Located in the bustling Seo-cho district of Seoul, the aptly named Seoul Seocho Studio was meticulously transformed by designer Pil Jung from Korean architectural firm Mies & Louis. The biggest change being the addition of a single custom built floor-to-ceiling storage piece that stretches from one end of the studio to the other and containing all the studio’s storage including laundry facilities, a styler, an entertainment unit as well as an office. Two sliding doors, one made from vibration finish stainless steel and one from slatted walnut inspired by the traditional Korean Gan-Sal doors, cover the entertainment unit and can be moved along the length of the storage unit. The Gan-sal door theme continues into the bedroom where a slatted walnut partition divides the bedroom from the living area whilst still allowing light and air to flow through. Through careful design Jung has created a unique inner city sanctuary for his client.

Very nice! Great work of the designer. But why do not hide ugly washing machines with some doors?

I’ve been thinking to make my South African apartment I bought 6 months ago the same design as a Korean apartment, like the one in this video…I love South Korean design 👍🏻👍🏻

Such a cosy living space very nicely designed <3

  11. Maiasatara on June 6, 2023 at 1:45 pm

Sad when one realizes that an apartment so clean, simple and functional is likely EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE. So beaitifil – especially the sliding doors and gold/blue accents. Thoughtful. I could move in tomorrow…with a couch lol.

I really like this… Have you studied WHY American culture has so much "stuff"? I like modern futuristic design… Being in the heart of Seoul, I would think that it would be cheaper to eat ‘out’?? Less waste, no leftovers… Making salads, vegetables, broiled fish or chicken would be easy to make at home… What would you suggest for Americans to simplify their lives? What mistakes do most Americans make teaching their children to minimize their lifestyle? I love the sliding screens! They are like "pocket doors"! Thank you…

I like this apartment best because it represents most modern building layouts that we have in big cities right now. I know too many friends who live in this exact kind of home. Long rooms with only one window. This design made use of all the space while making it look homey and not cramped. However, we really need to force real estate conglomerates to stop making these type of homes as it’s really not ideal for anyone.

  14. ilMamo on June 6, 2023 at 1:48 pm

Finally an apartment where people actually seem to cook and not eat out or have delivery every single day. Such a boring life.

  15. Kealani on June 6, 2023 at 1:52 pm

Final point is very pertinent — we must make ggod use of what already exists. Thank you for showing this efficient apartment.

This is brilliant and the design saves a lot of space. This explains the bigger is not always the better.

I would LOVE 45 sq meters!!

  22. Rairakku Mushi on June 6, 2023 at 2:01 pm

I love my small space. I honestly am not even sure I Want to move into my Mom’s three bedroom plus den apartment with giant wrap around deck when she passes. 😂 Except the gardening space would be nice.
I’ll probably end up renting out the extra bedrooms!

This architect’s work is really good
I love the panels, the slats and the spacious cupboards

  25. Shirley Druyeh on June 6, 2023 at 2:02 pm

The amount of storage this place has is fantastic. That’s the biggest issue with studios when it comes to liveability, it can get really messy if you don’t have enough storage.

한국에도 좋은 건축가랑 디자이너 많아요. 더 많이 다뤄주세요. 🙂

  27. Darim J on June 6, 2023 at 2:04 pm

This is beautiful. I would love a place to sit and eat like at the island

  29. John Colvin on June 6, 2023 at 2:05 pm

Part of our startup each day is to sit up in bed with a favourite coffee, and watch a video from our Youtube "Architecture" folder. When the video ends, we move it to either "Architecture – Yes", or "Architecture – No".
The "Architecture – No" folder contains hundreds of videos… the "Architecture – Yes" folder contains only a handful, and it now includes this delightful production. That is a wonderfully empathetic design, thank you for sharing it with us.

    Funcional y cálido , gracias a las plantas y los " detalles " en madera .

  40. Stacia Kristanto on June 6, 2023 at 2:19 pm

Love this! Definitely functional and calming! Very cozy, clean, warm and easy to maintain!

  41. See Thao on June 6, 2023 at 2:21 pm

Love this! South Korean apartments always had harsh overhead lighting and the use of ambient lighting was perfect. I hope this trend catches on there.

  42. Maja Trifunovic on June 6, 2023 at 2:21 pm

    I like this

  43. Barbara r on June 6, 2023 at 2:21 pm

This is simple yet incredibly chic. It’s obviously well thought out and designed by a professional, but it’s not over designed. I love those sliding wooden doors. The only thing missing for me would be a comfy couch which I would use a lot even when living alone.

  44. O'Seas Viewer on June 6, 2023 at 2:21 pm

This is one of very few design concepts that I could relate to – usually the aesthetics don’t translate adequately to function. This designer presented seamless, low maintenance functional access to all amenities. The only addition I personally prefer is a balcony for access to outdoor space.

  45. starsmoon0216 on June 6, 2023 at 2:23 pm

Very clever design. I love the storage ideas!,,

  46. Rat Sumatra on June 6, 2023 at 2:24 pm

I love the design. I couldn’t live in the city but this would be very nice for a visit. Thank you for the consideration of storage. An entire wall of nothing but closet, appliances and more storage is phenomenal! I really liked the wood dividers. That is very stately and elegant yet not over bearing. And my gosh her plants are very happy. Thank you for the beautiful showing.

  47. adaisa halpern on June 6, 2023 at 2:24 pm

A lot of storage is great.

  48. luci on June 6, 2023 at 2:24 pm

3:06 i want to see somebody sit in that blue chair. it looks like it would be uncomfortable but not at the same time.

  49. Katie Kim on June 6, 2023 at 2:26 pm

That’s so elegant like 5 star hotel. It has big enough closet and the long island kitchen bench and the food storage. Laundry as well. The big window gives the brightness.

  50. Karina Wong on June 6, 2023 at 2:28 pm

I really like the design. Very practical with all the clean lines. The sliding doors are a plus.
