N.C. family sues HGTV show for "disastrous" home makeover

A North Carolina couple turned to HGTV’s “Love It or List It” when they decided to fix up their home for future foster children. But now they’re taking the production company to court. In an interview you’ll see only on “CBS This Morning,” the homeowners gave Manuel Bojorquez a firsthand look at the work they say falls short.

Sounds like the contractor is at fault.

    is Hillary in trouble ?

  3. Jim on July 16, 2021 at 3:07 am

Well it is obviously a show for entertainment so scripts, etc. aren’t a surprise. What is a surprise is that the woman "designer" never does due diligence before estimating renovation costs. Every single house has some "hidden surprise" requiring repair and reducing the promised improvements. "Entertainment" people plus a foreign contractor spells disaster. Neither are focused on quality work – just superficial appearances and completing "shooting" schedules on time. "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!"

So the couple payed more for less.

Any person can see that they don’t use normal construction practices…it looks good on film, but look closer!

I always love the people who want a 1200 square foot home with no land and a small budget to turn into 2500 square feet with extra bathrooms and unrealistic demands.

  7. Jc Sierra on July 16, 2021 at 3:11 am

Yes they have the right to sue for the amount that they put into the renovation

  8. Colin M on July 16, 2021 at 3:12 am

You hired a tv company to renovate your home. That is like going to a YouTube video producer when you have a toothache. Obviously you love public attention!

  9. Angela Hall on July 16, 2021 at 3:12 am

    Sorry, you signed a contract.

  10. Ron Goble on July 16, 2021 at 3:12 am

when are people gonna learn….these shows are fake…..my son works for the production dept….they are actors

  11. Joe Feraco on July 16, 2021 at 3:12 am

I’m confused they said they were going to list it so there selling there house with the improvements done to it where’s the scam,if they said there going to keep it then I could see the problem here.

  12. SayaNery on July 16, 2021 at 3:12 am

Not because the show is not real the compromise papers aren’t. Same lawsuits 😂

  13. No One on July 16, 2021 at 3:12 am

This show is heavily scripted? Nah, you don’t say?

You have to be brain-damaged not to know that.

  14. rand49er on July 16, 2021 at 3:13 am

    Well, THAT’S a surprise!

  15. Rob Fowler on July 16, 2021 at 3:18 am

I don’t see how the show is entitled to ANY of the money. They get sponsors to pay for the production, etc. They can not dispute the FACT that they own $55k back to the couple.

  16. Steven Bennett on July 16, 2021 at 3:18 am

Wait…are they saying stuff on television isn’t real? I’m shocked to find that a reality show is scripted. I thought drama just occurs naturally every week at 8 pm Eastern, 7 pm Central. Surely that pawn shop show is real. Everybody knows if you want to hock something rare and antique you take it to a Las Vegs pawn shop because that’s where all the experts are. BTW, a year ago for $140k in North Carolina they could have had the old house demolished and a custom home built.

  17. WIDE AWAKE on July 16, 2021 at 3:21 am

That’s what u get for surrendering control of ur build to ppl in entertainment industry.

  18. Andres Insurriaga on July 16, 2021 at 3:21 am

When something appears to be to good to be true, it usually is.

  19. 🙄 on July 16, 2021 at 3:22 am

Hollyweird; it’s all a facade, but they made their $$$$.

  20. bug on July 16, 2021 at 3:26 am

If you need to take out a 140K loan for renovations you need to rethink your decisions. You’re way over your head.

  21. Judy R Overturf on July 16, 2021 at 3:26 am

    I hate this show…
It is cheesy, and to many corners cut short….

  22. Hister Shellac on July 16, 2021 at 3:27 am

  23. Jc Sierra on July 16, 2021 at 3:28 am

  32. lyn girasol on July 16, 2021 at 3:40 am

And what did you think was going to happen? Should of done your research first….every reality show has no reality

  33. ANGEL HERNANDEZ on July 16, 2021 at 3:42 am

I don’t watch HGTV anymore. If I want to watch a show full of drama I would watch TLC. They’re full of scripted shows. And 90 day fiancé has good drama.

  34. bruce carter on July 16, 2021 at 3:42 am

that couple looks like they’re the ones running a scam

  35. sticker shock on July 16, 2021 at 3:43 am

Waaaaaaiit a second. Are you saying _reality television_ isn’t real and I shouldn’t trust it with my largest asset?!

What next? That nice Nigerian prince isn’t sending me a fortune and that Indian guy who called isn’t actually fixing my computer?!

  41. AmericanPatriot 1776 on July 16, 2021 at 3:49 am

Of course it’s all scripted. If it’s on TV it’s scripted. "New Housewives", "Big Brother", "Survivor", you name it they’re all scripted
including the fights, arguments, dialogue, everything.

  42. Nicholas Corbett on July 16, 2021 at 3:49 am

    Holy spray tan!

Why show this now. Wait until the lawsuit is settled.

  45. Brooke Freeman on July 16, 2021 at 3:52 am

The worst is the travel channel. There’s not one show about travel anymore. Whoever runs programming needs to be fired.

  46. Sandra Crockett on July 16, 2021 at 3:55 am

    Is this a Trump company???

  47. Martha Cable on July 16, 2021 at 3:55 am

The contractors will do whatever they can get away with, especially "pretending " to work. Pay by the hour, they work slooooow, pay by the job, they rush and don’t care how well it’s done. Or this one, tell you materials will cost one price, and you know because you measured yourself, then Call to tell you an amount DOUBLE. I was unable to be there when work was going to be done. Suggested he remeasure and he realized he was caught. Had others, Yankee btw, do the job a few months later, and my measurements were correct. These guys did a great job too. The original guy was going to pocket the extra money or use the material on some other job. This was also in NC.
