Staircase + Entryway Makeover for $400 | DIY Nearby | Hometalk

When homeowner Michelle wanted to redo her staircase on a budget, she knew she could find the help she needed on Hometalk.
Check out the first-ever episode of DIY Nearby to see how Michelle, with the help of DIYer Alicia, completely redid her dreary staircase and hallway for under $500!
Michelle felt like she could do it herself if she just had a little bit of guidance, so she got in touch with her sister, Hometalker Alicia W., and hired her to come to her home, walk her through what needed to be done and tackle the project together with her. DIY Nearby posts new episodes on Youtube every Sunday at 1pm.

I love the color of the gel stain for the stairs… what was it?

  20. w3therby on May 27, 2021 at 4:31 am

I know this was filmed in 2018, but the 2020 version of me is so triggered by those ladies standing face to face with her mask around her ear at 3:20 😂 Oh how times have changed.

  21. James Bond on May 27, 2021 at 4:33 am

Stain first and then paint. Easier to get paint off of stain then stain off of paint.

  22. Natasha Eccles on May 27, 2021 at 4:33 am

I love that Love You Enemies T-shirt!! Where is it from? 12:49

  23. M Ladd on May 27, 2021 at 4:33 am

Wouldn’t it have been a lot easier to stain the steps first rather than get all that stain over what you just painted?

  24. Cheryl Oldford on May 27, 2021 at 4:35 am

Honest to goodness, you ignore all the viewers questions, whats the point in putting up a videos if you continue to ignore. Very rude.

What was the transition from the floating floor in the hallway at the top of the stairs to the top tread?

  31. Zoltan on May 27, 2021 at 4:41 am

Absolutely love your stairs. You’ve inspired me and I’m going to do exactly the same to mine in my UK home. Thank you! x

  33. One Like Us on May 27, 2021 at 4:42 am

$400 for that makeover?? Adjusted for 2020 Coronavirus inflation $965.

  34. Steven Lewis on May 27, 2021 at 4:45 am

Nice video! What is the name of the painting tool you’re using to do the edges without masking?

  35. Jessika Corral on May 27, 2021 at 4:49 am

Good job! (Fyi: don’t need to paint with that "W" technique- search professional painters lol)

  36. Janelle M on May 27, 2021 at 4:49 am

  37. samsara 1970 on May 27, 2021 at 4:50 am

I have a good tip for staining. Instead of using a brush, just use a cloth and just apply it to th cloth, and rub on in a circular fashion. You could even use a tinted wax which is great.🙂💖

  38. G L on May 27, 2021 at 4:50 am

My scare is when I take the carpet off. What’s gone be hiding under. These stairs seemed good it was wood but if they aren’t.

  39. Abeed Miah on May 27, 2021 at 4:51 am

What the thing you use to paint the edges of the walls

  40. Theresa Wallis on May 27, 2021 at 4:54 am

I AM GOING TO do my steps thank you.

  41. Aleksandras Levcenka on May 27, 2021 at 4:54 am

Crappy quality of work. The stair risers haven’t been sanded properly and painted straight on top of the uneven surface.

  42. Nutty Insomniac on May 27, 2021 at 4:54 am

Wow. So much better. Love the floor and the stairs.

  43. R.M. M on May 27, 2021 at 4:55 am

Lambs wool works great for stain…they sell it at the paint store

  47. R.M. M on May 27, 2021 at 4:58 am

Another tip…painting…when dipping the paint brush…instead of wiping one side back into the bucket, tap the brush after u dip it…tap it inside the can…it knocks off all the excess so u don’t drip but gives u enough to make more then one swipe…and use a broom stick to attach to the paint roller handle then u can roll from bottom up and then back down in one motion then transition to the next roll…
