Quick Gift Sewing: Add Fabric Accent to Store-Bought Towels!

Quick Gift Sewing: Add Fabric Accent to Store-Bought Towels!

Hello, Shiny Crafty People! Welcome back to the channel.

Tim Totten here and today we’re going to add fabric to a store-bought towel to make a super fast gift! This one went to my mom, who loves dogs, but I’ve made some with superhero fabrics for another friend and a towel with Jack Skellington fabric (from Nightmare Before Christmas) as a gift for my son this last Christmas.

This is an easy task that anyone who can sew a straight line can do!

Here’s what you’ll need:

1 store-bought towel
1/8 – 1/4 yard of accent fabric
Matching thread
Sewing machine
Scissors or rotary cutter
Pins or clips

This is a quick 15-minute project that creates a personalized gift that is perfect for many occasions.

Nice towels and your friend loves them, I’m sure. I like your simple tip about how to get the edges turned. Thank you for sharing that tip and also thank you for sharing the info about the 505 temporary basting spray.

The first day I got my rotary cutter I dropped it on my foot and wound up in the ER with stitches. But it didn’t stop me. Lol

Very cute idea… and great video on how to make them. Thank you! A quick tip… you can use small pieces of Stitch Witchery to help hold the folds and fabric in place before sewing!

I made my husband facemasks with that fabric. Now I know what to do with the leftover strips! Thanks, Tim Totten! Also, Thanks for the clear directions for those tight corners, they would have frustrated me.

Great tutorial! On the corners I find if I use a little spray starch and iron in the miter and clip it, by the time. Get to the machine it will hold the corner without pins!

  25. Rose Pittman on August 29, 2023 at 7:27 pm

Just a question……do you need to prewash towel and fabric.

  26. Nicole Case on August 29, 2023 at 7:29 pm

Some basic beginner questions… Are you using a Universal needle or what type is best when working with towels? If sewing fabric on top of hand towels or bath towels that may have more of a nap, do you recommend some sort of stabilizer for smoother sewing? If so, what type and when/how would you use the stabilizer?
