Studio apartments are daunting — you’ve just got one, open room to sleep in, live in and eat in. How do you make it a functional small space on a budget? In this episode of The Home Primp, Chatelaine Home Editor Alexandra Gater takes a trip to Ikea for some small space furniture ideas and leaves with everything she needs without dropping a ton of cash. Watch as she hacks the $10 Ikea Frack mirror into a wall light, jazzes up the Skogsta stool with chalk paint and makes an entryway organizer out of an Bekvam spice rack.
The trick to creating a living space when your apartment is too small for a couch? Don’t forego the Queen-sized bed — instead, turn your bed into a couch with a few cushions and tons of cozy throws. And one Ikea Kallax shelf is the perfect way to divide this space and even creates a little space for an entryway.

What happened to the kitchen
I would have made the alcove into a dining area. I would have not put the heart sticker on the wall. But put a nice piece of art work. Where the dining table was in would have put a small couch. The chair colors I did not like. Chairs the same color would have looked better. But that is my taste. The blanket laying across the bed would have to go. Also plants. To me plants are a pain and take up wayvtoo.much space. Art work with blues and greens would be better. Also bedding in that color. The stuff in the alcove would go on the shelf separating the bed. I liked the shelf, butvthis is my taste how I would do the apartment.

I know this isn’t new, but I never saw it! I live in a studio in NYC so this was super helpful. It turned out so cute! I also do believe in displaying things that I love, turning collectibles into little displays. 🤎
basic taste by basic designer for basic people living in a basic world
I understand that this is a studio but you can actually still make space… I just feel like this was way too much. I would trip and bump into every single thing if I lived in that studio

Very nice except for cheap looking tassels on curtains.
I was watching and thinking "yes, that stool would make a nice nighstand" and then she occupied the whole thing with a plant and I was like "nope, not anymore". And yes, same questions about the closet, storage space, the door and that room looks cluttered. Looks cute on the pics but not functional at all.
