NEVER TOO SMALL 46sqm/495sqft Small Minimalist Apartment – Chippendale Home

NEVER TOO SMALL 46sqm/495sqft Small Minimalist Apartment – Chippendale Home

In redesigning this Chippendale warehouse apartment Folk Studio, and interior designer Mariah Burton, stripped the space bare and started from scratch. With the aim of giving the owners a first home they could grow into, she draw inspiration from the things they loved. Extending the kitchen out into a workspace so they could work from home, and shaping a large sofa around the protruding walls. Everything in the home carries a sense of purpose and function from the muted palette to the lovingly restored shutters and doors.

495 for two peoples isn’t small.

We live in a small granny flat and we opted not to buy a TV but get the largest iMac to serve as our tv and workstation. So our sofa faces it too.

I like this design, though i would tweak a few things… Change sink so it’s functional, desk for one chair so i could have an apartment fridge, and add storage below the raised bed because it looks like wasted space…ps and put in a real couch, those white couch cushions look like they would be on the floor quite often..

    No TV

This is just so beautiful and peaceful. I just don’t think that the sofa and chairs are comfortable.

Hello there, the color choice is awesom. Congratulations for the folding-Shutters-divition (bedroom/livingroom!

I can’t help but notice the poor Fiddle Leaf Fig tree , slowly dying in the dark corner 😅

Why does this 490sqf looks like a mansion and my 450 sqf looks the size of a closet ?!

  12. Forever Home on January 5, 2022 at 2:49 pm

They missed an opportunity for storage under the bedroom area

  13. ambery a on January 5, 2022 at 2:50 pm

Beutiful apartament, I love this place peaceful color!♡

  14. tasha on January 5, 2022 at 2:50 pm

This is beautiful. If I was living there I’d prefer to just work on the dining table and put a TV where the work station is but that’s the owners preference. This is the first bed-in-box I’ve seen on this channel that looks cosy rather than claustrophobic – the shutters are great. Also love the little ledge to put coffee on by the sofa – most coffee tables end up being too far away to comfortably use anyway. And the apartment manages to have a decent amount of storage as well.

    I would live here

  16. Mary Sanchez on January 5, 2022 at 2:53 pm

The pillows and cushions on that platform sofa are going to slide right off the slippery wood and become an annoyance needing constant adjustments. They may not want a coffee table to open the space up, but they’ll have nowhere to put a mug of coffee… that little extra bit of platform on the left is in an awkward place and useless for anything but magazines, restrictive to only be able to eat and drink at the round table.

    Gorgeous duvet

  18. Ella Eadig on January 5, 2022 at 2:55 pm

I love how your videos end with like 10 seconds of nothing, just the background noise of the person hanging out in the space. It’s so relaxing, it’s damn near ASMR.

  19. Shannon on January 5, 2022 at 2:55 pm

No way I’m putting my very expensive electronics right next to a kitchen sink. That’s a disaster waiting to happen.

  20. Cath V on January 5, 2022 at 2:56 pm

Is the narrator the client? I get the sense that she is!

  21. Cassandra Ralph on January 5, 2022 at 2:57 pm

    Well designed apartment, 100 percent!

  22. Sherry Ludwig on January 5, 2022 at 2:59 pm

Not at I really care for the layout. Looks like the dining area could be separated from the living room in a way the doesn’t look like the furniture was placed without much thought. I would have opted to find a different sofa and place it looking straight out the large patio doors. I just don’t like the flow but if that’s the way the client wanted it then my opinion is moot.

It’s very nice… but I know that when the decorator says ‘ sustainably sourced’ means it’s not sustainable at all for my wallet 😬

  24. Kristina Ida Elassali on January 5, 2022 at 3:07 pm

    I love this

  25. Bonnie Mullins on January 5, 2022 at 3:08 pm

Beautiful cosy home i could see myself living there. But where is the bathroom and laundry room?

  26. convivator on January 5, 2022 at 3:08 pm

Why do you always use these ultra low contrast floor plans in your videos?

  27. zerosashes on January 5, 2022 at 3:08 pm

I’ve been very curious to see a “never too small”-esque design four a larger home like say 1200 ft.² imagine what you could do with the space? If anyone knows of a similar video/channel I’d love to see!

  28. Patricia Garcia on January 5, 2022 at 3:09 pm

the designer’s voice is so soothing… I was having a bad day and it was so nice to hear her talk <3

  31. T on January 5, 2022 at 3:13 pm

that fiddle leaf fig, needs WAY more light. It should be right in front of a window. Actually, same with the rubber tree.

  32. Jennifer Coralie on January 5, 2022 at 3:14 pm

    Perfect

  33. Kimmy Nguyễn on January 5, 2022 at 3:15 pm

  34. MONICA NEVADO on January 5, 2022 at 3:15 pm

I always watch this because im a legit minimalist and this is exactly what I want. This video helps me with my mental health. I feel so relaxed and happy.

  35. Madeleine Rose on January 5, 2022 at 3:18 pm

Lovely minimalist design, without looking ‘sterile’. I understand that the bathroom was not shown due to it being a second stage renovation, but why was the balcony space omitted? It looks like quite a large space that adds quite a lot of living space to the home. I would have liked to see exactly how it is arranged. It looks as though the balcony is almost entirely closed in, like another room, but without addressing it, there’s no way to tell for sure.

  36. Melissa Palmer on January 5, 2022 at 3:18 pm

The shutters make the space feel heavy and closed off. I would prefer Japanese style sliding screens. The sofa looks very uncomfortable as well. I’d rather curl up into something plush and cozy after a hard day at work. Other than those, I like the flow of the space.

  37. Xandruuh on January 5, 2022 at 3:18 pm

    Super love this 💓

  38. Ana hoho on January 5, 2022 at 3:19 pm

they could put wall projector screen above the shutters that can roll up n down whenever they want to watch movies from a projector

  39. moomoo radish on January 5, 2022 at 3:19 pm

I want to see the bathroom

  40. ARL Art Gallery on January 5, 2022 at 3:19 pm

Sofa looks SO UNCOMFORTABLE. Her voice is extremely annoying, she should drop the vocal fry..

  41. hiba syed on January 5, 2022 at 3:20 pm

    Beautiful house!
Just an idea, how about shifting the whole kitchen unit into the balcony

  42. Rhymney Bells on January 5, 2022 at 3:21 pm

    And they didn’t want a tv…good on them 👍🏼

  43. Maria.56 GndE.K on January 5, 2022 at 3:21 pm

I really liked your opinion that you made at the end, the remodeling of the spaces that are already in the city is a sustainable way to reuse with personal adaptation, I had not thought about it before. I feel that the apartment has a lot of comfort and functionality due to the forgiven furniture, thanks for the video.

  44. Claire Cakes on January 5, 2022 at 3:22 pm

I like the space but the fiddle leaf fig needs to at least be closer to the window, if not outside. Its dying from lack of sun.

  45. Connie Pleasant on January 5, 2022 at 3:23 pm

    What a lovely space 🤍
