RV Camping With NO RESERVATIONS! How to Find Open Campsites NOW

Camping with No Reservations – is it possible? There are TONS of RV Campgrounds across the US that do not require reservations and in this video we’re going to show you how to find them.
So…what and where are these parks? ⬇️⬇️ Click Show More ⬇️⬇️
First, what and where are these parks?

👉🏻 County run and city run parks are everywhere across the USA
👉🏻 COE or Corp of Engineer RV parks. Check them out at www.recreation.gov or www.Corpslakes.us
👉🏻 Fairgrounds (use google or apps to find these in the area you’re looking at visiting)
👉🏻 Harvest Hosts – get started here: www.gratefulglamper.com/harvesthosts

How to find these campgrounds:

👉🏻Google – you can go a google search for “camping near CITY NAME” for example and see what comes up in the search results.
👉🏻Local Parks and Rec website – search for the local city’s parks and recreation website. Most will show a “camping” option if they have a park that offers camping.
👉🏻Apps like Campendium, Allstays, and RV Parky
County Website – you can search for example “Orange County Florida camping” and it will take you the section of the website that shows you what camping is available in the area

As soon as we retired in December, 2020, we knew we were going to Sturgis, SD for the motorcycle rally for the 5th time, but this time we were going to plan a nice long path from Kentucky to California to visit friends and family first. I became a member of Harvest Hosts, because many times we just want a place to sleep a few hours without a time consuming set up, but quite frankly am tired of the “rest area” or “Cracker Barrel” overnights. When planning our 5000 mile round trip I have been able to “request a stay” at two Harvest Host locations. One in Oklahoma and one in Utah, and can’t wait to visit these two completely different types of places! I also use Recreation.gov and have had a lot of success even reserving just a couple months ahead. COE campgrounds are usually beautiful, or have perfect RV pad, tables or recreation and definitely inexpensive. Though I made reservations and ended up having to cancel two weeks in advance, I still lost one night, but at $19 I wasn’t too concerned that my money was basically a contribution to the maintenance of what turned out to be a beautiful park. I also use GoodSam, first to “navigate” where my RV can travel as opposed to a car, and second to help with reviews. It has taken me a total of at least 2 weeks of google maps, and websites to plan our route that begins July 22, 2021 and ends sometime the first week in September. (I began planning and reserving in March). Our biggest alteration we WILL do is add more Solar to be able to pull into beautiful Disbursed camping areas that are much more plentiful. We travel in a 37’ Class A, and will pull an enclosed 12” trailer which will have our motorcycle. So some places, like state parks or COE are a little more difficult to find and even if their slots are long, we’ve had to detach the car we were dollying on one trip. But the place was so beautiful it was a good way to learn how to do it to enjoy the campground. This is my first plan for such a long trip and it’s stressful and exciting at the same time. Thanks for your information and happy travels!

While in Weeping Water you need to stop at the hardware stores. They are like a trip back in time.

Yep, good info. The crowdsourced apps can be helpful, but they’ll always be full of opinions and anecdotal references rather than consistent results. Someone might rate a spot as the best camping ever, but when you get there you find out they were in a van and there’re no berths large enough for anything over 25 feet. ioverlander is a good one. Also, another abbreviation for the Army Corp is USACE (United States Army Corp of Engineers". The cool thing about Army Corp camps is that they honor the same ATB (America the Beautiful) pass that national parks and forests accept.

Getting a good camp spot without a reservation feels like ya win the lottery! It’s great when ya pull in and see the spot available is the one you would have picked if you had your choice.

  22. Stephanie Fitch on October 22, 2021 at 10:43 am

There’s also a brand new app called Spot2nite that gives you available campsites last minute!

  27. Thomas Theys on October 22, 2021 at 10:54 am

We are not able to get reservations at any of our usual spots and we have been regular RV years for the last 15 years. Thank you for the information I love your videos. Thomyt

Another way to search. Go to google maps or google earth. The will take you to your current location. Do a search for “camping” and or “RV park” or similar. If where you want to be is outside the screen, pan to the area and “Search Here” will show on screen. Works very well!
