Solo Van Life. Living in a Van for 5 months Changed his Life. Camper Van Tour and Mini Documentary.

Jake and his dog Louie live full time in a 1986 Ford Get-Away-Van. When he bought it he did some cosmetic upgrades like re doing the counter tops, adding a collage of maps, and buttons on the ceiling. Jake shares with us an interesting way that he does his dishes, and he also shares how he shared the van for 3 weeks with someone and how that worked.
Jake uses a Jackery 500 for all his electrical needs (https://amzn.to/2N2woAV) he uses a Wave 3 to keep warm (https://amzn.to/37xyORz) and he uses pot lights to stay lit! (https://amzn.to/2C7dB5j)

Better than some of these "van life" bloggers that seem to be more luxury lifestyle and use the van for clicks and views

Your carbon monoxide detector should go on the floor carbon monoxide is heavier than air

  3. wow newstome on December 18, 2020 at 11:59 pm

I’m impressed you were able to fit in two sleeping areas, and good you helped your cousin out.

Please….if you get symptoms of the flu, assume it could be carbon monoxide poisoning since several symptoms are the same. Go outside for an extended period and see if you feel better, indicating that it’s carbon monoxide inside.

Per a news story, a propane run refrigerator in a cabin lead to a family being found unconscious. The 10-year-old later died from it. (news, the independent co uk)

I realize you have openings for fresh air while cooking, but remember, that’s not the same a exhausting fumes, and camping stoves are for outdoor use only.

In any case, good to hear the positives you’ve experienced, like being able to pay down your debt and having freedom to roam!

  18. Dr Grey on December 19, 2020 at 12:16 am

Ok it’s a crime that this is the first result for living in a van and not the classic living in a van down by the river sketch

Housing is getting so expensive, and jobs and economy going to crap, another great depression, not a better time, my family thinks it’s crazy, I said it will affect everyone eventually, better then being under a bridge.

  28. Nope Nope on December 19, 2020 at 12:27 am

Lol it’s just way easier washing dishes that way. Dude you’re literally cleaning the utensils you eat with in a room full of poop particles all over!

Whats one of the best ways to make money with this kind of life style? For me I would want to move around a lot and look at new things often so it would be hard to stay in one place to work. Is this a limitation or am I just not thinking of everything?

I’m 22 years old almost done school at the University of Guelph and there’s something about this entire life style and just detaching yourself from technology to see yourself grow. Just dont know where to even start after Im done school for it …

Your carbon monoxide monitor should be slightly lower than your head when sleeping. It sinks

  46. Quinton Pullol on December 19, 2020 at 12:50 am

Thank for this dude. Im super inspired by this. I’ve lived in my van for 5 months before I started the conversion journey. Sooo excited to be living fulltime in my improved home. Much love! Safe travels.
