where do the Japanese and Scandinavians keep all their stuff… ?
My mother is Japanese and my father is Norwegian so this mash up of styles definitely speaks to me! Not sure how I could get it to work effectively in the Victorian house we live in but it’s giving me ideas!
Oh my gosh!! I love the style of this video!! What a fabulous blend, love it!! Totally finding my *calm* in this!! Thank you very much for doing this video! Amazing!!
Looks like I’ve unintentionally shifted towards more of a japandi look by adding a few (what I would describe as) industrial-ish pieces to my scandi home ☺️ Great video as always, Lisa ❤️ from little Denmark 🇩🇰
Love, love, love it all!! The simple spaces, the textures, the subtlety!!!
The editing keeps on getting better 😀 super funny without overdoing it 😂👍
You really are a genius
Can we also call it ZenCozy? 😂
Lose the background music, Please, Thanks
GREAT video but I think you’re AMAZING and funny. I adore Japanese culture, this makes sense to me. Your vids are meat and potatoes after a diet of "fast food" here on YouTube. TY
Hi Lisa, thank you for this video! My boyfriend was just hangin’ on your words as he claims japandi his style (unfortunately he is very messy so it’s just not gonna happen I’m afraid). Very informative video and definitely an amusing one as well! However I have a remark: please remove the exclamation mark from the end of your shop link, because the browser doesn’t open it that way. It’s not a big deal but maybe some of your lovely viewers don’t notice it and wouldn’t know why the link doesn’t work. Thank you and please keep on making these educational AND super delightful videos! Have a wonderful day! XO
Love Japandi. I am working towards incorporating pieces my sons brought back from Japan with a mix of other styles but trying to keep it "clean."
Japandi style is not necessarily my thing, however some elements resonate with me. I’m finding that my problem with design has more to do with being gutsy rather than not knowing what I like. Loving something in a page or a screen is not the same as living in it. Having the backbone to make big changes seems to be the biggest…thing.
Can you do Hollywood Regency and Chinoiserie style? They are my two favorite styles. Thanks.
This is 💯 percent my style, love this informative video.
Another wonderful video! I learn something in every one of your videos. Thank you, Lisa!!
I don’t know how Lisa makes this so entertaining, but she really does!
Thanks Lisa, every video is a master class. 🤗😘💖💖💖
👍👍Love Japanese & Danish Modern…great combo! 💞
I’ve watched lots of videos that talk about Japandi, but this is the first time I’ve heard such a clear explanation of what constitutes Japandi. Lisa, you are a great teacher- thank you!
I spent 5 years in Japan. And came home with the most amazing antique screens, vases and art. I’ve never put them out but……..some day.
Love the black accents and simplicity of “Japandi”. Do you think this will be a short-lived trend or do you think it’s here to stay? By the way I just bought new frames for my glasses and I turned on your video and you’re wearing the same ones!! LOVE all your frames. Looking fabulous as always Lisa! ❤️ And really enjoy your content. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I know Japandi is a new trend but this design concept seems so 2003 to me. At the time my boyfriend was doing interiors like this.🤔
Lisa, you could be a teacher, you are so good at breaking down concepts and explaining them in basic terms, and a pop quiz to boot! I love Japandi style and I’ve got the clean/no clutter part down, but I need more color. Your photos so gorgeous though, totally inspiring! My favorite part of the style is the concept of wabi sabi. Thanks for another lovely video, love your energy! 😀💙
Love japandi where do we purchase these items ?…Got it 👍🏻 MEGA MODERN 👏🏼💃🏻 😘
This is kind of random but how did you get that soft glow of light on your shelves? I’m trying to layer my lighting and like how yours has some personality
This was quite good, probably my fave video of yours yet. Though the intro music is stale, this actually felt younger and fresher and sleeker than your usual videos. Great job. I watched it twice.
this sounds like it’s going to be me
It was a gloomy day and then Lisa says ‘Oh my Gosh I love this’ as only she can, and it just turned sunny and bright.
I think I started this trend in 2004–but not knowing modern design I named it James Bond Zen. We bought a lot of IKEA furniture and added in some natural pieces, wenge woods mixed with light birch pieces. Very minimal. Very neutral. Still love it and am doing a similar style in our new home.
Love to see ideas on how to decorate for a modern Victorian home. Great video Lisa
I’m more of a wabi sabi kinda girl, japandi is more clean
Another style i love…. omg… i don’t even know what style i love anymore…
I’m.sorry but none of those japanese decor where actually japanese, they all looked like scandi lol
Wow Lisa I’m amazed…you explained it well not my style but I always learn a lot from you…thanks for your insight…it’s great seeing other styles brought to life🙂👍❤️
The furniture … I’m dying. I want it all! 🤤 Danish furniture has long been my favourite. That angular bookshelf … I can’t even deal. I just adore it.👌🏻
The natural textures I can learn to get behind! I’m trying to incorporate natural elements into my style so that other people find my place as homey as I do, but I don’t like wicker or rattan, and I’m the Angel of Death when it comes to any kind of living plant (and fakes tend to look so bad!). Wood and leather I love, though! So I’ll get there eventually.
Based on your descriptions, Japandi is a style I definitely show hints of, and I love how it looks, even though I may not choose it for my own home.
But there are definite parallels between this style and mine. For example, I love black. I love natural light. I love wood. I love low Danish furniture. I love high ceilings and I even like all-wood ceilings and walls. I love minimalism. I could get behind gallery-white walls. I even love the juxtaposition of symmetry and asymmetry that you mentioned … those are all directions I intuitively go! ❤️
Some divergences between that style and mine would be with the “hygge” look, because I tend to prefer, say, a chair with interesting angles and straight lines over the cozy chaise longue with the classic muppet-skin pillow and the fluffy loose-knit throw (it’s a pet peeve of mine when people misread “chaise longue” as “chaise lounge”, by the way … but I’m seeking counselling for that. 😄). Sure, that look seems comfy, but I’m looking for that elegance factor.🍸
Oh, and sorry to bust the Canadian stereotype, but I also don’t like the animal hides that the Scandinavian style seems to love so much. Something about having a preserved partial carcass on my floor—or worse, the couch!—just gives me the heebie-jeebies. The worst are when people taxidermy animal heads on the wall! Egad! (That’s like a cop mounting the head of a felon on the wall!) But I digress …
Japandi is definitely a style I appreciate a lot! If I went to a house that went this direction, I would be complimenting that homeowner on repeat! 😀
By the way, LOVE the pop quiz! 😀😀😀 I would not complain if you did that every video! Brilliant way to engage the audience! Please do more! And maybe next time the editor could do picture-in-picture so we could pause the video and see both the room and your joyful smile at the same time! 😀
Thanks as always for a magnificent video! It was nice to say a quick hello this morning! ❤️ Until next week!
I could listen to you for hours and actually retain the info.
Thank you. Your humour is fantastic 😀
Thank you for this video Lisa. I wonder, is there a name for industrial+scandi ? I found myself liking those two styles… Well I think, or maybe I’m "just" a japandi fan with just one or two items of industrial…
I’m going to build a tiny house so I’m editing a LOT and I’m looking on how to put everything in place in such a small space. That’s really, really fun!
As someone who collects Japanese traditional arts and shops a ton at Ikea, I feel like I’m set for this trend XD My entire kimono room is a combination of these two styles!
Very beautiful designs, explained so well. Thank you Lisa
I would like to see your ideas for surrounding a big tv with something stylish from IKEA in shelving display shelving ideas please..
You guys ASKED FOR THIS!! 🎉 🎉 So many of you have been asking: HOW DO I GET JAPANDI DESIGN!? Well here are 6 steps for you to get Japandi in your own homes, 6 STEPS! So grab your notebook and get ready for some fun! Comment below and share with me what you’re favorite feature of this style is!!! ❤️❤️
Really like that style 🥰
Yeah, nah. I live in the Texas Hill Country… it’s Spanish Colonialism with lots of antlers. 👍
Hi Lisa! I would love to hear something about the amish / shaker style… Would that be a topic for you? 🌱
Love the education. Love learning how to pair down my spaces to be nearer to this look. I just can’t see me being strictly in this bucket. Lisa & Team; your work putting these videos together are teaching people which look they have preference for. I would love to vacation in a Japandi space, but while doing my next room, I know it’s not possible to live happily my day-to-day in a Japandi space. And I can’t explain why I would love to spend vacay but not permanently live with it. 🤷🏻♀️
Thank you! I really appreciate how you walked through each detail of the example room and guided us through the comparative analysis. Great content!
Great look and oh so calming. Love the videos and learning about all these designs. Thank you, Lisa!
Awesome video. Thank you, Lisa!
Your design resources link is broken plz help! I love love love this style but have had the hardest time finding a sofa that fits this style 🙏😭
