After 2+ years on the road, here is what I recommend doing when you have pets and no AC. *Y’all know this, but I would NEVER put my cats in any danger. Their safety is my number one concern.*
• Have at least 2 forms of air circulation in your van! I have 2 Maxxair fans that blow in and out and 2 windows. When the fans are turned on, it creates an amazing wind tunnel.
• Have a pocket/partition door that separates the hottest part of the vehicle from the living space. You can also use an insulated & weighted curtain!
• FULLY INSULATE your van! My van is fully insulated and not like a regular vehicle.
• Invest in heavy duty window covers! I get mine from @vanmadegear and LOVE them! I travel for 85 degrees and below and spend most of my summer in the mountains.
• Get a hotel if there is a heat wave!
Other Notes:
• Make sure they have plenty of water!
• Put cold/wet towels on the ground for them to lay on.
• Have a camera to monitor them while you are running errands. I connect my @ring camera to my portable wifi jetpack from @verizon
• LEAVE YOUR CONTACT INFO ON YOUR DASH! Many don’t know your cats are totally fine and will try to help them.
The reason I chose to not have AC is because it takes too much power and I really don’t think I personally need it.
HOWEVER: If you have to stay somewhere that is HOT all summer and you have a place to plug your van in THEN I absolutely recommend getting AC!

Keeping cats cool?
We have cats and they love the heat, summer is their most comfortable time, and we live in Australia. When the AC is on in the main part of the house at a lovely cool temp for us humans, they are in the laundry hanging out in the sun shine coming through the window. They do not enjoy winter unless they have a nice warm place or lap to curl up in.

Maybe try leaving a note on your two front door windows so nobody tries breaking the window thinking the cats are in a hot van. People don’t know there’s airflow inside and in some states it’s legal to break windows if there is an animal left in a vehicle in the heat.

Cats body temp is 10 degrees lower than ours so they are cold most of the time but certainly can and will suffer from exssesice heat

I got a portable AC called icybreeze and I like it a lot and the dogs love it.
WOW, I would be scared to let my cats walk around, my mom and dad were traveling from LA to Canada my mom was holding him, something spooked him and he ran off never to be seen again💔😔🙏
