▶︎ About the episode:
When we’re between seasons, it’s the perfect time to focus on creating highly requested videos. Now that we have over 100,000 miles of RVing experience, it was time to update our RV Setup video. This video covers the RV basics of setting up in an RV site, but it’s not designed to cover every detail. Rather, we wanted to draw attention to the required steps that must be done in order to set up safely.

**This checklist is designed for a travel trailer and may not be complete for your rig. Your RV may have other steps necessary to ensure the safety of you and your equipment.

    THANK YOU!
Firstly, I love your videos and following your family’s adventures.
I’ve been watching for a few years. I’ve had a popup and an Aliner Ranger 15 Off-road. I camper 104 nights last year, in 22 states and 4 provinces, for a total of 19 000km.
I just purchased my first—and hopefully forever (I’m 70)—travel trailer: A Rove Lite 16RB—my first trailer with black & grey water tanks—so I’m going back to watch or re-watch some of your past videos. I’ve downloaded both your setup and tear-down checklists and am about to watch your Tear Down video.
    Safe travels, and stay well!❤

Not sure where to put my question. Help! So when does the water heater get filled and what about igniting light? Where does this step fall in the setup camp deal?

  4. Herb Hammonds on September 24, 2023 at 2:19 pm

    TRISH!!!…Is it level!?!?!?….LOL!!!

  5. Gary Trippel on September 24, 2023 at 2:19 pm

I have to make two suggestions. I would first plug in your surge protector to is if power pole is wired correctly. That way if there is a problem you don’t have to tear down to move to a different. Probably will never happen but could. Second before hooking up fresh water hose run some water out of outlet to make sure no bugs or other thinks are in the line.

    Name brand of better chockes.

  7. Sharon LaMarsh-Biggar on September 24, 2023 at 2:22 pm

Great info for a newbie like me, thanks! Do you have the 1/2" or 5/8" zero-G hose?

  8. Herb Hammonds on September 24, 2023 at 2:24 pm

Thanks!…We needed that video because we are about to take our first trip!!!

Nice vidio on setting up. One thing I would change from # 8 step to # 1 is check the power at the post first, hate to get level and everything else than to find out I have no power.

  15. Terry smiles on September 24, 2023 at 2:36 pm

Use the Grey water handle for the black water sewer! I am missing a handle too…they screw on i always twist the other off and put it on the missing one! Mine is all in one pipe with different handles!

Going over your videos that I haven’t watched yet because there’s always something to learn even if you’ve done it a bunh of times before. I get gloves from Costco. I use them to clean up the yard from the dog "presents". They hold up really well and it’s easier and cleaner IMHO that the pooper scooper.

Great info about electrical and water at 12:00

  18. Doug Brown on September 24, 2023 at 2:38 pm

I noticed the awning was opened just to cover the slide-out. This is a very good idea as it protects the slide-out from rain and it shouldn’t get wrecked from wind because it was out just a bit. I’m thinking that is why you did this. I am a pre new RVer and actually haven’t purchased the trailer – just getting the truck this week. Going to the RV show next week in Toronto and hopefully will purchase a trailer there. Your videos have been very helpful and we’re taking lots of notes. You both are amazing! Keep on doing your presentations – again, very helpful.

  23. M G on September 24, 2023 at 2:45 pm

Great information. Thank you for sharing. I did my first voyage last week. I thought I was prepared. Needless to say, I wasn’t. Here are the things I needed (and perhaps you can incorporate on your list).
    Tools.
    1.1/4- 1" combination wrenches
    2. Channel lock pliers
    3. Standard and Phillips screwdrivers
    4. The all-important vise grips.
    5. Teflon tape
    6. Duct tape
    7. Box of fuses
Ensure your propane tanks are full.
Ensure you have ALL of your keys needed to open all doors and locks. (I ended up color coding mine as I have 9 keys) BRING the spare and stow it in the tow vehicle.
Consider a portable Macerator pump. Amazon has the whole kit. by Kitvance e.g
Ensure your tires are inflated properly.
Consider trail cameras and place them around your camper.
I am rolling in a 2016 Airstream Bambi. Love it.

    Happy Camping

We do these videos to share what we’ve learned the hard way. But just like every video, the comments have great ideas and tips. I’ve updated the blog, "What we’ve learned from the comments" and included a few of the comments below. Check it out. http://www.keepyourdaydream.com/setup/ We’ll update with more comments as we find more gems 👍

Thanks so much for your time and positive energy in your videos. My wife and I are taking our first trip today 7/23/23 to KOA in Gettysburg. We are excited. I bought solid rubber chocks from Harbor Freight on a coupon for 5.99 each. Great tip. Keep the great content coming.

Picking up first RV tomorrow. We really appreciate this video! 👍

  36. Terry smiles on September 24, 2023 at 2:58 pm

Or instead of hooking to the city water you just fill your tank and avoid all that other stuff….filling the tank does not take much effort! specially when its right there! I stick to having just one slide out and i make sure its greased up well….I also run my generator if i have no power hookup for the 1 slide out!

  37. NJ CardFan on September 24, 2023 at 2:59 pm

The one piece of advice I can give is have backups/extras. Extra fresh water hose, electric service line, sewer hose. I’ve needed all 3 sometimes more than 1. One trip last year, the electric pedestal and fresh water hookup were at the front of the camper. Only the sewer hose was where it belonged. As we all know most electric service cords are 25′ long so I got an additional 25′ extension. Same with the water. I have a 15′ hose I use regularly so I got a 25′ extension and an extra 10′ sewer line. You don’t want to get caught short and being forced to buy from the park as they charge through the nose.

  38. Mark Phillips on September 24, 2023 at 3:02 pm

    Is there a pdf checklist?

  39. Marcel Balcarek on September 24, 2023 at 3:02 pm

Sadly the chairs are not on your amazon page anymore, and you never mentioned the brand. I found some “stioc fireside table camping chairs” that look similar and are $36 on sale from $49. Can you provide the brand?

  40. Gary Fairbourn on September 24, 2023 at 3:03 pm

What is the name of the water hose that you like so much? I was on your Amazon site but you have many hoses there. Please advise.

Hi Marc & Tricia. My wife Jennifer and I have recently purchased our fist RV travel trailer. (Forest River, Alpha Wolf) and our excitement is overflowing. I’m Donald and would like to thank you guys so very much for sharing your videos. I’ve done a considerable amount of research to prepare my family and I for our first camping trip. Your Newbie RV check list certainly put things into perspective and was Newbie friendly… We love the check list, and everyone will have to participate to make our outing successful. Again, thank you guys for blessing us with your experience.

  43. Carolyn Hogan on September 24, 2023 at 3:05 pm

We are 16 year RV veterans. But I got a little trailer for myself in August. I’ve backed up lots of things successfully. BUT I am backing a 18’ travel trailer with Ford Explorer. Both are short. Still practicing. But while watching your video. 1 word of Caution the spotter should NOT walk backwards! To easy to trip and fall & get ran over and probably killed. Just thought I would pass that on to you.

My girlfriend lives in Carefree Az.! Very beautiful area. Love your videos!🥰

  45. Kimie Contino on September 24, 2023 at 3:10 pm

I am so jealous of how you backed into this site–perhaps you should do a video on backing up! It has me so nervous!

  46. Eugene Ehlinger on September 24, 2023 at 3:10 pm

Why don’t you put it before the splitter and then you would only need one.

  47. Bernice Butterly on September 24, 2023 at 3:13 pm

We enjoy your utube. Thank you for making it easy to learn RV. we just bought a 22 ft .

Pro Tip: if you roll that rug up the opposite way it will lay flat better when you roll it out to use it…
