Oh well… I’m updating my 1920 house into the 50’s… It’s been repainted pink in the halls, aqua green in the dining & living room… Very light pastel colors… No idea what’s my deco style! Might be "1920 working class industrial in the kitchen and bathroom, grand millennium- without wall papers- art deco- eclectic…"
I watched all the design videos i can, but i find it really hard without a designer to help…

  2. Elizabeth Claiborne on October 24, 2021 at 9:42 am

🤣🤣🤣 The Seventies have been back. Green is in its third season and growing. And why not show them Halstons place, or a deco revival NYC apartment? There was amazing design in the ‘70’s, that’s what’s back.

  3. Megan on October 24, 2021 at 9:43 am

I want to have plants soooo badly but one of my cats chews on all of them!! I’ve had to hide them in rooms throughout the house and close the doors so she can’t get to them. I am a plant lover and had so many ideas but now I have to come up with a different solution and don’t know what to do.

  4. Ramblings from Canada on October 24, 2021 at 9:43 am

as soon as you said the 70s were back, I said ‘oh barf’ LOL 🤣🤣 Yes, over 40 and eye poking has commenced 😭🤣 The greens are nice and if I wasn’t in the midst of painting over some soft greens that are currently on the walls, I’d consider it. I guess I was way ahead of the trend when I painted them a few years back 😂 but now it’s time to change it up. Definitely yes to the plants. I wish I had the room for some bigger tree type plants…I’ll have to see if I have enough light for one and if so, see about making some room for a nice one. Thank you Lisa, loving your videos and the Dezign Club so much! 💖

Your glasses are fantastic! Where might I find those frames?

  6. LauraB on October 24, 2021 at 9:45 am

LOL on the ’70’s, Lisa! I was going to say the yellows remind me of Harvest Gold:)

  7. K Russell on October 24, 2021 at 9:49 am

Of the things you listed for 2022, only one or two I’m on board with are the plants and curved furniture. Not interested in what the paint companies are trying to push or anything 70’s. I grew up in the 70’s and don’t remember any special interior design trends but I was a kid and everyone I knew had hand-me-down furniture.

  8. TeaRoseLover on October 24, 2021 at 9:50 am

They’re all beautiful paint colors. I can’t get into green for bedrooms though because institutions and hospitals used to use it and it made the patients depressed.

  9. Danielle Fascione on October 24, 2021 at 9:52 am

"3 ways" *holds up 4 fingers* , I had to double take 😂

  10. 3-Y Ɩןן on October 24, 2021 at 9:53 am

Oh man I really hate brown, beige and orange in interior. I must do some off white like neutral cloud white on walls with grey, black and purple or blue on decoration.

  11. FL on October 24, 2021 at 9:53 am

    Dont like green

  12. medora kea on October 24, 2021 at 9:57 am

I’m SO HERE for the 70s comeback tbh (I may or may not have drawn a mushroom on my rug in my latest video)

  13. S A on October 24, 2021 at 9:57 am

Can you do a show on how to run your hardwood floors! I have very open floor plan with a wide hall connecting the rooms.

  14. Annette Breton on October 24, 2021 at 9:58 am

OMG your glasses are smashing darlin’!

  15. Still Waters Farm on October 24, 2021 at 9:59 am

I love greens, especially if they are on the blue-green side of things. Having always had yellow rooms in my houses, I have relegated it to the smallest spaces now, because I get tired of it. I never get tired of blue. It’s hard for me not to paint my whole house blue. 😁 How many 40 somethings hate the 70s thing? I was born 79, and 70s feels homey to me – like my oldest memories, my grandparents house, etc. I wouldn’t mind a beaded curtain in the right spot 😁

  16. Victoria on October 24, 2021 at 10:00 am

Oh gawd plz leave the 70’s in the 70’s don’t even try to tweak it and sell it. We have come too far to go back to that. Not happening in my world. Lol

  17. Alejandra Lascurain on October 24, 2021 at 10:00 am

Dear Lisa:what do you Think about mirror wall?

  18. Doretta Wilson on October 24, 2021 at 10:00 am

all the furniture looks so UNCOMFORTABLE!!!!! noooooo

  19. Dani B on October 24, 2021 at 10:01 am

I hate green in anything, but plants.

  20. James OConnor on October 24, 2021 at 10:03 am

Comment by Carmencita: Not a good idea to follow "trends" just choose items and colors which you like. Why do you need to change everything just because "someone" decided that is no longer "in"? Classic always looks well.

  21. sdelong74 on October 24, 2021 at 10:03 am

Sustainable to me is buying used and rehabbing. I actually like rehabbing old pieces from thrift stores and giving it a second chance. Found a 1960s brass Stiffel lamp. Dirty and not working. Cleaned it up and had it rewired. Probably saved it from being scrap metal. It sits on a five dollar table that I thrift ed with unique hardware. To me sustainable is finding great used pieces. As far as the seventies goes. As long as the best designs are salvaged. Cane and rattan I do love. The Sears Merry Mushrooms stuff I flipped. No.

  22. Allison Link on October 24, 2021 at 10:03 am

Ugh, the 70’s. I’ll skip it entirely, thanks!

  23. Tutone Lyles Naranjo on October 24, 2021 at 10:05 am

Hey Lisa – funny I was looking at green gloves today a very rich green and have instinctively been thinking about that color lately I love the toned down color palette new trend with subtlety. Sedate yet a bit playful. Rich yet less imposing. Really appreciated this enlightening video. Always look forward to your ideas and offerings. Thanks.

  24. N Angel on October 24, 2021 at 10:06 am

Someone pass the acid so I can sleep through this second age of Aquarius. Age of Aquarius…Aquarius….
If you lived through the actual 70’s you’ll understand that reference and you’re welcome for the ear worm. If you didn’t live through it (design wise) congratulations. 70’s design was worse than 80’s hair on steroids (which probably resulted from drugs from the 70’s). The circle of life.

  25. Kathy O on October 24, 2021 at 10:06 am

Oh dear God the thought of the foiled wallpaper with the velvet running through it and the shag carpeting below 😫

  26. maggierose97 on October 24, 2021 at 10:08 am

I’m well over 40. There is nothing anyone can do to make the 70s style acceptable to me.

  27. The other Alys on October 24, 2021 at 10:08 am

    Pass me a spoon! 😳

  28. Katherine Hamar on October 24, 2021 at 10:08 am

Lisa! Could you do a video on BIG plants and how to use them? Which ones for low light areas, etc?

  29. Michele S on October 24, 2021 at 10:09 am

So many people say it’s best to go with colours you like and not worry about trends and I agree with that 100%. I have always loved various shades of green, mostly lighter tones like a beautiful sage, not too saturated. I’m glad green is back on trend, but doesn’t make much difference to me, as I like pops of it throughout my home, trend or no trend! I think the paint companies do lure people in with these “colours of the years” and hoping everyone is running to the paint stores to re paint their entire house!

  30. Alo New on October 24, 2021 at 10:10 am

I don’t like any of the trends. I love my deep grey n I’m keeping it. Also hate curves! They r a nightmare in a tight space. Straight lines r so clean 😌

  31. Elmer Befuddled on October 24, 2021 at 10:10 am

Papering my walls in 2022… with discarded face masks! "😷"

70’s decor was hideous, agree. I remember it all. But honestly, even rust orange shag carpet & avocado green/harvest gold appliances are better than the very recent decorative skull trend. What were designers thinking? 💀 👈🤪

  32. Liz Petruzzi on October 24, 2021 at 10:13 am

    Okay…but…your glasses!!! ❤️👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼

  34. marnie b on October 24, 2021 at 10:14 am

I remember when I was a little girl and we still had an avocado green fridge in the 80s. My mom was glad when it finally died and my dad had to buy a new one. 😂

  35. Irene Norris on October 24, 2021 at 10:15 am

The 70’s were nothing to celebrate the first time. No thank you! Not even a little. Love your channel Lisa Holt!

  36. M-J. on October 24, 2021 at 10:15 am

The 70s…I remember them well. In my first apartment without a roommate in 1972 I had an orange and brown shag rug (not too long a shag, but it was shag…what was I thinking) and rattan furniture with orange cushions. The crazy thing about that is once I got married, so many of my friends asked if they could have it. We bought new furniture for our new place so I was more than happy to move past my orange faze. As for green walls…I didn’t go for that in the 70s. I waited until 1984 and wallpapered my kitchen in a deep green which contrasted with my white cabinetry. I can’t see myself going back to green walls in any room regardless of the colour of green. I’m really happy to see that some furniture designers are going to sustainable, eco friendly or repurposed materials. I’m hoping will not be a passing faze. In my mind, it is the way of the future. I have a little tip for those who have collected art over time and now find that none of it works with their new décor. Reframe and or change the matting of your art. I’ve done this a few times over the years and it’s amazing what a difference it makes. A beautiful painting never goes out of style, but a frame or matting may, so by changing it to fit with your new furniture or style, turns something old into something new again. If you are concerned that the old frame will be thrown out and not repurposed, ask for it back and keep it just in case you find that you may want to change your painting back to its original frame at some point.

The 70s???? 😂😂 Thank goodness it’s just a small taste and subtle. My mom already got into the green walls! I was so surprised! She is alert on trend!! 🤣

Never bought into the grays or farmhouse trend, I wear what I like and decorate with what I like, I enjoy your videos but no dribs or drabs of the 70s for me, yuck. 😂

Do you think I could pull a Rip Van Winkle and just sleep through 2022? 😂 These trends are absolutely not going in the same direction as my style, and here’s why.

    6. Palettes: I can understand the warm, muted tone obsession—at least from a Freudian perspective!—but I feel like the last thing I want is something cozy and dozy! I’m home so much I’d never get anything done! 😄 Out with the hygge. Let’s bring in the energy … the brightness, the fun, the happiness. That’s what I need to surround myself with these days!

    5. Textures: Just no! Why go natural when you can go industrial? 😂 I can appreciate some leather or some stone, but that’s about as far as I go.

    4. Plants: Well, I’m trying with this one! I’ve actually got some windowsill herbs that are lasting! The game-changer for me was putting rocks at the bottom of the pot for drainage; that made all the difference! Still, so many plants produce pollen or require perfect lighting or maintenance, and that’s tough for me to work with!

    3. Sustainability: Okay, I’m good with this one. As long as I can afford it, I’ll go sustainable.

    2. Curves: Sorry, but lines > curves in my aesthetic. I can’t abide curved arches (unless they’re in a Gothic sort of style); I’m not the “hacienda” type. And the amorphous sofa? That’s just so hard to design around unless you have gigantic rooms.

    1. The ‘70s: I’d much prefer the 1950s, 1960s … even the early 1990s!

This is all so disappointing, but I think you’re right on the money with how design seems to be heading. Thanks for a great video! 💜
