Brrrr. But hey, nothing ventured nothing gained. Burnt snow. That’s a new one for me. Excellent video. Thanks for sharing. Keep ’em comin’. Peace, ~RL

Brrr … Yeah, that’s little too cold ๐Ÿฅถ BD trekker ski is interesting gear; bit pricey tho

  5. dawn2duskphotos on January 5, 2022 at 2:53 pm

Hey Justin, would dan durston tent work well for canadian winter ??

  6. Drew Price on January 5, 2022 at 2:53 pm

Loved the video , Iโ€™m always nervous on the first few winter overnighters !

  7. Dan B on January 5, 2022 at 2:54 pm

Any thoughts on alternatives to the Tenshi since it’s not made anymore? I looked at the MSR Access 2 but I’m somewhat concerned it won’t be strong enough for certain snowy conditions. There’s also the other mountaineering tents that Nemo makes. I’m mostly hiking in the NE US.

  8. A Lemieux on January 5, 2022 at 2:54 pm

You probably already know this, but I find if you have coffee (even if itโ€™s cold) before getting out of your sleeping bag, it makes things much easier due to your heart beat increasing

  9. Outside Chronicles on January 5, 2022 at 2:57 pm

Nice video, it is interesting that you are using MSR Isopro canisters in that deep cold. I found that if it is less than 30F the performance drops out. Do you keep it in your jacket and sleeping bag? We switch to Whisper Lite with white gas in winter.

  10. Ray Jo on January 5, 2022 at 2:58 pm

You got exped downmat that goes to -38 degrees or -36.7 Fahrenheit

  11. Paw Outdoors on January 5, 2022 at 2:58 pm

    Awesome. Close to home. Cheers

  12. ben c on January 5, 2022 at 2:59 pm

Ok talk about your sleep pad(s) it looks like your doing something different… the whole bottom of your tent looks like it layered with that decathlon reflective material.
Haha normally you say you slept "toasty warm" but not in this vid. Aside from the forgotten pillow. How did it go? Did you use the quilt?

  13. Guylaine Doucet on January 5, 2022 at 2:59 pm

Hi Justin, can you tell me what brand is your bluetooth thermometer? Thank you Guylaine from Quรฉbec Canada

  14. devinciification on January 5, 2022 at 3:01 pm

Hey man. Which earflap cap is this? Thanks. Great video.

  15. Joshua Johnson Outdoors on January 5, 2022 at 3:02 pm

Hi Justin, if you don’t mind me asking: I’ve recently decided to commit to building a youtube channel. I’ve experienced an encouraging start, but it’s still early days. My question for you is – what are your thoughts on having a very specific and focus for a channel, vs having a more broad channel focus? For example, I see you have a second channel with a solely gear focus. The reason I ask is that I have several interests I like making videos about (outdoors, and food for example). So I’m faced with a decision to specialize or diversify a little. I know the pros say to remain laser focused, but I also feel that there is potential market if we diversify a little.

How do you like the AMG 75? Do you find it large or small for 75L? What about over-filling it? I’m almost a bit surprised how much you had strapped to the outside of the pack – what on earth is INSIDE! ๐Ÿ™‚

  21. Chase E on January 5, 2022 at 3:11 pm

Whatโ€™s the mat youโ€™re sitting on at 07:45?

  25. Chase E on January 5, 2022 at 3:14 pm

Hey Justin, Im torn between the Thermarest and Sea 2 Summit cold weather pads that you showed. Im leaning toward the Thermarest for packability and weight reasons but im worried its very loud. Any input on this? Love your channel btw, very helpful and inspiring

  26. Adam on January 5, 2022 at 3:16 pm

Hey Justin, I love your video very much, especially those winter camping ones like this. A question, where did you get the shelf(at the beginning, 0:17) around youโ“ Thank you.

  32. Sarah Langland on January 5, 2022 at 3:20 pm

Just curious, what is the temp inside the tent once you’re settled in? That is so beautiful and so cold โ„๏ธโ„๏ธโ„๏ธ

  33. Anthony Coleman on January 5, 2022 at 3:21 pm

Watching this on my farm in Victoria Australia, where I got sunburn the other day. Can’t wait for winter and some snow next June.

  34. Backcountry Exposure on January 5, 2022 at 3:23 pm

Yes!!! Was waiting to see this. Canโ€™t wait to get my skis out!

  35. Dose of Dirt on January 5, 2022 at 3:23 pm

DANG! That is COLD! Glad I’m not the only one that doesn’t want to get out of my bag/tent to pee on those cold mornings… ๐Ÿคฃ Admittedly, I’ve never been down to that temp before. That is hard core, man! Awesome!

  36. Dessie Diamond on January 5, 2022 at 3:24 pm

Absolutely stunning scenery. Thanks for sharing

  37. Lisa Starmer on January 5, 2022 at 3:24 pm

The ether light XT extreme pad is on my xmas list. It is so comfortable!

  38. Will M on January 5, 2022 at 3:25 pm

    Where is this

  39. Jacob Matthews on January 5, 2022 at 3:27 pm

How do you compare the overall comfort of your XT extreme in a regular size against your x-therm in large size? Does the quilted XT style and thickness make up for the extra width? At 6’2" I don’t really feel like I have a choice, but still curious!

  40. Larry D. on January 5, 2022 at 3:30 pm

Wow, this is amazing! Thanks for sharing.

  41. Edgerton A Hightower on January 5, 2022 at 3:31 pm

Twenty years ago did my first winter camp with my ten year old. Northern Ontario -35C. A whole new world if you do it right ! Thanks for sharing.

  42. RAW Outdoors on January 5, 2022 at 3:33 pm

What is the blue/reflective role up pad your using for a underlay ?

  43. patrick lynch on January 5, 2022 at 3:36 pm

Hope you are take your Avalanche Safety Training. Peace and Tranquility

  44. Tommy Gun on January 5, 2022 at 3:37 pm

I noticed you keep sitting on the wrong side of the foam mat. The silver part is what you want to point toward your body.

  45. Hiking Leigh on January 5, 2022 at 3:38 pm

what are the down boots you’re wearing during dinner? i didn’t see them linked but i like how they’re knee high!

  46. Kaitlyn McLachlan on January 5, 2022 at 3:38 pm

What is that reflective material you lined your tent with? And did you feel cold overnight? Looking for a good winter sleeping bag – the polar range is RATED down to -30c… add on tent + sleeping pad protection…

Also noticed it didn’t LOOK like you had any form of frozen condensation on the inside in the morning? Is there a special way that’s avoided?

  47. Jacob Matthews on January 5, 2022 at 3:42 pm

Your reflective mat link is dead.

  48. TPG - Trekking Packing Gear on January 5, 2022 at 3:43 pm

Yeah, i have been looking forward to your winter camping videos! I really like that you start your trip now at home and not on the trail. I feel like the viewer is now part of the adventure
    Great Video, thanks Justin!

  49. Mrinal Thakore on January 5, 2022 at 3:44 pm

I believe it’s the Rockies.. if you don’t mind can you please share the location.

  50. Hike-Bike-Paddle & Drone on January 5, 2022 at 3:45 pm

Lovin’ those skis!! The only problem I might see with them is the possibility of snow getting compressed and icing under the bindings if it is of a certain consistency. It would be interesting to see how well the skins work when pulling a pulk sled but I am loving the idea of moving to these instead of snowshoes in some instances. Nice video Justin! Gorgeous country!
