, as well as some very useful ideas. Please keep these videos coming. Wishing you all a good Christmas, love from the UK x
That was so helpful !! Thank you your so much fun! What a great teacher ! I rarely use things for there intended purpose and have way too many treasures…. I must be Boho BUT NOW I can pull it together with your tips!!! Oddly enough I love minimalist but always wonder HOW DID THEY DO IT??? & WHERES THERE STUFF??
Can you explain Tuscan style? I have very Tuscan looking tile floors throughout my whole house and don’t know how to make it all look cohesive
I’m interested in the Transitional style you briefly mentioned. I grew up in the 60’s and 70’s and can’t stand mid-century modern.
Ecxellent video. How about Arts and Crafts ` Mission? Do you not find this very popular? My condo is almost entirely authentic American Arts and Crafts. Your opinion, please.
There’s one particular style that was left out. Southwest/native
Adobe looking walls, stucco. Native american prints, leather. Beams for ceilings. Turquoise, silver, terracotta, desert influences, early spanish. Cactus plants,
It was extremely trending in the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. I see a comeback, in home design.
Love your videos. Super helpful! So right on with ‘ finding your design style’. I LOVE mid century but recently moved into a suburb of Phoenix. Houses here are cookie cutter… stucco outside, tile inside, no molding, yuk cabinets, etc. I brought all my mid century furnishings and accessories and then realized it totally didn’t go with this house and am selling it all on craigslist. I’m switching to Mediterranean, which although it isn’t my favorite style, it fits this house. Would love more tips to get rid of cookie cutter, builder grade design on a budget.
Is it bad that I don’t think I can survive with just one style? I’m predominantly a minimalist, but I do find it boring at times. I want my bedroom, for example, to be more luxurious and would like art on my walls (but I can’t find anything I love enough to justify the expense). Also love elements of boho (though I would not tolerate an entirely boho aesthetic, as it’s too busy). I also really like Zen but mostly just small elements like the low furniture (great for kids!) and Feng Shui. It’s also so difficult to decorate for Christmas with a minimalist design. Yikes, I’m a mess… haha.
Thank you for that tutorial – great choice of snapshots to illustrate. But what is "Transitional" style? I was hoping you would define it because I see it called out on retail sites and other places but I don’t understand what it is.
Ahh! I don’t fit into these styles! But I definitely have a glam undertone to my decor. I can’t wait to see your next videos so I can have a better idea of my style.
Excellent! Always great to watch – ty.
With all of the brass and moody colors on trend right now– would love to see you explore Hollywood Regency 👌
Great video. I just came across your channel tonight as I was looking for ideas on hot picks at IKEA.
Do you have any videos on transitional style design?
Farmhouse is going out and modern is coming in. I’m seeing more minimalist and geometric patterns in stores now a days
V informative video, keep up d gud work.
How would you categorize Parisian apt. style? An example would one of the great videos from Une fille, Un style. So glad that I found your channel.
What is the Design Style of your home Nick? The room you are steaming from?
Been binging your videos! Didn’t realize you are from Van! Love this breakdown of styles explained.
Very helpful breakdown with lots of examples. I don’t think I knew myself before this video. It is all makes sense. Thank you fore sharing. New subscriber.
Firstly thank you for these amazing videos! Its just what i needed. ❤
me watching this knowing im completely broke and only watching this to help for only my animal crossing home
I’d like to know where to get that table in the farmhouse style that seats 12…I need it!
Thanks! Is it okay to blend styles?
You left out contemporary style
Thank you for your tips… I struggle with creating function and space in my tiny apt. Any suggestions?
Can you do a video on french provincial design? I would love that. Thank you.
This was very helpful! I have ALWAYS been Mid-century Modern – even though I was raised in the 60’s and 70’s you’d think I’d be sick of that style – but married 41 years now – and we have had 3 different homes throughoutour 41 years, I always go back to Mid-century. When I try something different, it’s just not me!
Can you do a video on Transitional design?🤔
I just discovered your channel and I have been totally binge watching your videos, they are great! Quick question, where is your minimalist wall clock from hanging in your background?
Darn, I was hoping to get his spin and advice on Grandmillennial 🙁
Thank you for simplifying these to the common ordinary consumer that I am. 🙂🙂
